Chapter 2

Emma

“Fuck!”

The word came out of my mouth before I could stop it, cutting through the silence. My heart jumped as the hotel door slammed open as if someone had kicked it.

“What the hell are you doing in here? Are you out of your damn mind? Can’t you knock or ask for permission before barging into someone’s privacy?”

My voice was loud and sharp enough to slice through a glass. I froze on the bed, naked, the sheets twisted around my legs, my hand still gripping the pink dildo that had just been making me see stars the moment I shoved it stupidly inside my pussy and began to moan.

How come the door wasn't closed?

The man who stood in the doorway didn’t look sorry. He didn't act like something was wrong.

He was tall, dressed in a black suit that screamed wealth and power. His hair was dark and perfectly styled, his gray eyes cool, sharp and he is charming.

The kind of eyes that could tell he has passed through a lot and didn't care too much. His lips curved slightly, like he was trying not to laugh.

For a second, he just stared, staring at me without shifting his eyes. He didn’t blink. Didn’t turn away. Just… stared.

My skin burned under his gaze.

“Excuse me?” I snapped, dragging the sheets to my chest to cover by breast. “You better start explaining yourself before I throw something at you.”

He tilted his head, still standing by the door like he owned the place. “What the hell are you doing in my room?”

I blinked. “What did you just say?”

He raised an eyebrow. “You heard me well. This is my room. What are you doing in my room?”

“Are you insane?” I barked, tightening the sheet around me. “This is Room 45 for crying out loud. I checked in less than an hour ago! Do I look like a squatter to you?”

He gave a short, dry laugh and clapped his hands once, mockingly. “You must be out of your mind. I paid for this room three hours ago. How did you manage to get in here……” his eyes flicked over me again and the dildo I was holding, slow and deliberate “...doing……. masturbating on my bed?”

I could feel heat all over my body.

“You think this is funny?” I hissed. “You interrupted my orgasm, ruined my night, and then acting like it’s some kind of joke?”

He shrugged, his arrogant smirk deepening. “Well, I’ll admit, I like what I see. But don't tell me you're using a dildo when I can be of help. If you wanted company that bad, you could’ve just called reception. My services are top tier.”

My mouth fell open, something in me lunged for his charming look. And for a moment I felt like he should close the distance between us.

“You’re disgusting.”

He chuckled. “Come on, sweetheart. Drop the sheet. I could help you finish what you started. My dick’s big enough to make you forget whatever battery-operated trash you were using.”

I gasped. “Fuck you, you arrogant bastard! You think this is funny? Wait until I get you arrested for trespassing and attempted rape!”

His smirk vanished for a moment, but then he folded his arms. “Trespassing? Lady, you’re the one who broke into my room.”

“Your room?” I repeated, my voice rising. “Do I look like someone who breaks into hotel rooms for fun?”

“You look like someone who’s had a rough day,” he said casually. “Maybe life’s been kicking you around a bit.”

That did it.

I clenched my jaw so tight it hurt. Every nerve in my body screamed to slap him, but I forced myself to stay back. Not again. I've had enough of it today.

I yanked the bedsheet tighter around me, picked my oddings and wore it. I wore my clothes. His eyes lingered on me as I dressed and walked toward the door. “Get out of my way before I make you regret it.”

He didn’t move at first, like he wanted to see if I’d actually do it. Then, with a mocking bow, he stepped aside. “Don’t be too rude, sweetheart.”

I pushed past him close enough for our shoulders to collide and stomped down the hallway barefoot, my feet slapping against the marble floor.

“Unbelievable!” I hissed under my breath as I hurried toward the reception desk. My pulse was racing, sweat prickling down my spine. I nearly tripped on the staircase before catching myself on the railing.

Behind me, I could hear his footsteps behind me. Slow, steady, completely unbothered. He followed after me.

The receptionist, a slim woman in her early thirties, looked up with shock from her computer as I slammed my hand on the desk. Her face paled when she saw the anger burning in my eyes.

“What the hell is going on here?” I snapped. “Do you people just hand out keys to random strangers these days to bang into someone's privacy?”

“Ma’am, please calm down,” she stammered with a low voice. “Can you tell me what the problem is?”

“The problem?” I shouted. “The problem is that this animal just barged into my room while I was inside! He’s claiming he booked it first!”

Behind me, he caught me off before I could say another word. “Can you maybe stop shouting for a second?” he said with a cruel smile. “You’re making a scene.”

I whirled on him. “Oh, I’ll make more than a scene if you don’t shut up!”

The receptionist became more confused, her fingers shaking as she was about to type on the computer. “What is the room number, please?”

“Forty-five!” I snapped.

She typed quickly, the sound of the keyboard clacking against the tense silence. Her brow furrowed, eyes darting across the screen.

After a moment, she frowned and turned to the man beside me. “Sorry, sir, can I have your name?”

“Alexander,” he replied smoothly, sliding one hand into his pocket like he was posing for a magazine.

The receptionist froze. Her eyes widened slightly, then she leaned toward her colleague and whispered something. The other woman began typing rapidly too. They started murmuring.

“What’s going on here?” I demanded.

The receptionist looked up, clearly nervous now. “Um, ma’am…. it seems there’s been a mix-up.”

“What do you mean, a mix-up?” I asked, crossing my arms.

She hesitated. “Room 45 was…accidentally checked in twice. Mr. Alexander here was the first guest on record. There was an error in the system. We’re deeply sorry for the inconvenience…”

“Sorry?” I cut her off sharply. “You think ‘sorry’ fixes this? Do you have any idea what just happened? You better pray you still have a job by the end of tonight!”

Her lips started shaking. “Ma’am, please, just give me a few minutes. I’ll call the manager and we will…”

“Don’t bother!” I snapped. “You can call whoever you want, but I assure you, you’ll be fired before the next hour, and I'm dead sorry!”

Alexander chuckled softly beside me, the sound low and infuriating. “You’re really something, aren’t you?” he said under his breath.

I shot him a glare sharp enough to kill. “Say another word, and I’ll show you exactly what I am.”

He smirked. “Oh, I’d love to find out.”

“Asshole.”

“Drama queen.”

The receptionist looked between us, her eyes darting nervously. “Please, sir and ma’am, let me handle this...”

But neither of us was listening anymore.

The air between me and Alexander crackled with irritation and something else I didn’t care to know.

Because right then, all I wanted was for the ground to open up and swallow him whole.

Or maybe me.

Anything to escape the humiliation burning through my veins.
