Chapter 1

When I was three months pregnant, I really craved oranges. So I messaged Ludwig Verhaag, my husband, who worked as a doctor in a hospital, asking him to bring me some after get off work. At 11 p.m., Ludwig finally got home, but his hands were empty.

He realized something was wrong and apologized to me, "I'm sorry, honey, I was busy with surgery today and forgot about the oranges. I'll definitely buy them for you tomorrow, don't be angry, okay?"

Without thinking much of it, I comforted him instead. But while tidying his coat, I suddenly found a strawberry hair clip out of his pocket.

Ludwig awkwardly explained, "My junior colleague really likes this brand of hair clips. She asked me to buy her some when I passed by and she's so insistent on it, so I bought it."

I remember clearly that there was a fruit shop next to the hair clip shop and I loved their oranges.

I suddenly felt tired and calmly said to him, "How about we get a divorce?"

——

Ludwig was taken aback, his face darkening as he asked, "What do you mean?"

I tightened my grip on the hair clip, "You didn't bring me any oranges."

"Just because of that?" The man's face instantly darkened and he wearily pinched the bridge of his nose.

"Suzy, you're almost become a mother, why are you still so clingy and temperamental? Pregnant women are all unreasonable. Make any random fuss if you want, I won't argue with you."

With that, he snatched the hair clip from my hand, grabbed his pillow and went to the study. Watching his back turning on me, a subtle, persistent pain shot through my heart.

That night, through various clues, I finally found Ludwig's junior collague, Whitney Morgan. As well as her Twitter account. Upon opening it, it was filled with posts about her daily life with Ludwig.

The photo showed Ludwig eating the fatty meat she had picked out. He hated wasting food. Even if I occasionally pick out ginger I didn’t like, he would scold me. But with Whitney, his attitude was completely different.

Whitney wrote, [Ludwig is cold on the outside but warm on the inside. Although he complains about me every day, he never skips a lunch with me.]

The photo showed Ludwig examining her breasts. Along with caption stated, [I've been holding in too much anger and stressed out lately and I've even developed breast nodules. Luckily, I have Ludwig.]

And the latest post was updated a minute ago. The photo showed her video calling with Ludwig; she's wearing a bunny girl outfit and shaking her hips. She wrote the caption, [Ludwig was upset by a pregnant woman tonight, but I've already made up with him.]

My heart sank completely. So, behind my back, Ludwig and Whitney had already become this intimate.

The next day. Ludwig, taking a rare day off. He bought large, round oranges early in the morning. He peeled all the oranges and placed them on a plate, then lovingly fed them to me.

"I didn't mean to forget the oranges last night, I was really busy and forgot. I know you're emotionally sensitive during pregnancy and will probably overthink a lot of things. I specially went to buy these oranges this morning; they're all very sweet, I'm sure you'll like them all."

Looking at the plump, delicious oranges in front of me, I only felt nauseous.

Just then, Ludwig's phone rang. The caller ID read, [The Dumbest Person in the World.] It seemed like disdain, but it was actually full of affection.

It turned out to be Whitney. She said something to him and his rarely expressionless face instantly showed panic.

He spoke to me almost in a notification tone, "My junior colleague is being harassed by a patient. She's just a young girl and can't handle this. I have to go see her."

I grabbed his hand, "Is she the only one in the hospital? She could ask someone else for help, or call the police. Why does she have to go to someone else's husband?"
