Chapter 1

My name was Rhea Cooke. One day, I had a hypertension attack, but there was no antihypertensive aerosol left at home.

I called Marvin Austin, my husband, who was going home, and asked him to bring me a box of medicine.

When I was gasping for breath and about to faint, he was still nowhere to be seen.

I wanted to call him again but accidentally came across a recommended video.

In the midst of the fireworks, he and Madge Moore embraced each other on the mountaintop, kissing each other passionately.

Their friends around them cheered and threw rose petals at them.

Madge shyly leaned on Marvin's chest, and they looked like a blessed couple.

I endured my throbbing headache and ordered aerosol online.

After the physical symptoms eased, I sat numb until midnight.

I didn't come to my senses until I saw Madge's Instagram post.

In the photo, she was lying in Marvin's arms on the big bed in the hotel, with rosy cheeks and deep affection in her eyes.

She posted, [I haven't seen you for ten years, yet you're still so amazing.]

When Marvin came home, I was sitting on the sofa watching a drama.

He frowned and said, "Rhea, didn't I tell you that you shouldn't waste time watching meaningless soap operas? You're already a grown-up. Stop being so childish."

His tone was full of disdain, and he picked up the remote control and turned off the TV.

Then he handed me a luxury bag as if giving alms.

"Here's your gift. It's this year's new model."

I glanced at it and saw something pink. So, it was something Madge didn't want.

Because I had seen it in Madge's second post. In the photo, this bag was thrown on the floor.

She posted, [My Prince Charming is so cute. He actually gave me a pink dress. After ten years, he still thinks I'd like this old-fashioned color.]

He actually gave me something that Madge despised.

How perfunctory he is!

I couldn't help but feel bitter, yet I kept expressionless and just nodded.

Seeing me like this, he suddenly pulled a long face. "What's that look on your face? I didn't get you the medicine. So what? You're fine, aren't you? Stop being so dramatic!

"It's not like I did it on purpose. I got delayed because of my work. Why are you so unreasonable?

"You should have prepared more medicine at home. Blame yourself for being unlucky."

I sneered.

"You don't remember who accidentally threw my medicine in the trash?"

Marvin was stunned for a second and then hesitantly said, "You put it in the wrong place. I didn't do it on purpose."

I sneered inwardly. That day, when I came home with the medicine, he said he was hungry. I didn't have time to put the medicine away, so I just casually placed it on the cabinet by the door.

There was a pile of neatly arranged express cardboard boxes. I was about to throw them away.

Medicine boxes and express boxes weren't hard to distinguish, were they?

Besides, Madge had come back. Even if I had died that night, he would still go.

His voice softened. "Forget it. Sorry. It's my fault. Let it pass."

As he said, he sat down and wanted to hug me.

A faint fragrance of flowers came from him, making me feel nauseous. I moved aside.

He didn't get to hug me and started to be annoyed again.

"Rhea, I have already apologized and given in. What else do you want me to do? Do you want me to kneel and apologize to you?

"I hate the most when you act all cold and dismissive. Do I owe you something?"

Seeing how frustrated he was, I calmly said.

"Is the view from the top beautiful tonight?"

He was stunned at first, and then his face turned sullen, and he yelled at me angrily.

"Are you following me?

"I didn't tell you precisely because you were always so paranoid. But I didn't expect you to be this jealous.

"You said you had a hypertensive attack? I think it's just an excuse because you wanted me back. If you were really that sick, would you have the energy to follow me?

"Living in the same space with you is simply terrifying. Reflect on yourself at home."
