At 1 a.m., I got a text about a charge on my health insurance card.

Worried something had happened to my sister, I sped to the hospital.

What was waiting for me was my sister, Olivia, injured from some late-night shenanigans, lying in a hospital bed.

Her face fell when she saw me. "Why did you come?"

"I saw the insurance alert, got scared, and came right over," I explained.

Noticing my concerned gaze, the nurse updating her IV chimed in, "She just overdid it and has some tears. A few days of rest, and she'll be fine."

"But next time, take it easy—don't use anything too big, and try not to go overboard."

Olivia sat up abruptly.

She snapped, "All these questions! You always dig too deep, don't you? Here to laugh at me, huh?"

I had just arrived, clueless about why she was here.

Apologetically, I added, "I didn't mean it that way. I was out of the loop... sorry for barging in. Please, calm down."

Suddenly, a male voice at the door, "Olivia, all settled. Hungry? I could—"

His words were cut off by Olivia's cough.

I ignored her and faced the man near the bed—my boyfriend, Jason, who was supposed to be away on business.

"What are you doing here?" I demanded.

Jason hemmed and hawed, finally muttering, "Just... coincidental."

Coincidental?

Olivia was in the hospital for a sex toy mishap, and Jason, my long-distance boyfriend, was the one by her side?

I eyed them both, torn between anger and disbelief.

Olivia slammed the bed, "Enough, Heather! Jason is here because I asked him. I couldn't talk about this at home, and calling 911 was too embarrassing, so I called him!"

"Embarrassing? Too shy to call mom or me, but it's fine to dial up my boyfriend?" I shot back.

"What could you or mom do? You can't carry me," Olivia retorted.

"Then whoever you were with should have brought you here! Don't tell me you rented a hotel room just for your toys," I countered.

"Why not? Who says I can't enjoy myself in a hotel? That's one of my kinks!" Olivia declared defiantly.

"Is it insecurity about your own relationship, or just a dirty mind projecting on others?" she accused.

Classic Olivia, turning things around. Knowing her since childhood, I knew she'd never own up without proof.

I was done talking.

The truth always comes to light, no matter how well it's hidden.
