Chapter 5

It didn't take long before dad came back into the ward. He told me he had left to get my discharge papers. I wanted to have some little father-daughter moment with him but it was interrupted by the appearance of Amara.

They were done.. so quick? She looked so tidied up like she wasn't fucking my husband in an empty ward minutes ago. She walked towards me and gave me a reassuring smile.

Her passionate moment with Andrew might have calmed her down. I fought so hard to hide my irritation till we finally left the hospital to our mansion. Even after I got married, I still lived in my father's house, together with Andrew.

Amara was the one that gave me that idea saying it would make dad be more approving of my marriage with Andrew. I accepted that idea without much thought not knowing she was just using it as a way to get more close to her lover.

When we got inside, dad followed Amara to the room they both shared. I didn't want him to spend more time with that vixen so I decided to follow them.

I was about to take a step when someone suddenly pulled me back. I turned only to see Andrew. Seeing his face made my heart skip a beat in fear. Was he here to assault me again?

He raised his hands and I shut my eyes in fear, anticipating the pain that was coming till I felt him rest his hands instead on my shoulder.

"Catherine.." His voice made me open my eyes and I stared at him in confusion.

"I'm so sorry for how I reacted today. I don't know what suddenly came over me." He muttered, his face filled with remorse.

Andrew had never been one to apologize. He always gives me reasons for all his actions and makes me think I am the one at fault. Why is he suddenly switching methods??

"I was mad thinking you might be cheating on me but now that I think about it, you can never have the heart to do something like that because of the love you have for me." He added as his soft gaze momentarily turned cold.

He was trying to convince me that he was the only one that I would ever have eyes for. If only he knows what's going on in my head right now. Well, if he wants to play that game, then I will play it too.

I looked up to match his gaze; "I'm so sorry for what I said. Due to the pain of loosing our child, I said somethings that should have never been mentioned. I didn't mean to say those words."

He had this weird look on when I said that like he didn't really trust my words so I decided to spice things a little bit so he would still think I'm madly in love with him like he wanted.

I walked closer to him and wrapped my hands around his neck before placing my head on his chest. Then, I raised my eyes up to match his; "Would you please forgive me my love." I asked in a coquettish manner.

I noticed how his body went stiff as I wrapped myself in his arms. He loves it when I'm submissive to him due to his ego but he still gets disgusted by merely a touch from me. He is a really confused man.

Suddenly, I got a feeling that someone was watching me so I looked to my side only to see Amara staring at us with jealousy and anger written all over her face. Andrew must have noticed her presence because he pushed me away aggressively.

"It's fine.. you're forgiven." He stuttered out. His eyes still on Amara. When he realised he couldn't explain anything to her while I was standing there, he excused himself.

"I guess my help isn't needed anymore since you two have finally settled whatever issues you have." She said through gritted teeth as she faked a smile. She's mad, I think I need to make her angrier.

"Yes aunty... Andrew was so sweet that he decided to apologize first. That's enough to show how much he loves me." I said innocently. That last statement infuriated her the more but she hid it with her usual fake smile.

"Don't hesitate to come to me if any other problem comes up. I'm always around to help." She said as she faked a reassuring gaze.

"Don't worry because it isn't happening very soon. If you would excuse me, I'm tired and would like to go take a nap." I said to her before leaving. I didn't fail to catch the angry look on her face and that made me smile.

On my way to the room I shared with Andrew, I decided to go see my father. He was seated comfortably on the bed with a reading glass rested on his nose as he read a file.

"Dad.." I called out, making my presence known. He dropped the file he was reading and walked uo to me.

"What are you doing here Cathy? Aren't you supposed to be res..." His words wer cut short when I suddenly engulfed him in a warm hug. He stiffened for a moment before be hugged me back.

Having a second chance at life was a great blessing to me because in my past life, I was someone you would term as a very bad daughter. After the death of my child, my relationship with my father slowly started to get strained.

I didn't confide in him like I used to since Amara was poisoning my mind like a venomous snake. Even though we lived in the same house, we hardly said a word to each other.

The only time I finally had the guts to get closer to him was when he was sick and laying on his death bed. Remembering that made me feel like I was the most useless daughter in the world.

"I'm so sorry dad." I apologized as tears poured out of my eyes.

"Are you crying?" Dad asked as he pulled away from the hug and stared at me.

"What happened Cathy? Did you have a fight with your husband? What did he do to you?" Seeing him this concerned about me made me feel more bad. What the hell was I thinking when I treated him the way I did? I must be really really stupid.

"I promise to be a better daughter in this life dad." I muttered, my voice shaking tremendously.

"What do you mean by that? You're the best daughter any father would ever ask for. I am really lucky to have you as my daughter." Dad consoled as he wiped my tears with his thumb.

If only dad... if only I'm the person you think I am. But don't worry... I can start now. Dad picked up a tissue from the table and handed it over to me. I collected it and used it to wipe my snot.

"Dad.. I have something to tell you." I announced as I tried to steady my voice so I would sound audible.

"What is it?" He asked me.

"I would like to take back my position in the company." That statement made dad froze for a while before he was finally able to talk.

"What did you just say??"

"I said I would like to go back to the company.." I repeated.

He stared speechlessly at me for a while before his shocked gaze turned into a very happy one. It made me fulfilled to see my father this happy. At that moment, I made a vow to do everything in my power to keep that smile on his face for a long time.
