Chapter 1

On the National Sales Day, my boyfriend flaunted a shopping list worth $17,000. Our mutual friends praised me for landing such a generous boyfriend. He proudly said, “As long as my girlfriend is happy, everything I do is worth it!” But I turned around and reported him to the court of scumbags. If I lost the case, I face death and complete destruction.

——

“Emily, what are you doing? Is there something you’re unhappy about with me? Let’s resolve it privately,” Nathan pleaded. “While the trial hasn’t officially started, you should withdraw the lawsuit. There’s still time! If the trial fails, you will disappear immediately!”

In the courtroom, Nathan shouted at me with a concerned voice. His words seemed supportive but were actually fanning the flames. His behavior seemed to testify that I made a scene for no reason.

Sure enough, my mom was the first to take the bait. “Emily, Even if you searched the world over, you wouldn’t find a son-in-law as good as Nathan!” My mom has a loud voice and can’t keep a secret. Soon, it was out that Nathan had spent $17,000 on gifts for me on this National Sales Day.

“You can’t get muddled mind!” she strongly advised me against doing something stupid. Her intention was clear: she wanted me to marry Nathan peacefully. Her gaze fell on my dad, and the confusion and blame in his eyes already indicated his stance. As for the other audience members in the courtroom, there was an uproar.

Once you step onto the trial platform, it’s a matter of life and death. If the plaintiff loses, they disappear immediately. If the defendant loses, they are wiped out by the system!

A mutual friend gossiped, “I heard that Nathan treats Emily exceptionally well! During a heavy rainstorm, she wanted snacks from the neighboring city, and he went there in the rain overnight to get them. It took a total of five hours for the round trip! There was no high-speed train at that time!”

“That’s not all! I’m her roommate, and every holiday, Nathan would give her many gifts, like delicious food and fun things. As for anniversaries, let’s not even mention it! Spending money and traveling with her was a daily occurrence.”

The audience members who didn’t know us were stunned. They started talking amongst themselves. “This man is definitely a pure love warrior! I must date someone like him in this lifetime!”

“Boys must protect themselves when they go out!”

“Women nowadays are really materialistic. Fortunately, I’ve taught my son since he was young that he should call the police if a girl looks at him for more than two seconds!”

Looking at the overwhelmingly supportive crowd, I decisively pressed the start button. If I hadn’t been reborn, I’d still be lost in Nathan’s beautiful fairy tale.

I declared, “I applied for an early trial.”
