Chapter 2

How could I forget?! Airports always had security checks. The murderer would be unable to bring any weapons in!

When I realized that, my tense back relaxed a little. This meant that I would be temporarily safe if I did not leave the airport.

I wanted to continue combing through the clues. However, regardless of how I racked my brains, I could not find any other clue.

Frustrated, I stood up and went to the washroom. When I was washing my hands, through the mirror, I noticed something on the floor of the washroom cubicle.

It was a pair of masculine, large feet.

I met the person’s gaze.

When I saw him, he did not avoid my gaze. Instead, he opened the door of the cubicle and held his hand over my mouth. He prepared to drag me into the cubicle.

He was very strong, and he was very hairy. I almost fainted from his body odor.

I kicked and tried to resist his attack. However, my eyes widened after he said something, and I stopped resisting.

“Your younger brother is with me. Don’t try anything if you want him to live.”

My younger brother? I was the only daughter.

My instincts told me that I probably could find the truth of my imminent death through this. I let him drag me into the cubicle.

He tried to tear my clothes off me, but I used my hairpin as a weapon and pressed it against his throat.

When he was forcefully dragging me, my hair was all messed up. I took the opportunity to hide my hairpin in my palm, just in case I had a chance to use it.

“What did you do to my younger brother?” I tried to probe for more information, but I suddenly smelled piss.

The kidnapper was pleading with me in a trembling voice.

“I… I’m innocent. I only heard that your father was making a call, saying that he would fulfil the deal once he had gathered enough money. He was begging the kidnapper not to hurt his son.

“I’m truly innocent. I just thought that you’re pretty, so I wanted to use this chance to try my luck.”

When did my father have a son?

Who was he dealing with?

Several questions filled my brain. While I was distracted, the kidnapper escaped.

However, I did not have the energy to think about him. I just wanted to find out the truth.

When I returned to the departure hall, my father was chatting happily with my husband. When my mother wanted to join the conversation, he chastised her.

As I watched how my parents interacted, some details from our daily lives that I previously overlooked suddenly became clear in my mind.

My mother had a miscarriage once. It was a male fetus that was almost due to be born. Because she was older when she was pregnant, the doctor had removed her uterus when they were saving her life.

From then on, my family was in constant discord. My parents kept fighting, and our quality of life had lowered.

I initially thought that a combination of some business failings and losing a child had caused my father’s temperament to change. However, when he was talking to my husband, he still acted like the gentle, refined, successful businessman that he used to be.

During dinner, I had complained to my father that my husband was too stingy with me. I had expected him to take my side, but instead, he scolded me unhappily.

“Your boyfriend is right. Drinking a cup of coffee every week is a waste. You’re too much. This proves that men are far better at running a home than women.”

Because of that, I threw a huge tantrum. My father had promised to buy me some jewelry to apologize to me.

I recalled my father buying a necklace and a watch. I was wearing the necklace, but that watch seemed to have gone missing.

When I thought about the kidnapper’s words and my father’s recent behavior, a ridiculous conclusion formed in my mind.

My father had an affair, and he had an illegitimate son.

The illegitimate son was kidnapped. Did that kidnapper have anything to do with our deaths?

I had less than six hours left. I really wanted to ask my father to come clean, but I was afraid of alerting the wrong party. Just when I was hesitating, a group of armed security suddenly surrounded me.

“We found Joe Smith’s body in the washroom. The surveillance footage showed that you were the only one who went to the washroom during that time. Please cooperate with us in our investigation.”
