Chapter 2

(Bianca's POV)

I always knew Adrian Sterling didn’t love me. Not the way a man should love the woman he vowed to cherish. His words were polished, his actions measured—but his eyes, cold and detached, told the truth. I was nothing more than an accessory, a carefully chosen piece of his pristine world.

I wasn’t enough. Maybe I was too simple, too gullible, or too naive to belong in his cutthroat billionaire universe. But none of that was the real reason for his distance.

Her name was Ivy.

Ivy wasn’t just a ghost from Adrian’s past. She was a storm that had carved a permanent scar across his heart. The scandal around her family’s empire crumbling years ago should have buried her, but somehow, she resurfaced, stronger, more alluring, and hungrier for what she believed was hers.

And Adrian never stopped chasing her.

Even after she disappeared, leaving behind whispers of fraud and betrayal, he waited. When she returned—fragile but magnetic—he didn’t hesitate. Every time she needed him, Adrian was gone. Board meetings, charity galas, even our supposed date nights—nothing mattered when Ivy called.

At first, I tried to understand. I told myself he was helping an old friend. But as the months dragged on, her name seeped into every crack of our life, growing like an unwanted weed. Adrian’s gaze would glaze over during our conversations, his mind always elsewhere. When we were together, I was alone.

Tonight, I needed the truth.

The city buzzed with life under its bright lights. People filled the streets, laughing as they came out of bars and restaurants. But the noise felt far away. My heart was louder, beating hard in my chest as I stood under the string lights in the square.

Adrian’s sleek black car pulled up to the curb. The driver stepped out, opening the door for him. He emerged like a storm—sharp, composed, untouchable. His suit was flawless, his tie neatly knotted. Yet there was an edge to him tonight, a tension I hadn’t seen before.

“Bianca.” He said my name like it was a chore. No warmth. Just an obligation.

“Ivy called, didn’t she?” My voice cut through the air, trembling yet resolute.

His expression faltered, only slightly, before his brows furrowed. “Is this why you dragged me out here? To talk about Ivy?”

I laughed bitterly. “Dragged you out here? God forbid I take ten minutes of your precious time before you run off to save her again.”

He stepped closer, his jaw tight. “Bianca, I don’t have time for this.”

“That’s exactly it, Adrian!” I snapped, my voice rising. “You never have time for me. I’m just the placeholder while you wait for her to come crawling back.”

Adrian exhaled sharply, his usual composure cracking. “This is ridiculous.”

“No, it’s not. I see it now, Adrian. I’m not blind. Every time she calls, you drop everything. Every time she needs you, you forget I exist.” I took a step toward him, my hands trembling at my sides.

“Tell me the truth. Do you even love me? Or am I just someone convenient to have around?”

“ I am not even the only one you abandoned, you got a lot of backstory…. you this cold blooded creature” I muttered, remembering how he dumped me the other time.

Image of the silhouette woman came in focus in my head and I wanted to confront Adrian but at the last minute I swallowed the lump in my throat. Cursing myself at the idea of breaking down in his front.

His blue eyes flashed with anger, but he didn’t deny it. He didn’t say anything at all.

“That’s what I thought,” I said bitterly. “You can’t even answer. She owns you, Adrian. She always has.”

“Enough,” he snapped, his voice cold and sharp. “You don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Don’t I?” I whispered, my tone laced with defiance. “I’ve spent years trying to make this work, waiting for you to see me. But I’m done waiting, Adrian. You have to choose. Right now. Is it me or her?”

The silence between us was suffocating. Adrian’s expression hardened, his usual mask of control slipping back into place.

“Ivy’s not the problem,” he finally said, his tone measured but cutting. “You are.”

The words hit me like a slap. And that woman too, the one that said this was how Adrian is - use and dump for his selfish gain. Was this how she felt?

I removed my gaze from him…I was the stupid one for not having self respect in all of these years, lying to myself that he was going to see that I loved him.

“You’ve always known how this works, Bianca. You knew what you were signing up for when you agreed to be with me. My life is complicated—there are things you’ll never understand.”

“Stop.” My voice broke. “Stop treating me like a business deal. I’m a person, Adrian. I have feelings. You can’t keep brushing me aside like I don’t matter.”

His phone buzzed, and right away, he looked at it. He picked it up, read the screen, and his jaw clenched.

“It’s her, isn’t it?” I asked, my voice trembling with rage.

He didn’t answer, but his silence was enough.

“You’re unbelievable,” I said, laughing bitterly. “She snaps her fingers, and you come running. What is it this time? Another ‘emergency’? Another excuse to abandon me?”

“I have to go,” he said, slipping the phone back into his pocket. “This isn’t easy for me either, Bianca.”

“ Yes, I know but leaving me the other night was? Abandoning me in the cold, with a target behind me is the easy way!”

“Bianca” He called.

“No,” I said, stepping in his path. “You don’t get to walk away this time. You’re going to stand here and tell me the truth. Do you love her?”

His silence stretched on, heavy and damning.

“Say it!” I demanded, my voice echoing in the night.

“She’s... complicated,” he finally admitted, his voice low. “But yes. I love her.”

The admission tore through me like a blade. I staggered back, the world spinning.

“That’s it, then,” I said softly, my voice barely audible. “You’ve made your choice.”

But as I turned to leave, a sleek black car pulled up, its tinted windows reflecting the city lights.

The door opened, and Ivy stepped out.

She was stunning in a way that felt almost otherworldly. Her long, dark hair flowed like silk, her designer dress clinging to her perfect frame. But it wasn’t her beauty that struck me—it was the way Adrian looked at her. His entire demeanor changed. The cold, detached man I had just confronted melted before my eyes.

“Adrian,” Ivy said, her voice soft and trembling. She looked at me briefly, her gaze sharp and assessing, before focusing entirely on him.

“Ivy.” His voice was gentle, almost reverent.

That was all I needed to hear.

I didn’t wait for him to speak again. I turned and walked away, my heels clicking against the pavement, each step feeling heavier than the last. I didn’t look back.

Let him have her. Let them destroy each other.

For the first time in years, I felt free.

But deep down, I knew this wasn’t the end. Not with Adrian Sterling. Not with Ivy. The storm they had created would consume everything in its path, and I wasn’t sure I could outrun it.
