Chapter 1

"Sophia, did you really think I’d ever stoop so low? To choose you?"

My heart thudded painfully against my ribs as Alpha Damian's voice sliced through the crowd, his tone laced with disgust.

Every pair of eyes in the pack turned towards me, their whispers a sharp static that burned into my skin.

The full moon bathed the clearing in silver, but its light offered no comfort. Damian’s eyes bore into mine, cold and unrelenting, as if daring me to crumble.

"You’re nothing more than a weak, useless omega."

A collective gasp rippled through the pack. I felt the blood drain from my face, the heat of humiliation rising to my cheeks. My throat tightened, the words I wanted to say caught somewhere between a scream and a sob.

"Felicia is the only one worthy of standing beside me. She has strength, ambition... everything you lack."

His words struck like daggers, each one more brutal than the last. I wanted to speak, to defend myself, but my voice betrayed me, leaving me suffocated in silence. Felicia stepped forward then, her smirk a perfect mask of triumph.

"Poor thing," she cooed mockingly. "Did you actually believe fate would make him yours? How pitiful."

The pack laughed, the sound a cruel symphony that shattered whatever fragile confidence I had left.

My legs trembled beneath me, but I refused to fall. I clenched my fists, nails digging into my palms until pain became my anchor.

"You’ll regret this," I whispered, though my voice barely carried over the noise.

Damian tilted his head, a cruel smile tugging at his lips.

"Regret? The only regret here is that I ever let you think you were my equal."

The pack roared with laughter again, the sound echoing in my ears as if the very forest mocked me. I turned on my heel and walked away, my dignity hanging by a thread.

But I wouldn’t cry not here, not in front of them.

The forest swallowed me as I stumbled away from the clearing, its shadows offering a bitter kind of solace. My chest heaved, the weight of Damian’s rejection pressing down like a vice.

But then came the whispers.

"Do you wish for power, child?"

The voice slithered through my mind, rich and dark as velvet. I froze, scanning my surroundings.

"Who... who’s there?"

The shadows seemed to shift, twisting and coiling like living things.

"Do you want to make them pay?"

My breath hitched. It wasn’t a question it was a promise.

"What are you?"

Laughter, soft and sinister, echoed in my mind.

"I am the answer to your pain, Sophia. Accept my gift, and the pack will kneel before you."

My heart raced, torn between fear and temptation. The idea of Damian of Felicia brought low was intoxicating.

But there was a catch. There always was.

"What’s the price?"

The voice purred in satisfaction.

"Your soul, dear one. But isn’t vengeance worth it?"

My fingers grazed the scarred bark of a nearby tree, grounding myself. This was madness. A deal with shadows? But then I thought of Damian’s sneer, Felicia’s laughter, the pack’s scorn.

What did I have left to lose?

"What if I say yes?"

The forest seemed to shudder, the shadows closing in like a thousand unseen hands reaching out.

"Then, my dear, you shall have your revenge."

My lips parted to respond, but the distant sound of voices broke the spell.

Pack members. They were searching for me.

I turned towards the sound, my resolve wavering.

"Tick-tock, Sophia. Decide."

The voice faded, leaving only silence and the pounding of my heart.

The first figure emerged from the trees, I swallowed hard. Whatever I chose, there would be no turning back.

"Over here! She’s here!"

They were close now, their faces hard and unforgiving.

"Alpha’s orders," one growled. "She’s to be exiled."

The word hung heavy in the air exiled. My heart shattered anew, but beneath the despair burned a fire I couldn’t extinguish.

I straightened my spine, meeting their eyes.

This wasn’t the end. It was only the beginning.
