Running From Alpha Mate(Freya Series Book 2)
Chapter 5
Freya Rose
Mason quickly removed his hand from my jeans, and I scrambled to do them back up. I was pushing my back against the door, trying my best to keep Damien out.
“Shit, shit, shit!” Mason whispered in a panic.
“Quick, go out the window,” I said quietly while pointing to the open bathroom window.
“You can't be serious?” He looked at me like I was crazy, as we both pushed harder against the door trying to keep Damien out.
“You got any better ideas?” I asked him with one eyebrow raised. He shook his head while mouthing the words, one... two... three, then sprinted as fast as he could towards the window, before diving head-first out of it. I giggled and lost my grip on the door. Damien pushed against it again sending me flying across the bathroom floor and smashing into the bath panel.
“Freya are you okay? Why wouldn't the door open?” Damien asked as he came over to me and helped me up off of the floor.
“Uh, I don't know. I was trying to open it and it got stuck, then I fell over in front of it. That's why you couldn't open it,” I said in a rush.
I was quite impressed with myself that I'd managed to think up a quick lie. My thoughts suddenly went to Mason, I hoped he was okay. I had visions of him landing head-first on the floor outside.
“Right, okay, well I'm glad you're fine. Can you meet me in my office downstairs, I think it's about time I explained everything, don't you?”
“Yeah,” I nodded in agreement.
He turned around and walked out of the bathroom. Once I knew that he was gone, I quickly ran over to the window. I nervously peered over the window ledge, half expecting to see Mason splattered all over the concrete slabs below. I sighed with relief then chuckled as he looked up at me with a massive grin on his face, before sending me a cheeky wink.
“Mason, what the hell are you doing out there?” Damien boomed. I waved at Mason, and then quickly ducked back into the bathroom, as soon as I saw Damien walk out into the garden. I made my way through the bedroom and hurried down the stairs to find Damien's office. I looked down, and there was Mason, I still couldn't get used to his amazing speed. He was even faster than Tristan, and I still hadn't got used to his inhuman speed, yet.
My heart hurt a little, when I thought of Tristan, but I was soon distracted from my thoughts as I looked at Mason's gorgeous face. He was smiling from ear to ear, while watching me intently as I made my descent down the stairs. I blushed because his expression was in complete awe of me. His reaction to seeing me gave me butterflies in my stomach and made my heart race. I got to the bottom of the stairs, then closed my eyes and did my controlled breathing exercises. He chuckled as he stood behind me, and then gently guided me blindly through the house. I opened my eyes once we'd stopped walking.
“You ready, Freya?” Mason asked while squeezing my shoulders.
I took in a deep breath, then exhaled it. Holding my head high, I opened the door to Damien's office and walked in. He glared up from his desk with a surprised look sprawled across his face, I'm guessing he wasn't used to people just barging into his office without knocking. It didn't matter to me in the slightest what he thought. I wasn't in the mood for pleasantries today, and I certainly wasn't here for a daddy daughter bonding session. I wanted answers and that was it. I took a seat on the couch confidently, he smiled at me seemingly impressed by my boldness.
“You can leave now, Mason,” Damien ordered as he got up from his desk and took a seat on the couch opposite me. Mason nodded his head and began to slowly close the door.
“No! Mason stays,” I demanded, and then patted the seat next to me for him to come and sit with me. Damien huffed, but nodded his head at Mason. Mason nervously smiled and then awkwardly came into the room closing the door behind him. He then made his way over to me and sat down.
“So, do you want me to start? Or do you want to ask me some questions first? I'll answer them as honestly as I can,” Damien asked me as he sat back, trying to get comfortable in his seat. I didn't waste any time, and blurted out,
“Why did you leave us?”
I could tell he was taken aback by my bluntness. He looked over towards Mason with slight embarrassment, then began to answer,
“Well, our kind is born with a birthmark,” he said as he lifted up the arm of his shirt to reveal a small red mark.
It was a lightning bolt sort of shape with flames around it. It made perfect sense, it symbolized exactly how the heat and electricity had surged through my body so many times. Damien looked over at Mason, urging him to show his own mark. Mason obliged and stood up from the couch. I watched as he lifted his t-shirt, then began to pull down his jeans a little bit. I blushed remembering our magnetic encounters, and he grinned at me in response. He lowered his jeans a little more, while his eyes were burning into my own. He looked down indicating for me to follow his gaze. I looked down and there it was, the same mark as Damien's. It was neatly placed on his hip.
“Ahem,” Damien cleared his throat rather obviously and interrupted our moment.
“When you were born, you didn't have the mark. That was when I made the decision to leave, it was the best way to keep you and your mother safe from our world,” he said with regret clearly filling his eyes.
