Chapter 4

I was extremely alert and said to Emily calmly, "I am just too sad."

Emily smiled sweetly, but her smile looked somewhat familiar to me.

I looked up at table beside our bed, where there was a solo photo of Emily taken when she was four years old.

She was in a yellow dress, smiling brightly and innocently among a field of brilliant sunflowers. At that time, I liked Emily's smile in this photo so much that I applied this photo as my profile photo on WhatsApp, and then I printed it out and placed it on the bedside table.

I felt a little creepy because Emily's current smile was exactly the same as the one in this photo.

Emily had already turned around and walked out. I was completely confused. I subconsciously picked up my phone and wanted to look through the photos I had taken of Emily.

I liked to record. Since Emily was born, I had taken pictures of her every day. My phone was full of photos of Emily.

My hands were shaking my hands when I discovered that Emily hadn't grown taller from last year.

Before she was five years old, Emily was closer to me, so I was the one who took care of everything including buying clothes for her and measuring her height.

But after she was five years old, Emily resisted being with me but liked Bell more. She let Bell to buy her clothes and pick her up from school.

Emily would even avoid my touch. This past year, Emily had been finding fault with me every day and making things difficult for me in various ways. I was exhausted just dealing with her messy requests.

Only then did I discover something that I had ignored for a long time.

Was it possible for young children who were in the growth period and did not grow taller for a whole year?

When I thought carefully about the changes that happened to Emily, I realized that they started on Children's Day last year.

That day, Bell was rarely kind towards Emily. I had dressed Emily up beautifully in a blue dress and wanted to take her to the amusement park.

But Bell forcefully took Emily away, saying that his colleague had given him two tickets to the aquarium and he wanted to take Emily to there.

Even though I said I would buy a ticket and go with them, Bell frowned impatiently and said, "Have you made a penny? How dare you spend my money? A ticket costs four hundred and fifty dollars. Just stay at home. Emily is my biological daughter, I can't do anything bad to her."

I thought it might be because I had never left Emily for a single day since she was born, so I was too anxious about leaving her.

I thought it would be good to let Emily spend more time with Bell.

So I sat anxiously in the living room for the whole afternoon. In the evening, Emily hugged Bell's neck, and they looked very intimate.

I finally felt relieved.

I had an inexplicable intuition that my child had been switched.

The person who came back that day was not my biological daughter Emily, who loved staying with me, but a stranger.

At that moment, there was news on my mobile phone. In the past, I would not have been bothered to check it.

But when I saw the title, I checked the article for some reason.

"Ten major differences in physical performance between children and adults! You must know these little-known facts!"

I took out the clothes that were packed in the suitcase one by one.

I became rational and clam and looked completely different from the weak and humble housewife.

I knew I couldn't go on like this.

Because of my negligence, Emily had been suffering somewhere in the world.

I couldn't have any flaws, so I put on a normal and gentle smile and went out to cook and do the housework.

Bell and Emily looked at me and smiled with satisfaction.

I smiled too. Before going to bed, I said flatteringly, "Emily, can I give you a bath?"

Emily looked at me and then at Bell.

Maybe they were scared because I was too determined when I proposed divorce just now.

Bell nodded, and Emily obediently followed me into the bathroom.

I patiently washed Emily's hair, face. Everything was normal. Even the mole on her back was exactly the same.

Maybe it was because mother and daughter were connected by heart, when I looked at the girl in front of me, I didn't feel close to her.

Even if there was nothing unusual, I could tell that she was not my daughter.
