Chapter 2

The pack council chamber fell silent as I was led in, my hands trembling slightly at my sides. Every elder and high-ranking member of Moonridge Pack sat in a semicircle, their faces impassive. Easton occupied the center position, his expression cold and distant. Beside him, Lorelai stood with a satisfied smirk that made my stomach turn.

"Sophia Hall," Easton's voice echoed through the chamber. "You stand accused of treason against Moonridge Pack."

The formal words hit me like physical blows. I lifted my chin, refusing to show weakness. "I've dedicated my life to this pack. I've never betrayed anyone."

Lorelai stepped forward, her movements graceful and calculated. "Then how do you explain these?" She produced a stack of papers—letters supposedly written in my handwriting, detailing pack security measures and patrol schedules.

"I've never seen those before," I said, stepping closer to examine them. The handwriting looked similar to mine but had subtle differences I'd notice if I were writing them.

"They were found in a hollow tree near our northern border," Lorelai continued, her voice dripping with false concern. "Along with these." She held up a small pouch containing dried herbs. "The same herbs you've been gathering for your healing work."

My heart raced. "Those are common healing herbs. Any pack member could have them."

"The rogues who attacked our northern clearing had the same mixture in their possession," Easton said, his eyes hardening. "The attack that killed three of our warriors."

I turned to face him directly. "Easton, you know me. I would never—"

"Silence!" His Alpha command slammed into me, forcing me to my knees. The council chamber spun around me as I fought to breathe through the pressure of his power.

"The evidence is clear," he continued, rising from his seat. "Sophia Hall has betrayed pack secrets to our enemies."

One by one, the council members nodded their agreement. Not a single one spoke in my defense.

"By the power vested in me as Alpha of Moonridge Pack," Easton declared, "I strip you of your Luna title and status."

A searing pain shot through the mark on my neck as he spoke the ritual words. I gasped, clutching at my skin as I felt our mate bond weakening. The magical suppression of my Luna mark burned like acid, leaving me feeling hollow and diminished.

"You are hereby demoted to Omega status," Easton finished, his voice devoid of emotion. "You will serve this pack in whatever capacity we deem fit."

---

The weeks that followed were a blur of humiliation and degradation. Pack members who once bowed to me now looked through me as if I were invisible. Others took pleasure in reminding me of my new status.

"Omega," they would call, their voices carrying across the courtyard. "Come clean the training grounds."

I scrubbed floors until my hands were raw, served meals I wasn't permitted to eat, and endured whispers behind my back. The worst part was watching Lorelai assume my former position—wearing my jewelry, sitting in my chair at pack dinners, sleeping in my bed beside Easton.

"Need help with those dishes?" Lorelai asked one evening, standing in the doorway of the kitchen where I was washing pots. Her voice was sweet, but her eyes were cruel.

"I can manage," I replied, keeping my tone neutral.

"Pity," she sighed dramatically. "I was hoping we could chat about your... adjustment." She leaned against the doorframe. "Easton says you're taking it well. Like a good little Omega."

I said nothing, focusing on the dishes. But in the quiet moments alone, I studied the evidence against me more carefully. The handwriting was close to mine but had telltale differences—the way the letters tilted slightly to the right, while mine were perfectly vertical. The ink was different too, fresher than it should be if the letters had been written weeks ago.

One night, as I was finishing my duties, I heard footsteps approaching. I tensed, expecting another task or insult.

"Sophia?" A familiar voice called softly.

I turned to see my sister Emma standing in the doorway, her expression concerned.

"Emma," I breathed, relief washing over me. "What are you doing here?"

"I heard rumors," she said, glancing nervously over her shoulder. "About what's happening here. I had to see for myself."

She pulled me into a hug, and I nearly broke down in her arms. For the first time in weeks, someone was treating me like a person instead of a servant.

"There's something else," Emma whispered as we separated. "I've been following some scent trails near the border. They lead to places where Lorelai has been meeting with someone."

My pulse quickened. "Rogues?"

She nodded grimly. "And I found this." She pulled out a small communication device—the kind used by pack security teams. "It was hidden near one of their meeting spots. I think she's been coordinating with them."

Hope flickered in my chest for the first time since that fateful day in Easton's office. "We need to show this to Easton."

Emma's expression darkened. "I tried. He refused to see me."
