Chapter 6

The moon was full again.

A cruel reminder of the night I was claimed.

A reminder of the moment my life changed.

I stood at the edge of the forest, staring back at the pack grounds. The lights of the Nightfang Pack's village glowed softly in the distance, like a beacon that had once guided me... and now only reminded me of my rejection.

My heart pounded.

Not from fear.

From determination.

The bond pulsed at the base of my neck, a constant reminder of the connection I could not break.

Kael had claimed me.

And now he was trying to pretend I didn't exist.

But the bond wasn't something that could be ignored.

It didn't matter how much he tried to act like it wasn't there.

It didn't matter how many times he rejected me.

The bond would always pull me back.

And the truth was...

I was tired of being pulled.

I had spent weeks training in the forest.

Weeks becoming stronger.

Weeks learning to survive.

And I had realized something.

If I stayed, I would never become more than a broken piece of someone else's life.

So tonight, I would leave.

Not because I was weak.

Because I was finally brave enough to choose myself.

I took a deep breath and stepped into the shadows.

The forest swallowed me.

The trees were thick and tall, their branches forming a canopy above me. The air smelled like rain and earth. It felt like freedom.

I ran.

I ran until my lungs burned and my legs shook.

I ran until the pack grounds were a memory.

Until the lights were gone.

Until the bond pulsed only faintly, like a distant heartbeat.

I stopped only when I reached a place I recognized.

A small clearing near the river.

A place I had once come to think.

A place where I felt calm.

I leaned against a tree and breathed in the cold night air.

The bond pulsed again.

Stronger.

Like it was trying to drag me back.

I closed my eyes.

And I whispered a name.

"Kael."

The moment the name left my lips, the bond screamed.

Not in pain.

In rage.

In anger.

In a way that made my skin prickle.

I realized then that the bond wasn't just a connection.

It was a leash.

And Kael was holding the other end.

I opened my eyes and stared into the darkness.

A voice whispered in my mind.

A memory.

A warning.

You can run, but you cannot hide from the bond.

I swallowed hard.

And then I made the decision.

I would not run forever.

I would not hide.

I would become strong enough that the bond would no longer control me.

I would become strong enough that Kael would regret rejecting me.

I would become strong enough to return.

I would become strong enough to take back what he stole from me.

The First Time I Felt Real Strength

The weeks that followed were brutal.

I trained every day.

I ran until my body felt like it was going to break.

I fought with the trees.

I practiced controlling my senses.

I learned to hunt.

To survive.

To live alone.

And the bond?

It continued to pulse.

But the more I trained, the less it controlled me.

It became something else.

A reminder.

A connection.

A truth I couldn't ignore.

I began to understand the bond in a way I never had before.

It wasn't just a tie between me and Kael.

It was a link to my own power.

A power I had never learned to use.

A power I had been afraid of.

Now, I wasn't afraid anymore.

I was ready.

I was becoming the woman I should have been from the start.

And the bond was changing.

Not weakening.

But growing stronger in a way I could control.

It was no longer a chain.

It was a force.

A force that could either save me...

or destroy me.

The Night I Saw My Future

One night, while I sat by the river, the bond pulsed violently.

It felt like a shock.

Like something was trying to force its way through me.

I fell to my knees, clutching my chest.

The world blurred.

My vision spun.

And then...

I saw him.

Kael.

Not as he was now.

But as he would be.

Older.

Worn.

Tired.

His eyes were haunted.

And he was standing in the middle of the pack grounds, alone.

The pack was quiet.

Too quiet.

And he was holding his head in his hands like he was in pain.

The vision broke.

I gasped, shaking.

I didn't know what I had seen.

But I knew one thing.

It wasn't a dream.

It was a warning.

Kael was suffering.

And I was the cause.

Not because I wanted to hurt him.

But because the bond was pulling him too.

The bond was screaming for me.

And he couldn't ignore it forever.

The Decision That Changed Everything

The next morning, I stood in the forest and stared at the sky.

The sun was rising, painting the world in gold.

I realized I couldn't stay here forever.

I needed to become stronger.

And I needed to leave the forest behind.

I needed to find a place where I could train properly.

Where I could learn.

Where I could grow.

And where no one knew me.

Where no one could use me.

I had heard rumors of a distant pack that trained their warriors in the mountains.

A pack known for their strength.

For their power.

For their discipline.

I didn't know if the rumors were true.

But I knew one thing.

I had to try.

So I left the forest.

I left the river.

I left everything I had known.

And I began to walk toward my new life.

Toward my new strength.

Toward the woman I was becoming.

Toward the day I would return.
