Chapter 4

Since I was home, Violet couldn't be here anymore.

Lane seemed quite unhappy.

The next day, she bossed me around and went to dance with the old man.

Well, when she wasn't around, I destroyed all her valuable clothes and smashed her dining utensils into pieces.

When Lane came back, she said she wanted to invite the old man to have a meal at home. But when she saw the messy living room and the clothes that had been destroyed into fragments, she became furious and almost fainted.

I took a photo when the man helped her into the bedroom and sent it to Maxwell.

"Why don't we hire a maid? Lane's been taking care of me and doesn't have time for a date. Her dance partner wants to see her so badly that he's here. See?"

Maxwell came back quite early that night.

As soon as he entered the door, he had a quarrel with Lane.

Maxwell's father passed away early, and they had a deep bond.

Although he was very obedient to Lane, it seemed that he couldn't accept her finding him a new father.

"Drop it!" he shouted.

"I've been a widow all my life!" she shouted, too.

"That's what decent women do!"

I leaned against the head of the bed and heard them very clearly.

I raised my hand and drank up the milk.

That's what decent women do?

This time, I sided with Lane. But I still preferred to listen to Maxwell and Lane quarrel.

Neither of them was a good person, and it was quite exciting to listen to their quarrel.

I didn't get to hear what the rest of the quarrel was about, because the sound of many things being smashed in the house kept ringing out.

Those included Lane's favorite tableware and the phone she used to contact that old man.

It was enough to make her feel bitter for a while.

After Maxwell went to work, Lane couldn't hold it anymore and started cursing at me while pointing at me.

I heard words like "bitch" and "whore".

This time, I wouldn't go soft.

I walked up to Lane with my baby in my arms and threw the diaper I had just changed which was already used at her face.

Lane retched, pinched her nose, and pointed at me again.

I said, "Good for you, Lane. You're already so old, yet you're still so slutty. You brought that man here? In my house? Do you have a mirror? Look at yourself!

"If you wanna see him, see him outside! Don't do it here! You disgust me!"

Lane snorted a few times but couldn't utter a word.

Then she went to the kitchen and started smashing things.

I put the baby in the stroller, walked up to Lane, picked up everything that was made of iron, and threw all of them onto the floor.

She wanna compete with me in making sounds? Fine.

Lane glared at me and didn't dare to say anything.

She was such a bully who feared the strong.

But I wasn't a pushover.

While Lane went out to complain to that old man, I asked a friend to find a divorce lawyer for me, and then I redeemed all my fund investments in my father's name and bought a house in the suburbs.

I planned to sell the marital house under my name and had already negotiated the price.

When we got married, Maxwell bought a car, and I already had a house under my name, so he didn't need to buy a house.

I preferred simplicity when it came to marriage.

I thought things such as dowry weren't necessary.

Now I realized that I was wrong. It was a way to make others value me. Since I didn't want anything, they took me for granted and even might think I was cheap.

Lane felt so more than anyone else.

She even went around saying that Maxwell was so capable. He married a rich and capable wife without spending much money.

I wouldn't indulge her this time.

I pretended that I knew nothing. I fought with her and treated Maxwell with respect every day.

Maybe because I was so good at acting, Maxwell had let his guard down and even brazenly brought Violet home to eat with us.

Violet occasionally touched her belly and acted cute in front of me.

I still pretended that I knew nothing.

In fact, I had already imagined countless times the scene where I stuffed their heads into the toilet and rubbed them.

So, when I threw the divorce agreement in Maxwell's face and handed him over to the prosecutor, the expression on his face was incredibly wonderful.
