Chapter 3

In the evening, Johnathan called me into the study.

I stood quietly in front of him, not trying to please him as usual.

He frowned and began to scold me.

"Don't look so sad all the time. You'll ruin all the good luck in our family.

"You are the older sister. From today on, you must protect Edison. You must rush to the front when there is danger and you must not let him get hurt."

I looked down at my thin arms and legs.

He asked me, a little girl of sixteen or seventeen, to protect a boy who was taller than me.

I didn't know what he was thinking.

I was so unlucky to have such a father.

"I refuse."

"What did you say?" he said angrily.

"Dad, have you forgotten?" I looked at him and said.

"My mother's wish is for me to get into a good university. The entrance exam is coming soon, and I have a lot of things to do."

When talking about my mom, Johnathan looked a little uneasy.

But soon, he became angry.

"You've grown up and learned to talk back. What's the point of getting into a good university for a little girl like you?

"Just finish high school. I'll find you a husband and give you some money. You won't live much longer anyway. That's it."

It turned out he wanted to make me a scapegoat again.

I clenched my fists and wanted to hit him.

Johnathan was indeed not a very smart man.

He was dominating, arrogant, and extremely confident.

When my mother married him, he had nothing.

Although my parents said they had started from scratch most of our family's business was managed by my mother alone.

Johnathan did nothing but liked to give random instructions.

He was a very poor partner.

To maintain family harmony, my mother tolerated him all the time.

This made Johnathan feel that he was extremely capable as if everything he obtained was what he deserved due to his hard work.

He ignored my mother's advice and took full control of the company.

My mother was strongly opposed to the mining project that had the accident. She had doubts about the safety conditions, but Johnathan insisted on going ahead.

He said to my mother, "You are a woman, and you know nothing. You are short-sighted. Don't delay me from making a lot of money."

My mother was so angry that she became ill and had to stay in bed.

He liked being flattered. He accepted benefits from others and gave the project to someone he had never heard of.

Johnathan never felt that there was anything wrong with himself.

When my mother gave birth to me, she didn't get enough rest and became ill.

She had poor health and had been busy working for the company and our family for many years. She was eventually diagnosed with advanced gastric cancer and died in pain.

But Johnathan said that my mother delayed his progress.

In the two days after my mother passed away, he was depressed, but not long after that, he married Elena.

He never mentioned my mother's hard work but only said that I was the one who killed my mother.

Later, his business went downhill and there was an accident at the mine...

He blamed it all on me.

Men who would only blame others were incompetent.

I had been with my mother since I was a child and had been taught to be filial to my parents and respect elders.

I had always done what I was told.

My mother didn't know that I hated Johnathan because he was not nice to her.

But before she died, she held my hand and said to me, "Stella, from now on, you and your father should take care of each other. He is your only relative. You must promise me that you will be filial to him."

So, when I had a choice, I chose to benefit him first.

I looked at the man in front of me who was waiting for me to compromise.

I didn't know why my mother treated him like that.

Why did she have to work hard for him and risk her life for him?

And I was also affected by my mother in my previous life.

"When I grow up, I will leave him."

I simply refused, "My mother didn't give birth to me to be a babysitter. He's already grown up, you can take care of him if you want, don't ask me to."

As soon as I finished speaking, I opened the door and went out.

After walking a few steps, I heard the sound of him smashing a cup inside.

"You're just like your mother..."

After being reborn, he hadn't changed at all.

"Mom, you are wrong. Real relatives are not like this," I said in my heart.

After returning to my room, I took out my books and made a new study plan for myself.
