The Moonlight Fades, Love Never Comes Back
Chapter 2
I raised my head and took a big sip of wine and spoke while enduring the spicy feeling in my throat.
"Sir, I am willing to develop there!"
"Great, this is a rare opportunity for you! You must seize it!" The leader smiled and patted my shoulder, his tone full of relief.
"Pack up and leave in three days!"
I endured the bitterness in my heart and nodded. My chest was stuffy and I wanted to go to the bathroom to wash my face. As soon as I went out, my wrist was grabbed.
"Jeremy, what time is it now? Why aren't you home yet? I sent you a message but you didn't reply. What on earth do you want to do?"
Looking up, it was Emily who was full of anger. I shook her hand off, distanced myself from her and suppressed the emotions in my eyes.
"Our department is having a party, can't I come and play occasionally?"
I had been married to Emily for five years. Since Louis came back, she had been coming home later and later at night.
I sent her messages anxiously, but she always read them but didn't reply. She also accused me of being too strict with her and making her feel suffocated. But I was just worried that she was not safe outside alone late at night.
"Do you know that today is our wedding anniversary? It's fine if you left the restaurant by yourself! Now you are angry with me and don't even go home, really?"
Emily's beautiful eyes were glaring at me at this moment and continuous accusations fell on me. A bitter feeling spread in my heart.
It turned out that she also knew that today was our wedding anniversary. I carefully prepared a gift and booked a restaurant. But she insisted on spending the night with Louis and a bunch of friends, without considering my feelings at all.
"I don’t care. You come back with me now!" Emily's voice was unyieldingly tough and she pulled my arm out of the KTV.
She helped me get in the car and the alcohol was pouring down my spine, making my head dizzy. The smell of her perfume was in my nose. I sat in the back seat, sent a message to my colleagues to explain the situation and then closed my eyes to rest.
Neither Emily nor I spoke again. In the quiet car, Emily's phone suddenly rang. She picked it up and her tone gradually became anxious.
"Louis, it's me, what's wrong?... What? Stomachache?... OK, I'll be there right away, wait for me!" Emily hung up the phone and stopped the car.
"Take a taxi back by yourself, Louis is not feeling well, it seems to be gastroenteritis, I have to go see him."
I looked at the time, it was almost 1 o'clock and it was difficult to get a taxi.
"Hurry up and get off! I don't have time to mess with you now, don't be so ignorant!"
I pressed my temple hard, picked up my coat and got out of the car without saying a word.
Emily's car quickly turned around and sped away. Without stopping for a moment.
It was cold at night and I shuddered. I couldn't get a taxi for a long time, so I sighed and chose to walk back.
Emily, she left me behind again.
When I got home, I was exhausted and fell asleep on the bed.
I was woken up by Emily the next morning.
"Jeremy, you didn't prepare breakfast for me today?"
Emily was still wearing the same clothes as yesterday and her clear eyes were full of dissatisfaction at the moment.
I thought of what happened last night, my face couldn't help but sink and I spoke lightly. "I was too tired yesterday and didn't get up in the morning. Go out and buy something to eat."
