Chapter 6

The aftermath of the Trial of Blood left the Bloodthorn Pack in a tense silence. The once bustling arena was now filled with whispers. The pack members casted wary glances at Aria as she stood near Kael. Her thoughts were like a whirlwind of confusion.

Kael, though victorious, was visibly exhausted. His body bore the marks of the fierce battle, blood staining his clothes as he stood tall, commanding respect despite his wounds. But his gaze remained on Aria. A mixture of curiosity and something was deeper in his eyes, an emotion that tugged at her in ways she couldn't yet understand.

"Are you hurt?" Kael's voice was low, barely above a whisper, as he took a step closer to her.

Aria shook her head, still reeling from the intensity of the trial. "No, I'm fine," she replied. Her voice was steadier than she felt. But her mind was far from calm. Draven’s words echoed in her head. The revelation of her true lineage was unsettling her to the core.

Kael studied her for a moment longer. "You did well to stand your ground," he said, surprising her with the unexpected praise. "But this isn’t over. Draven was only the beginning."

Aria swallowed hard. And her heart raced as she processed the implications of his words. "What did he mean?" she asked, her voice trembling slightly. "About my bloodline?"

Kael’s expression darkened, a shadow passing over his features. "We’ll discuss this later," he said. His tone left no room for argument. "For now, you need to rest. There’s much to prepare for."

Aria frowned, frustration bubbling up inside her. She had so many questions, but it was clear that Kael was not in the mood to answer them—at least, not yet. But she couldn’t shake the feeling that whatever truths were being kept from her would only lead to more danger, more conflict.

“Fine,” she conceded, though the resolve in her voice was unmistakable. “But you owe me answers, Kael.”

He nodded, acknowledging her demand. “And you’ll get them. In time.”

Kael motioned for two pack members to escort her back to her quarters, but Aria hesitated. Her eyes lingered on the spot where Draven had fallen. His body had already been removed. But the memory of the battle lingered. It was like a sharp reminder of the dangers that surrounded her.

As she turned to leave, a hand caught her arm. And when she spun around, she saw Selene, Kael’s sister and a respected member of the pack. Selene’s eyes were kind. But there was an undeniable strength behind them, a strength that Aria found both comforting and intimidating.

“Come with me,” Selene said softly, leading Aria away from the crowd. “There’s something I need to tell you.”
