Chapter 2

When I arrived at the Fuzio family training base with the divorce papers in hand, the training did not end yet.

The guards at the gate saluted me respectfully.

The housekeepers in the estate murmured among themselves enviously.

"Did you see? The blue sapphire necklace on Donna Fuzio's neck costs 100 million."

"Our Don even bought a cruise ship to celebrate their wedding anniversary, naming it after her."

"When can I find a man as devoted as the Don?"

I smirked in mockery. If they only knew that the devoted man they mentioned would have an illegitimate child with another woman. Would their envious gazes turn into pity?

The Fuzio family had a rule. No one was to disturb Christian as he trained in live combat shooting.

No one except me.

But this time, I didn't get his men to inform him of my arrival.

I sat in the surveillance room, watching the live feed of the training.

Christian was crouched on the ground, dressed in a black tactical uniform, simulating a gunfight exercise.

Two hours. I waited for two hours.

Looking at his back, countless memories resurfaced.

Back when we first got together, he did not become the Don of the Fuzio family yet. The daily successor training left him utterly exhausted.

Yet after every training session, he would line up bullet casings on the ground to spell out [I love you.]

Back then, he would make me breakfast every morning. Eggs, bacon, and toasts, all neatly laid out and placed by the side of the bed.

Once, when he was away on a business trip, I fell ill with pneumonia and a fever.

In a daze, I called him.

When I woke up the next day, I saw his eyes beside me, red from crying.

Later, I heard that he abandoned a cooperation deal worth tens of billions just to come back for me.

All those memories filled with love. I never forgot them.

Until the moment I died, I believed that only someone who truly loved another person could do something like that.

Maybe he loved me once. The kind of love where he felt he couldn't live without me.

But then, later, he fell in love with someone else.

The doors to the combat room opened. Someone walked out, saw me, and froze for a moment before turning back to knock on the glass.

Christian turned around, nodded to his colleague, and picked up the internal phone.

My mobile phone rang.

"Rae." He said in an extremely tender voice, "Why are you here? You must be getting impatient. Let me get changed then I'll take you to that restaurant that you love!"

I opened my mouth, but before I could speak, hurried footsteps came from the corridor.

"Don Fuzio!" His assistant ran in out of breath, saying, "Don Fuzio, Zoe was attacked when she was escorting the cargo! She's been sent to the hospital!"

I saw Christian's expressions change. At that instant, any composure or coolness crumbled.

He turned around, tore off the bulletproof vest he was wearing, and threw it to the ground. Then he rushed to the door.

When he opened the door, I stood up and tugged on his sleeves. I handed him the divorce papers and said, "Sign them."

He swept it a gaze, never even looking at it closely, and signed on it directly.

Then, he shoved the papers back to me.

"I'm sorry, Rae." He ran away while saying, "Wait for me at the restaurant."

I stood at the same spot, watching him vanish from my sight. My heart tightened in pain.

I followed him.

The smell of disinfectant in the hospital corridors was pungent. I stood outside a patient's ward.

Through the half open door, I saw Zoe lying in bed. Her injuries were not serious. There was just a scratch on her face.

"How did you get hurt? Is it serious? Doctor! You must use the best medicine possible! She cares a lot about her beauty. There cannot be scars."

The doctor said enviously, "Of course. You must be Ms. Sgrotti's fiancé? How sweet are the both of you! By the way, Ms. Sgrotti, you're pregnant. You shouldn't be intimate in bed in the first three months."