Without answering him, I stood up from my seat. Damien's eyes grew wide with confusion as he watched me. I turned my back to him and lifted up my hair. I heard Damien gasp suddenly, and Mason quickly shot up to take a look at my neck.
“Oh damn,” Mason said as he swept his thumb across my birthmark.
It took all my strength not to moan out with pleasure as his skin brushed over mine. I let my hair go, then sat back down to face Damien. I stared at him with a sarcastic smirk plastered on my face.
“No, that's impossible. I checked you from head to toe when you were born. There was no mark, I swear,” he stated in complete confusion.
Mason sat back down and slumped against the couch rubbing the back of his neck.
“The mark came up a few weeks after I was born. Mom took me to the doctors to have it checked out, and they said it was just a birthmark. I was born a couple of weeks early, so it just took a bit of time to come out,” I explained to him as I watched his face drop.
“I've never heard of that happening before. I am so sorry, Freya. I can't believe I left you to go through this all on your own. You must have been so confused every time you're rage took over,” he said in a devastated voice as he dropped his head into his hands.
I shifted around in my seat feeling a little uncomfortable while watching Damien's distress.
“I have only been getting the rage episodes in the last few weeks,” I replied.
Damien brought his head back up and looked over to Mason, they shared a silent moment, then Damien asked me in a concerned tone,
“Have you recently found out about any supernatural beings? This is going to sound insane, but like, werewolves or vampires, that sort of thing?” Mason quickly sat up in his seat to listen to my reply.
“Um, actually yes, I have,” I replied simply, not wanting to go into too much detail.
“The tracker wolf on the bus, you said you recognized him,” Mason quickly stated.
I nodded, not wanting to elaborate further than I had to. Damien got up and walked over to his desk, and then wheeled out his chair placing it in front of me, before sitting down on it. He took my hands in his and gazed deep into my eyes.
“You need to tell us everything, Freya. We need to make sure you're safe, and we need to know exactly what we’re dealing with here,” he said in a worried voice.
I didn't want to answer him, I still didn't know what, ‘we were.’
For all I knew, these people could have been extremely dangerous to the pack and want to kill them all. I could not let that happen. But I could plead the wolves case for them, and then let him know about the vampires instead. Now, I didn't care if he ripped them bastards to absolute shreds. I sat forwards, took in a deep breath and started to explain everything,
“Right. A few weeks back I found out that my boyfriend of two years, and my best friends are werewolves...” I said calmly, but got cut off immediately by Damien,
“Damn it to hell. I thought you would be safe if I left you to live a human life,” he pushed his chair back with his legs, then paced around the room angrily.
Crack!
He punched the door so hard, that his fist went right through it.
“Fuck!” He shouted out while shaking his hand.
“Did they hurt you?” Mason asked as he held my shoulders and pulled me around to face him. He stared into my eyes as he waited for my response.
“No. Of course not, why would they? They all love me like one of their own,” I protested pulling my body away from his hands.
“One of their own?” Damien scoffed as he kicked the desk chair across the room.
I jumped back in my seat and Mason quickly grabbed my hand to settle my nerves, bad idea Mason, I thought.
“Mmmm,” I moaned out loudly, my face immediately flushed with embarrassment and Mason quickly pulled his hand away.
It was too late, Damien had already spotted it, he rushed at Mason, picked him up by his throat, before throwing him across the room like a rag doll.
“Argh!” Mason shouted as he smashed into the wall opposite, then fell down onto the couch.
I quickly shot up and out of my seat, then grabbed Damien's arm trying to stop him going after Mason. I wasn't doing too well though, and he just dragged me along the floor with him. I was freaking out, and I couldn't think of what to do to stop him. Mason was laid on the couch holding his hands out in front of him, trying to talk Damien down. Damien was way beyond talking at this point. I jumped in between Damien and Mason and held my hands out, but he just kept moving forward.
“Dad,” I shouted as his chest pushed against my hands.
I thought calling him dad would snap him out of it, but it didn't, he just continued to push forwards, sliding me backwards along the floor. I knew he was going to kill Mason when he finally got his hands on him. I felt my rage building as I panicked, trying my best to save Mason.
My body began to shake violently and was pulsating with power and electricity. It felt like a fire had been ignited inside of me, and I was about to explode. Oh, no, not another fit? Not now! I panicked. But instead of the usual body stiffening and convulsions, my head tilted back, and a prolonged high-pitched screech escaped my lips,
“Stop!”
A bright white light beamed out of my eyes and mouth. My arms shot out to the sides as an excruciating pain shot through my shoulder blades, it felt like something was trying to rip out of my skin. The screech continued as I began to levitate into the air.
