Chapter 3

The pack investigation panel sat before me, their faces impassive as they reviewed the documents spread across the polished oak table. Alpha Chen presided over the proceedings, his expression carefully neutral as he examined the evidence I'd meticulously prepared.

"Miss Nichols," he began, his voice measured, "these allegations against your pack status are serious. The Lycan Court suggests your father's position may have been... compromised."

I straightened in my chair, my fingers tracing the familiar patterns on the armrest—a habit from my Beta training days. "My father served the Silver Moon Pack with unwavering loyalty for twenty years," I replied, my voice steady despite the outrage simmering beneath. "And I've continued that legacy."

I gestured toward the stack of documents—strategic plans, alliance agreements, and financial records I'd spent three nights compiling. "These are the actual contributions my family has made. Every resource allocation, every strategic counsel, every alliance negotiation."

The panel members exchanged glances as they flipped through the pages. I'd organized everything chronologically, highlighting how each decision had strengthened our pack's position.

"Furthermore," I continued, activating my communication crystal to display a holographic projection, "these are the strategic frameworks I developed under my 'Storm Wolf' identity."

The projection illuminated the room with intricate diagrams—the same ones Zander had referenced in his valedictorian speech. The same ones Paisley had claimed as her own innovations.

"You'll notice the dates," I pointed out, highlighting the timestamps. "Every single one predates any similar work attributed to Paisley Ellis or the Lycan Court."

Elena stepped forward, her presence commanding respect as my former mentor. "I can confirm these are Adelaide's original works. I witnessed their creation."

The investigation continued for hours, but the outcome was becoming increasingly clear. By midday, even the most skeptical panel members were nodding in agreement.

"The evidence is irrefutable," Alpha Chen finally announced. "Not only is Adelaide Nichols cleared of all charges, but we find evidence of political manipulation behind this investigation."

---

Two weeks later, I stood before a crowd of pack leaders and industry experts in the grand exhibition hall of the Silver Moon territory. Behind me, rows of shimmering fabric gleamed under the carefully positioned lighting—my revolutionary "Moon Silk" innovation.

"Ladies and gentlemen," I began, my voice carrying across the hushed room, "today marks a new era in pack economics."

I gestured toward the display, where samples of Moon Silk demonstrated its remarkable properties—stronger than conventional materials yet incredibly lightweight, with a luminescent quality that seemed to capture moonlight itself.

"For generations, our packs have relied on traditional industries," I explained, moving between the exhibits. "But Moon Silk represents not just a new product, but an entirely new approach to pack sustainability."

I demonstrated the fabrication process, highlighting how it utilized resources already abundant in our territories while creating minimal environmental impact. The crowd leaned forward, captivated by both the innovation and my confident presentation.

"Initial projections indicate a thirty percent increase in revenue for participating packs within the first year," I continued, displaying financial models on a holographic screen. "And that's just the beginning."

As I concluded my presentation, the room erupted in applause. Pack leaders approached with offers of partnerships and investments. For the first time since Zander's betrayal, I felt truly powerful—not because of a mate bond or family connections, but because of my own vision and execution.

---

I was reviewing the contracts from the Moon Silk presentation when Elena burst into my office, her expression troubled.

"Adelaide," she said urgently, closing the door behind her. "Paisley's making moves against you."

I set down my pen, my wolf stirring uneasily within me. "What kind of moves?"

"She's spreading rumors," Elena explained, handing me a printed communication. "She's telling everyone who'll listen that you're mentally unstable after the rejection."

I scanned the document, my jaw tightening as I read Paisley's words: "'Poor Adelaide couldn't handle being replaced by a superior mate. Her mind has broken under the strain.'"

"That's not all," Elena continued. "She's claiming your 'Storm Wolf' strategies are actually stolen from royal archives—that you've been fraudulently taking credit for Lycan innovations."

I stood, moving to the window where I could see pack members working in the fields below—pack members who now looked to me for leadership rather than waiting for Zander's return.

"She's scared," I realized aloud. "She sees my influence growing and she's trying to undermine me before the Alpha Summit."

Elena nodded grimly. "The Summit's in three days. If she can discredit you before then..."

I turned back to my desk, a new determination hardening within me. "Then I'll just have to ensure her lies backfire spectacularly."

As I reached for my communication crystal, I caught sight of my reflection in the window glass—straight-backed, clear-eyed, and utterly resolute. The broken mate from three weeks ago was gone. In her place stood someone far more dangerous: a woman with nothing left to lose and everything to prove.
