Revenge in the Time of Terminal Illness
Chapter 1
My name was Ramona Poe. I went crazy after my parents used all their savings to buy a house for my younger brother, Jack Poe.
My boss' mistress beat me up, and I slapped her, knocking her to the ground.
My family tried to morally kidnap me, and I took them straight to the police station.
After all, I had been diagnosed with a terminal illness. If I didn't seek revenge now, I wouldn't have a chance.
When the diagnosis report came out, I couldn't believe it. I looked at it over and over again.
It was so weird. I recognized every word on it. But when they were put together, I couldn't understand what they meant.
"Doctor!"
I stumbled into a random department and asked the doctor while clutching the report, not caring about whether there were other patients being treated at all.
"I... What does this mean?"
The doctor was initially angry because of my sudden intrusion, but the moment she saw my diagnosis, there was deep sympathy in her eyes.
She looked at me with pity.
"It's terminal cancer. If there's anything you wanna do, do it."
"Why?"
I couldn't believe it and held my head, crying out loud.
Tears dripped down my cheeks.
After I cried for a while, my nose started bleeding, and I hurriedly used a tissue to stop it.
I'm still so young.
Why me? Why does it have to be me?
Yes! I can be treated! I want treatment.
The doctor shook her head helplessly. My cancer was already in the late stage, and treatment could only prolong my life for a little while.
Besides, the cost of treatment was very expensive, and I couldn't afford it.
Wait. Money. I have money!
I remembered. My parents had my money.
Since I started working, I had kept my salary with my parents except for necessary expenses.
They said they would save it for me and give it back to me when I needed it.
I still had hope!
I quickly picked up the phone and dialed my mom's number.
After a few beeps, the call was hung up, but I didn't give up and continued calling.
I called her countless times. Finally, she picked up.
"You damn girl! Why have you been calling me? What's so urgent?
"Maia cried again. Come back and take care of her!"
Maia Jenkins was the daughter of Gale Poe, my elder sister. Since Gale divorced her ex-husband, she had been living with our parents together with Maia.
Gale was usually busy with work and often not at home. My parents and I had been taking care of Maia.
"Mom, I'm sick.
"How much of my savings are you keeping for me? I need to use it for treatment."
"What savings? What are you talking about?"
My mom's voice was a bit trembling, but soon, she returned to normal.
"Don't make a big fuss. There's no need to see a doctor for such a minor illness. Come back and take care of Maia."
"But..."
Without waiting for me to speak, my mom hurriedly interrupted me.
"Maia is crying again. I'll go and coax her."
"Mom!"
The call was hung up.
I wanted to call back, but my mom had already turned off her phone.
Forget it. I'll go home first.
At the thought of that, I wiped away the tears on my face and walked calmly towards the hospital door, pretending to be calm.
If I had my money, I might live. I carried a little expectation.
My family won't bear to see me die.
I want to survive.
When I returned home, I found that Gale had come back today, which was rare.
She was leisurely sitting on the sofa eating fruits, while my mother was coaxing Maia beside her.
"Maia, you're so sweet. You're the best baby girl in the world!"
My dad held Maia in his arms with a loving face, and he couldn't stop smiling even when he was kicked by Maia's little feet.
What a warm scene!
Yet their expressions all changed when they saw me.
