The One Who Loves More Always Cries First

When my close friend Oliver Baker called me in distress late at night, I chose to ignore my boyfriend's furious protests and rushed to a local bar to rescue him. After spending the night caring for a heavily intoxicated Oliver, I woke up the following afternoon and tried to call my partner. My ignored rings went unanswered. Upon returning home expecting a typical argument, I was met with complete silence and a deserted apartment. I had no idea that my midnight rescue mission was the absolute breaking point for our relationship.

Chapter 4

The whole afternoon, Theo ignored me, as if he hadn't seen my Instagram.

I started to feel uneasy in my heart. In the evening, I called Theo. "Theo, let's have dinner together after work."

"No, I have to work overtime at the company today." Theo said in a flat tone.

I was about to blurt out and question him. In the past, no matter how important things were, he would always cancel them to accompany me!

But today, I forcibly swallowed this sentence and quickly said, "Then I'll wait for you after work to pick you up."

After a moment of silence on the other end of the phone, Theo reluctantly agreed.

I breathed a sigh of relief when I heard Theo agree, and I was even somewhat glad in my heart.

"Irvin, it's my birthday tonight. My parents gave me some money, and I invite you to have fun! I'll send you the location later."

Oliver hung up the phone without waiting for me to speak.

I thought for a moment and didn't call back.

I may have neglected Theo recently. Thinking about his coldness towards me, I felt a bit scared. I'm afraid he really doesn't want me anymore.

I decided to meet Oliver tonight and consider it as putting an end to this period of time we spent together.

Oliver invited many classmates to come and booked a large private room.

Under the compliments of a group of male college students, and considering Theo's coldness towards me recently, I drank a whole bottle of red wine by myself.

When we were about to leave the restaurant for the second venue, I was blown by the cold wind outside and suddenly remembered the arrangement with Theo.

I checked my phone and it was already 8:15 in the evening.

It's okay...

Not too late.

I immediately called Theo, and he answered quickly.

"Theo, I'm on my way, there's a bit of traffic, please wait for me."

Theo calmly said on the other end of the phone. "Okay, take your time."

I immediately hailed a taxi and got in. Oliver, who was talking with classmates, also got in with me, smiling and asking. "Irvin, why are we still going to the same place?"

"What same place? I have something to do today, I'm going home. You guys go have fun." I said with a frown.

Oliver's face turned dark, but quickly recovered and said, "Then let me take you home, it's not safe this late."

In the end, I didn't persuade Oliver. The taxi quickly arrived at Theo's company downstairs.

I was a little nervous, after all, this was Theo's first time meeting Oliver. I was afraid that he would misunderstand.

Theo calmly opened the car door and glanced at the back seat. Without saying a word, he sat in the passenger seat.

"Is this Theo? He's really talented. Irvin, you're so lucky." Oliver couldn't sense the atmosphere in the car and said with a smile.

"Well, if you have something to do, go ahead and play. I'll just take a taxi home by myself," Theo said without looking back as he was about to unfasten his seatbelt.

I immediately said, "No, I had a few drinks and Oliver sent me home because he was worried."

"That's right, Theo. You're so busy that you don't have time to accompany Irvin. As his younger brother, it's natural for me to take responsibility," Oliver said affectionately, putting his arm around my shoulder.

"Thank you then," Theo said, staring at his phone without even looking at us.

Then he put on his headphones and started discussing work with his colleagues.

This made both Oliver and me feel a little embarrassed.

I subconsciously felt dissatisfied. What did Theo mean by intentionally embarrassing me?

I had a straight face and no longer spoke.

When I got home, Theo went straight to the bedroom.

Looking at the closed bedroom door, my face changed for a while, and in the end, I stomped my foot and angrily went back to the small bedroom.
