Chapter 2

At that moment, my in-laws hadn't yet gone on their trip, so when I arrived at the hospital, they were already there taking care of Darien.

Of course, some other relatives from the Rangel family were there as well.

My mother-in-law Marely Olsen was furious because I was late, and she had been yelling in the room for a while until she saw me.

"You shameless woman, why are you just getting here? Your man's in trouble, and you're not rushing over to take care of him! Did you go off to meet some lover instead?!"

Marely scolded angrily.

"Exactly! How can you act like that as a wife? Your husband's had such a big accident, and you show up late. And now you're not even helping him with the bedpan? Hiring a nurse is too expensive, so hurry up and take care of your husband!"

Bailey Bailey Rangel and the other relatives also spoke viciously.

Looking at them, I only felt disgusted. How foolish I must have been in my past life to take care of these people's families for seven years out of the goodness of my heart.

But to deal with the situation, I replied in a calm voice.

"Lately, I've been busy with work. Besides, hiring a nurse isn't that expensive, and I don't have the time to be here all the time to take care of him."

Marely got even angrier when she heard this and questioned me sharply, "You're busy with work? Why don't you quit? Hiring a nurse costs at least eight thousand dollars a month, and that's all coming from Darien's money. What's the big deal to take care of your husband? If something happens to him, do you know you'll end up as a widow, unwanted for the rest of your life, you useless woman?"

I smiled. It was because of this very statement from Marely that I quit my job in my past life to care for Darien wholeheartedly. But seven years later, she flatly denied it, claiming I quit my job because I was seeing other men.

No matter what, I wouldn't make the same mistake again.

"Marely, I don't mean to be harsh, but over these years, my salary has been over twenty thousand dollars, while Darien's is only about four thousand dollars, not even enough for his expenses. As for the savings at home, I've been the one earning. So basically, I've been spending my own money. What's more, maybe Darien will receive compensation for the accident. Why don't we use that to hire a nurse to take care of him? What do you think?"

At the mention of compensation, Marely and the others' eyes lit up.

Because of Darien's car accident, the driver who caused it paid a considerable amount of compensation, but all of it went into Marely's pocket.

I didn't press her for it, understanding that it wasn't easy for an elderly person.

However, I didn't expect that she transferred half of it secretly to the mistress and her child. In my previous life, they used that money against me, forcing me to leave with nothing.

Later, when the mistress came back with her child, they welcomed her warmly.

While I, who had worked myself to the bone, was driven out and eventually killed.
