Chapter 1

I woke up early. The soft rays of the sun filtered through the curtains, casting a gentle glow over my room. Today was the day. The day I had been waiting for my entire life. My hands trembled slightly as I adjusted my ceremonial dress in the mirror. The silver accents glittered against the dark fabric. My reflection stared back at me, calm yet filled with anticipation. I was ready to take my place as the Luna of the Silver Moon pack, to step into my father’s shoes as leader.

A soft knock at the door pulled me from my thoughts.

"Amarra," my father’s voice came through the crack. When I finally opened the door, I saw his smile, full of pride, though his frailty was evident in the way he leaned heavily on his cane. “You look beautiful,” he said, stepping into the room. “Your mother would have been proud.”

I swallowed as my throat tightened with emotion. “I wish she were here.”

“So do I,” he whispered. We stood in silence for a moment. This was more than a transfer of power. It was the culmination of years of training and preparation, the fulfillment of my birthright. My father, though he had led our pack for decades, had been waiting for this day with both pride and sorrow. His sickness had weakened him over the past year, but today, his eyes were filled with hope.

“It’s time,” he finally said.

The ceremony began with the usual formalities. The pack gathered outside, surrounding the grand stone dais where I would take the oath and step into my role as their new Luna. Wolves from neighboring packs had come to witness the momentous occasion. And their presence filled the air with an electric sense of anticipation. My father’s voice echoed with pride as he spoke to the pack, praising my readiness, our bond, and the future we would build together.

I allowed myself to believe that everything would go as planned.

Then, I heard it. A sharp voice cutting through the ceremony like a blade.

“Enough of this farce!”

My father stopped mid-speech. I turned slowly, already knowing who it was before I saw him. Beta Lars stepped forward. His dark eyes were burning with defiance. His mere presence sent a chill down my spine.

“This ceremony is a disgrace,” Lars spat, stepping onto the dais, ignoring the gasps of shock from the crowd. “Amarra is not fit to lead us.”

My father’s voice was sharp as steel. “Lars, stand down. This is not the time—”

“It’s exactly the time,” Lars interrupted, sneering. “This pack needs a leader who understands strength, not the weakness you’ve raised in her.”

I stepped forward. Fury was slowly burning in my chest. “I have earned my place here. You dishonor this pack with your words.”

Lars snarled. “You were given this place, not because you deserve it, but because of your bloodline. You are not fit to lead. And I will not let this pack fall into ruin under your hands.”

Before I could respond, before my father could step between us, the chaos erupted. Lars’ men, wolves I had known my entire life, surged forward. Their loyalty was already lost to the madness he had sown. Teeth bared, they attacked.

I didn’t have time to process it, to comprehend the sudden betrayal, because the next thing I knew, I was surrounded. The battle was swift and brutal. The sound of claws raking through flesh. The sharp cries of wolves clashing. Everything became a blur of violence. I tried to defend myself, but there were too many. My wolf, trapped inside, screamed to be set free. But my body was too weak. My head was spinning as I struggled to stay upright.

Suddenly, a searing pain shot through my side. I gasped, clutching my abdomen. Then I saw blood spilling between my fingers. I fell to my knees. The world tilted as I watched the scene in front of me unravel. Lars’ men had reached my father. And though he fought with all the strength he had left, he was overpowered.

“Father…” I almost whispered as I tried to move toward him, but my legs refused to cooperate.

My father turned toward me. His eyes locked with mine for a brief, agonizing moment. His face was pale, smeared with blood, but his expression was filled with a fierce determination.

“Run, Amarra!” His voice cut through the chaos. But it was weak. “Go! Now!”
