Chapter 4

Night – Virell Tower Server Vault

Pain was a language Sera Myles no longer feared.

She had been beaten before—by nature, by men, by time. But Damon’s fists were different. Sloppier. Desperate. His violence wasn’t discipline; it was the panic of a man losing control.

She drifted in and out of consciousness as the elevator hummed downward.

Her head rested against Dominic Kael’s chest. His shirt soaked up her blood. His hand never left her waist, steady as a lock.

“Vitals are stable,” one of the men murmured from the corner of the elevator.

Dominic didn’t respond. His gaze stayed on her bruised face, and something dark pooled behind his eyes. Not pity.

Strategy.

Rage.

---

They didn’t take her to a hospital.

Too traceable.

Instead, they brought her to an underground medical bay—clean steel counters, dim lights, and a surgeon with gloves and no name.

Sera winced as the numbing injection bit into her cheek.

“She needs rest,” the surgeon said.

“She’ll get it,” Dominic answered, standing nearby, arms crossed. “When I’m finished.”

Sera turned her face slowly toward him. “You came fast.”

“You activated the failsafe early. I knew it was bad.”

Her voice was hoarse. “They made the boy hit me. Elira fed me dog food. Told me Damon bought my kidnapping. Paid for it with my own money.”

Dominic’s jaw twitched.

“I know,” he said. “We intercepted the recordings.”

“You listened?”

“We monitored everything. For weeks. But we had to wait for a full breach opportunity.”

Her vision blurred. “Didn’t want to ruin your timing?”

Dominic knelt beside her. His gloved hand brushed a strand of blood-matted hair from her forehead.

“I didn’t want to lose you again.”

That stopped her.

For a moment, the cold edge in her chest cracked. The girl who once begged Damon to love her still lived inside—but Sera had buried her under layers of fire.

She blinked.

“Are the files ready?”

Dominic nodded. “Six terabytes of evidence. Insider trading, money laundering, torture footage. Audio of Damon talking to Balkan middlemen. It’s all compiled.”

“And the leak plan?”

“Mid-level drop. Federal prosecutor in D.C. first. Social media second. Financial press last.”

Sera closed her eyes. “What’s the headline?”

Dominic didn’t hesitate. “Wife Returned from the Dead: Tech CEO Ordered Her Kidnapping to Steal Her Inheritance.”

Sera smiled. “Good.”

---

Hours later, after the bruises were treated and the worst of the swelling faded, Sera stood alone in the suite Dominic had secured—floor forty-two of an unlisted Midtown high-rise. Private elevator. Syndicate-owned.

She wore black silk pajamas and stared out the window at the city below, alive with light, oblivious to the reckoning marching toward it.

Her reflection stared back, ghost-pale and sharpened with fury.

Then the phone rang.

A secure line. Syndicate-only.

She picked up.

A familiar voice on the other end: Lennox, Dominic’s logistics chief.

“He’s counterattacking,” Lennox said. “Damon just filed a criminal case. Charges against you. Wire fraud. Espionage. Identity theft.”

Sera’s lips parted. “They moved faster than I expected.”

“He’s pulled strings. You’re being arrested. Tonight. At JFK.”

Sera glanced at the clock.

Two hours.

“I’ll be ready.”

---

The terminal lights at JFK were blinding.

Cameras flashed. A sea of reporters surged forward as two federal marshals marched beside her. She wore a sleek gray coat and sunglasses. Head held high.

To them, she was a scandal.

A returned ghost turned felon.

To Damon, this was checkmate.

But the moment they placed her in the interrogation room, alone with a federal agent and a dusty file labeled “Myers, Sera,” she smiled.

“Would you like to hear my side?” she asked.

The agent raised an eyebrow. “You planning to confess?”

“Oh no,” she whispered. “I’m planning to detonate.”

She reached into the lining of her coat and retrieved a thin, waterproof flash drive stitched into the hem. She placed it gently on the table.

“Play that.”

The agent inserted it into the laptop.

Audio filled the room.

Damon’s voice. Clear. Arrogant.

“Of course I paid for it. You think I’d let her divorce me? She had half the patents. Half the trust. No way I was giving that up. The Balkans were an opportunity.”

Another file.

Video.

Elira, laughing beside her child, mocking Sera’s cries.

“We should’ve let the dogs chew on her. Instead, she gets silk sheets.”

More: email records, bank transfers, Balkan wire routes traced to shell companies.

The agent’s expression shifted from skepticism to horror.

Sera leaned back. “So. Still want to press charges?”

---

Ten hours later, every major media outlet had the leak.

CNN: Biotech Mogul Accused of Orchestrating Wife’s Kidnapping

Forbes: Virell IPO Delayed Amid Scandal, Abuse Claims

Vice: From Silicon Love Story to Torture Allegations—Inside the Virell Empire’s Collapse

Stock analysts were already calling the IPO “radioactive.” Investors bailed.

Online, the court of public opinion held no mercy.

#JusticeForSera trended worldwide.

Photos of her bruised face hit Instagram.

Clips of Damon’s voice echoed on TikTok.

On Reddit, the thread “Elira Fed Her Dog Food??” went viral in under twenty minutes.

Damon called his lawyer.

No one picked up.

---

That evening, Sera sat in Dominic’s private lounge, glass of red wine in hand, wrapped in a dark robe. Her feet tucked beneath her.

Dominic sat beside her, suit crisp, phone lighting up with constant updates.

“You’ve drawn first blood,” he said.

Sera sipped. “And they didn’t even see the knife.”

He looked at her then. “Are you happy?”

She didn’t answer.

Instead, she walked to the fireplace, the one with no logs, only a gas line that cast orange light over the room like a dream.

“Happy?” she echoed. “Not yet. But we’ve started.”

He stood and approached her, close enough for warmth but far enough for respect.

“Then what’s next?”

She stared into the flames.

“Collapse,” she whispered. “I want to watch everything he built rot from the inside.”

Dominic’s hand touched hers. “Then we’ll dismantle it. Piece by piece.”

Sera’s eyes burned with cold fire. “I was the foundation. Now I’ll be the wrecking ball.”
