Chapter 2

I woke with a gasp, my heart hammering against my ribs as the memory of falling—of dying—lingered in my mind. Sunlight streamed through my window, casting golden patterns across the familiar burgundy bedspread. My phone glowed on the nightstand: 7:15 AM, March 15th. Our anniversary.

A second chance.

My wolf stirred within me, stronger and more present than she had ever been before. I could feel her rage, her determination.

*We end this today,* she growled in my mind, her voice clear and fierce.

"Who are you?" I whispered, pressing my palm against my chest where her presence burned hottest.

*I'm Emma,* she replied. *I've always been here, but he kept us weak. Not anymore.*

I slid from the bed, my legs trembling not with fear but with purpose. The knowledge of what would happen today—what had already happened in another timeline—steeled my resolve. No burgundy dress today. No hours spent on makeup to please a man who saw me as nothing but a possession.

Instead, I pulled on jeans and a simple blue sweater, tying my hair back in a practical ponytail. I didn't need to look perfect anymore. I needed to look like myself—whoever that was after three years of molding myself into Alexander's ideal.

"He'll be in his study," I murmured to Emma as I slipped from my room. "He always watches the sunrise from there before important pack events."

The hallways of the Silverfang Pack house were quiet, most members still sleeping or preparing for the day's festivities. My footsteps were nearly silent as I made my way to the eastern wing where Alexander's private study overlooked the territory.

I didn't knock. That small act of defiance sent a thrill through me as I pushed the heavy oak door open.

Alexander stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows, his powerful silhouette outlined by the golden morning light. He turned at my entrance, surprise flickering across his handsome features before his lips curved into that practiced smile—the one that had once made my heart race but now only made my stomach turn.

"Sophia," he said, his voice warm with false affection. "You're up early, pet. Excited for our celebration?"

I met his gaze steadily, drawing strength from Emma's growls echoing in my mind. "There won't be a celebration."

His smile faltered, eyes narrowing slightly. "What do you mean?"

I stepped further into the room, maintaining the distance between us. My wolf urged me to stand tall, shoulders back, chin lifted—not the submissive posture he was accustomed to.

"I know everything, Alexander. About Victoria. About how you've been spreading lies about me to the pack. About how you've been keeping my wolf suppressed."

His expression darkened, a flash of genuine surprise crossing his face before his Alpha mask slipped back into place. "You're confused, Sophia. Perhaps you had a bad dream—"

"No more lies," I cut him off, my voice stronger than it had ever been in his presence. "I, Sophia Martinez of the Moonveil Pack, reject you, Alexander Sterling, Alpha of the Silverfang Pack, as my mate."

The formal words hung in the air between us, heavy with power. Alexander's face contorted with rage, his Alpha aura surging outward like a physical force, pressing against me, trying to make me submit.

"You can't reject me," he snarled, stalking toward me. "You are MINE."

Emma roared within me, pushing back against his aura with newfound strength. I stood my ground, even as he towered over me.

"I just did," I replied, my voice steady despite the trembling in my limbs. "And now I'm going to tell everyone the truth."

Before he could grab me, I turned and walked out, my wolf guiding my steps toward the council chambers where I knew the pack elders would be gathering for their morning meeting.

Alexander's footsteps thundered behind me, but I didn't look back. For the first time in three years, I was walking forward—toward a future that was mine to choose.

The massive doors of the council chamber loomed before me. I pushed them open without hesitation, striding into the circular room where seven elders sat around an ancient wooden table. Their heads turned in unison, expressions ranging from surprise to disapproval at my interruption.

"Elders of the Silverfang Pack," I announced, my voice ringing clear in the vaulted chamber. "I come before you to expose a deception and claim my right to freedom."

Emma howled in triumph within me as I prepared to shatter the lies that had imprisoned us both for far too long.
