Chapter 2

SENNA'S POV

The room was heavy with tension, the air thick with an intensity that hovered between us. I stood there, taking in the sight of Rennon and Paige, feeling the memories of the past flood my mind. But this time, the hurt didn’t consume me. I had already lived through that pain, and I refused to let it control me now.

Before, I was hysterical. I was livid at just the thought of another woman being with my Alpha, but I knew better now.

I drew a slow, deliberate breath, forcing my racing heart to calm. My emotions were a wild storm inside me, but I knew I couldn’t afford to lose control. Not again. The last time I let my anger and despair rule me, it had only driven Rennon further into Paige’s arms. This time, I would play it differently.

Rennon watched me with those familiar eyes, the same eyes that had once looked at me with love. But now, they held a mixture of guilt and resolve, as if he was steeling himself for my reaction. I could see he was waiting for the outburst, the tears, the accusations. I almost laughed at how predictable he was.

But I had changed. I had seen the end of this path and was no longer the same naive woman who had begged and pleaded for his affection. Alpha Rennon didn't deserve it, and frankly, he didn't deserve me. He and Paige were perfect for each other—two deceitful souls bound by their lies. But now wasn't the time to reveal my hand. No, I had something more important to focus on. My original pack, the South River Pack, was my true inheritance, and I had to get it back.

The memory of my parents weighed heavily on me. They had entrusted me with their legacy, asking me to care for the South River Pack and protect my sister, Emery. A bitter pang of guilt twisted in my heart as I thought of Emery—my sweet, loyal sister who had stood by my side when everything fell apart. She had been my shield against Paige’s messy plans, and she had paid the ultimate price for it. Paige had laid the trap, but I had led my sister right into it. Emery had died because of me.

The ache in my chest was almost unbearable, but I forced it down, replacing it with cold determination. I would not let Paige destroy us again. This time, I would protect Emery, and I would reclaim my pack. The South River Pack was rightfully mine, and I would take it back from Rennon's clutches, even if it meant playing this twisted game.

I softened my expression, schooling my features into something gentler. If it was innocence and naivety they wanted, then I would give it to them. I would be the perfect Luna, the picture of grace and acceptance. But beneath that facade, I would be planning and strategizing every move. They wouldn’t see it coming.

Rennon finally broke the silence, his voice careful, almost hesitant. "Senna, I know this is difficult for you. I never wanted to hurt you, but you understand… Paige is my fated mate. I have to accept her. It’s the law of the Moon Goddess."

There it was, that same tired excuse. The law of the Moon Goddess. As if that justified the betrayal as if it erased the vows he had made to me when he chose me as his Luna. But I didn’t let the bitterness show. Instead, I offered him a small, understanding smile, tilting my head as if considering his words carefully.

"Why would I mind?" I said softly, my voice sweet and light. "I'm truly happy for you, Alpha. You’ve found your fated mate. Now you have one more person to take care of you. Paige has had such a tragic past… I’ll do everything I can to make sure she feels welcome and cared for here."

I almost laughed at the look of surprise that flickered across Rennon’s face, quickly followed by confusion. This wasn’t the reaction he had expected, and it threw him off balance. Even Paige, who had been standing meekly by his side, couldn’t hide her shock. Her eyes widened, and I could see the doubt beginning to form in her mind.

Good. Let her wonder. Let her question whether I was truly as forgiving and gracious as I seemed. She would find out soon enough.

Paige, who had been silent until now, finally spoke up, her voice laced with false humility. "Thank you, Luna Senna. I… I promise I’ll do my best to serve this pack and to support Alpha Rennon."

I turned to her, my eyes meeting hers, and I could see the nervousness behind her facade. "Of course, Paige. I’ll make sure you’re well taken care of. After all, it’s my duty as Luna."

I excused myself from the room, my steps measured and calm as I walked away. But as soon as I was out of sight, my expression shifted, the mask of kindness and grace slipping away, replaced by a cold demeanor.

I would take care of Paige, all right. I would take perfect care of her.
