Chapter 2

My eyes widened at the news.

I couldn’t believe that Harper, the person I’d supported all along, who had been promoted to assistant, had been having an affair with my husband behind my back.

“Ms. Woods, if we don’t start the surgery now, the child’s life will be in danger.”

I smiled woodenly. “Just in time, schedule an abortion for me.”

After returning home from the surgery, feeling the hollowness in my belly, my heart sank.

This child should have been born as my husband and I had hoped.

But now, Rusty had betrayed everything.

He was ecstatic upon learning I was pregnant, shouting with excitement on the streets of Asterum. It was him who promised to treat me and our baby with the utmost care for the rest of our lives. That was why I, already terrified of pregnancy, willingly carried his child.

But now, he was unworthy.

I dispatched a private investigator to fly overnight to the Sirie, where my husband and Harper were.

Looking at the photos the private investigator sent back, my heart sank.

My husband was holding a little girl about three years old in his arms, with Harper smiling brightly as he held her hand by his side.

The Maybach I had given him on our honeymoon to the Sirie was parked quietly there. It wasn’t the only car I’d sent him in the Sirie, but he’d chosen this license plate with a special meaning.

The 520 license plate he’d paid so much for was now glaring.

He’d insisted on getting this license plate, no matter the cost and he’d personally promised that this car would be his exclusive vehicle for picking up his wife.

Now, he was riding in this car with another woman and her child.

My heart ached uncontrollably.

Soon after, my husband took Harper to live in the Sirie water villa I’d bought.

At night, the villa’s smart butler was summoned several times. Having spent our honeymoon there, I naturally knew what this meant.

I suppressed my anger again and called Rusty. It took a long time for the call to connect.

Then I heard Rusty’s faint gasps. “Honey? What’s wrong?”

“Where are you?”

“On a business trip.”

My voice dropped. “Really? But I received a message from the airline about flights to the Sirie. You’re going to the Sirie on a business trip?”

Rusty was visibly taken aback, then a hint of panic.

“Honey, listen to me. I’m here to give you a surprise. You’ve been feeling down these past few days because of your pregnancy, so I thought I’d pick you up after I finished decorating.”

I laughed out loud at his clumsy lie.

“Rusty, have you forgotten that I own this water house?”

As soon as I said that, he unexpectedly got angry. “Sadie, I know you’re angry because I didn’t go to the hospital with you, but we’ve been married for so many years and you’re just speculating about me? Is that how you trust me?!”

Hearing that, I laughed in anger. “Rusty, stop playing the villain and tell Harper that she’s fired. As for you, when you’re done, come back and get a divorce.”

With that, I hung up.

I looked at the DNA report the private investigator had sent me.

When I saw that the child, named Harmony, was 99.99% identical to Harper and Rusty, I quickly jumped out of bed and retched over the toilet.

Rusty and I had been married for two years, yet he and Harper had a three-year-old child.
