The Rebirth of the Tragic Housewife
Chapter 2
"How could you talk to me like this? I'm your elder! Where are your manners? Show some respect!"
"You don't deserve my respect!"
I continued to retort without giving in.
Maxwell came over and held my hand. "Thea, don't talk back. It's been hard for my mom."
"And it's been easy for me?" I broke free from his hand. "You better shut up, or I'll divorce you when I go back!"
Looking at Maxwell wiping his sweat, I gritted my teeth and said fiercely, "You won't get anything, including the baby, the house, and the money!"
Maxwell and Lane both fell silent.
Only then did I feel better. I rested for a while and told Maxwell that I wanted to book a confinement center, asking him to handle it as soon as possible.
Maxwell frowned and said, "Then... The carer my mom hired..."
"Ask Lane if she has dismissed her."
Maxwell was surprised. The expression on his face seemed to ask me how did I know.
Of course, I knew. In my previous life, Lane said that since I had given birth to a baby girl, a carer wouldn't be necessary, so she dismissed the carer and incited Maxwell to cancel his paternity leave, leaving me, a blind person, to take care of the newborn baby.
Later, Maxwell brought his lover home and had sex, and she even helped to cover it up.
I had the urge to kill her!
I said, "If I go to the confinement center, it'll save you and Lane a lot of trouble. You can go back to work, and she can do whatever she wants. The baby will be in good hands. It's good for everyone. Why are you hesitating?"
If he hesitated any longer, he wouldn't be able to book it.
Maxwell thought for a moment, nodded, and said he was on it.
I knew what he was thinking.
If I stayed in the confinement center, he could openly have an affair with his lover at my house.
That was what he wanted the most.
The next day, Maxwell told me it was settled. I just needed to wait a few more days to be discharged, and someone would come to pick me up and take me there with the baby.
I smiled and pinched Maxwell's face, "I know I can count on you."
Lane sat on the side, glaring at me as if I owed her something.
The cost would be several thousand dollars, and Maxwell could afford it.
He had money to keep a mistress but no money to arrange a confinement center for his wife?
What a joke.
When I met Maxwell, he was my client.
He was a public official, and a piece of land that the real estate company I worked for needed to acquire fell under his jurisdiction. That was how I met him.
He wasn't in a high position, but he had power alright.
I was the team leader of the project team. To make him say yes, I first invited him to dinner and drinks and then sent him some valuable gifts, but he returned them all.
I was impressed and felt something for him, but not much.
After the bidding was successful, Maxwell suddenly started to pursue me passionately.
I was a little surprised and at a loss.
The first time I went to his college class reunion with him, at the dinner table, one of his friends had a slip of the tongue.
"You look exactly like her."
After going back, I asked him non-stop who the person had referred to.
He remained silent.
At the wedding, a woman in a white dress sat in the guest seat.
I saw the unwillingness in her eyes.
I also saw the deep sadness in Maxwell's eyes.
Her face and eyes were somewhat similar to mine.
It was her.
Fortunately, after marrying Maxwell, he treated me very well, being extremely tolerant and taking care of every detail, which made me quickly forget about this.
Who hadn't experienced youth?
I had, too.
Living the future life well was the most important thing, wasn't it?
I didn't expect that after I gave birth, Maxwell would bring another woman into our lives.
I couldn't tell if she was that woman. After all, I was blind.
My gut told me she was.
After I was discharged from the hospital, I sent a message to my bestie.
I asked her to use the excuse of grabbing something to go to my house and secretly install a few pinhole cameras there.
Maxwell, I'll see who your mistress is.
