Chapter 2

When I walked out of the operating room, it was already late afternoon.

I stepped into the lobby and spotted a delivery guy walking in with a giant bouquet of yellow roses. He asked loudly, "Is there a Mrs. Reed here? Mr. Reed ordered these flowers for you."

I couldn't help but smile.

I had rushed out this morning and argued with Jackson over nothing. We had ignored each other all day. Those yellow roses were clearly his peace offering.

I held back a laugh and stepped forward. "They're mine. I'm—"

"Don't touch my flowers!"

Before I even reached the bouquet, Christina shot in from the other side. She shoved me hard and glared at me with pure contempt.

"Seriously, Josephine Tyson. Where's your dignity? First, you claimed my car was yours this morning, and now you're trying to steal my flowers. Do you have no shame at all?"

Her shove made me stumble. I hadn't planned to argue, but her attitude lit a fire in me. I frowned at her. "Are you out of your mind? Those are my flowers."

The interns standing behind Christina burst out laughing. They pointed at me like they were watching a circus show.

"Stop pretending, Dr. Tyson. A huge bouquet of roses like that? Only Christina's rich husband could afford something like it. Who on earth would send anything like that to you?"

"Seriously. I've never seen someone stoop so low for flowers. The way you ran up there without a hint of pride made me embarrassed for you."

"She's lucky Christina is a gracious society wife. Anyone else would've already called security!"

Christina put on a shy little act beside them. "Oh, stop. You're all terrible. I told you my identity is supposed to stay private, and now you're saying it out loud.

"My darling husband is the heir to a powerful family. Everyone wants a piece of him. I don't want random people bothering us every day."

The others quickly comfort her. They praised her and said they understood, looking at her with open envy.

I stared at them, stunned. Annoyance bubbled inside me. "So your darling husband lets you drive someone else's car and grab someone else's flowers? Society wife? If you're that wealthy, why are you even working? Just go home and rest!"

"You know nothing. I earn my keep!" Christina flushed bright red. My words had clearly hit a nerve.

She took a step toward me and said, "I'll say his name and scare you straight. My husband is the heir to Reed Group!"

I froze for a second before I realized who she meant. I frowned and asked back, "You mean Jackson Reed?"

"How dare you! Who do you think you are to say my husband's name so casually?"

She glared at me with wild arrogance.

I was speechless. "Did Jackson marry you in your dreams?"

"You dare insult me?" Christina's face twisted with rage. She tilted her chin up in disdain. "My husband won't let you get away with this—"

I raised my hand and cut her off, "I don't know what your husband will do. But I can tell you this. You pretending to be the wife of the Reed family's heir is fraud, and Jackson will definitely not let it slide!"

Watching someone pretend to be a society wife at my expense was a new experience. I almost applauded.

Christina's face reddened even more. "How dare you say I'm pretending. I am Jackson Reed's wife!"

"Where's the proof?" I asked, staring at her. "Talk is cheap. Why should I believe you're Mrs. Reed?"

"I-I'll call my husband right now," she sputtered. "He'll come here himself."

She whipped out her phone and purred into it. "Honey, come to the hospital. Some awful woman doesn't believe who you are, and she keeps bullying me."

"Who's dumb enough to mess with my woman? I'm on my way right now!" the man on the other end replied instantly.

Christina squared her shoulders and looked around triumphantly. "Everyone, stay. When my husband gets here, he won't let this tramp off easy!"

I was stunned by her confidence. If her husband really was Jackson Reed, then who was my husband

So I texted Jackson and asked him to pick me up at the hospital.

"Okay," Jackson replied quickly.

His message eased my nerves and made me look forward to this real-Jackson versus fake-Jackson showdown even more.
