Chapter 3

The tension in the pack house was suffocating as I stood dripping wet from the lake, my soaked dress clinging to my skin. Brady's claws remained extended, positioned protectively between Celine and me like I was some rogue threat instead of the woman who'd waited five years for him.

"You've lost your mind," he snarled, his Alpha aura pressing against mine in a way that would have made me submit just yesterday. Today, it felt like nothing more than hot air.

Before I could respond, a new presence entered the pack house grounds—one that made every wolf in the vicinity freeze. The air itself seemed to thicken with predatory power as Cal Mason approached, his ice-blue eyes taking in the scene with calculating precision.

Behind him walked a tall, broad-shouldered man with dark hair and sharp features—Derek Stone, Cal's Beta. The way Derek's gaze swept our territory spoke of military efficiency and strategic assessment.

"Alpha Brady," Cal's voice cut through the morning air like a blade, formal yet carrying an undertone of barely restrained dominance. "I've come to discuss terms."

Brady's head snapped toward the Silvercrest Alpha, his claws retracting slowly. "Terms for what?"

"For claiming what's mine." Cal's eyes found mine across the distance, and I felt it again—that electric pull I'd never experienced with Brady. The true mate bond hummed between us like a live wire.

Celine struggled to her feet, water still dripping from her bedraggled hair. "Brady, who is this man? Why is he here?"

"Cal Mason, Alpha of Silvercrest Pack," Derek announced formally, his voice carrying the authority of a Beta who'd never questioned his Alpha's decisions. "Here to negotiate the immediate mate ceremony between Alpha Cal and Miss Isabelle Ray."

The words hit Brady like a physical blow. His face went pale, then flushed with rage. "Immediate? You can't just waltz onto my territory and—"

"Your territory?" Cal interrupted smoothly, taking a step closer. Even from a distance, I could feel his Alpha presence washing over the gathered pack members, and several of them unconsciously straightened with respect. "Last I checked, you just publicly rejected your mate bond with Miss Ray. That makes her available for claiming."

Marcus Reed emerged from the crowd, his Beta instincts clearly torn between loyalty to Brady and growing concern for pack stability. "Alpha Brady, perhaps we should discuss this privately—"

"No." Brady's voice cracked like a whip. "I won't have my authority questioned on my own land."

Cal smiled then, cold and sharp as winter moonlight. "Your authority? Tell me, Brady, how much authority does an Alpha have when his own pack members question his judgment?"

The accusation hung in the air like a challenge. I watched several pack members exchange glances, their discomfort obvious. Elder Victoria's weathered face was set in disapproving lines as she studied Celine's disheveled appearance.

"My pack stands behind me," Brady declared, but his voice lacked conviction.

"Do they?" Derek stepped forward, his tone respectful but pointed. "Because from what we've observed, your pack seems... divided."

It was true. I could see it in the way some wolves avoided looking at Celine, in the uncertain glances cast between Brady and me, in the tension that had settled over Moonstone Pack like a suffocating blanket.

Cal's gaze swept over the assembled wolves before settling on Brady with predatory focus. "I propose we settle this the traditional way. Alpha to Alpha."

Brady's hands clenched into fists. "You're challenging me?"

"I'm offering you a choice," Cal replied smoothly. "Accept that Isabelle and I will complete our mate ceremony tonight, or we can discuss it after I demonstrate why Silvercrest Pack has never lost a territorial dispute."

The threat was subtle but unmistakable. Around us, pack members held their breath, sensing the dangerous undercurrents flowing between the two Alphas.

Celine grabbed Brady's arm, her voice high with panic. "You can't let him take her! What about us? What about our pup?"

Brady's jaw worked as he stared at Cal, clearly weighing his options. The calculating look in Cal's eyes suggested he'd already considered every possible outcome and prepared for each one.

"The ceremony will be held at sunset," Cal announced, his tone making it clear this wasn't a request. "Miss Ray, I trust you'll be ready?"

I lifted my chin, meeting his gaze with steady determination. "I'll be ready, Alpha Cal."

The formal acknowledgment sent a visible shudder through Brady, while Cal's eyes flashed with satisfaction and something deeper—possessive pride that made my wolf purr with contentment.

For the first time in five years, I felt like I was exactly where I belonged.
