Chapter 1

The pregnancy test trembled in my hands, two pink lines blazing like beacons of hope against the white plastic. After nine years of waiting, struggling, enduring Luna Elliott's cruel demands and countless failed attempts, I was finally pregnant.

I sank onto the edge of my bed, pressing the test against my chest as tears of pure joy streamed down my face. Tomorrow was our mating ceremony—the day Chase and I would officially bond before the Moon Goddess and the entire Moonstone Pack. And now, just hours before that sacred moment, I carried the future Alpha heir Luna Elliott had demanded.

"Finally," I whispered to the empty room, my voice breaking with emotion. "Finally, we can be complete."

My wolf stirred within me, her silver presence warm with contentment. *Tell our mate,* she urged, her voice soft with happiness. *He needs to know.*

I nodded, wiping my tears as I prepared to mind-link Chase. He was handling last-minute ceremony preparations, but this news couldn't wait. This changed everything—no more of his mother's cold stares, no more whispered doubts about my worthiness as Luna. I had done it. We had done it.

Closing my eyes, I reached out through our mate bond, preparing to share the most joyful moment of our nine-year relationship. But before I could form the words, another voice crashed into my consciousness like a tidal wave of anguish.

*Moon Goddess forgive me, I can't stay silent anymore. What Alpha Chase has done... the herbs he's been taking... I can't be part of this deception any longer.*

The pack healer's mental voice was raw with distress, her thoughts broadcasting across the pack link in her emotional turmoil. My blood turned to ice as her anguished confession continued to pour through the connection.

*Those contraceptive herbs... month after month he's come to me in secret, claiming they were for warriors' mates, but I know the truth. While Luna Mabel suffers, while she blames herself for failing to conceive, he's been preventing it all along. The Moon Goddess knows I should have spoken sooner, but the Alpha commanded my silence. I can't... I can't watch her marry him tomorrow without knowing...*

The pregnancy test slipped from my numb fingers, clattering to the floor. The room spun around me as the healer's words echoed in my mind like a death knell. Contraceptive herbs. Month after month. While I suffered.

My wolf let out a howl of betrayal that reverberated through my soul, her silver light flickering with rage and devastation. *No,* she snarled. *Our mate wouldn't... he couldn't...*

But even as she denied it, I felt the terrible truth settling into my bones like poison. All those nights I'd cried myself to sleep, wondering what was wrong with me. All those moon rituals, herbal treatments, desperate prayers to the Moon Goddess. All those times Chase held me while I sobbed about my "failure" as a mate, whispering reassurances that we would keep trying.

He'd been sabotaging us the entire time.

I grabbed the edge of my dresser, my legs threatening to give out as nausea rolled through me. The irony was suffocating—I'd finally conceived despite his efforts to prevent it, only to discover that our entire relationship was built on lies.

"Nine years," I whispered, my voice hollow. "Nine years of believing in us."

The healer's mental anguish was still bleeding through the pack link, her guilt and moral conflict painting vivid pictures of Chase's deception. Secret visits to her clinic. Lies about needing the herbs for other pack members. Commands to keep silent backed by Alpha authority.

My hands instinctively moved to my still-flat stomach, where new life grew despite his betrayal. The child he'd actively prevented, the heir Luna Elliott demanded, the future Alpha that would secure my position as Luna—it existed only because his contraceptive efforts had finally failed.

The mating ceremony was in less than twenty-four hours. The entire pack would gather to witness our sacred bond, to celebrate the union the Moon Goddess herself had blessed. But how could I stand before her altar knowing what I now knew? How could I accept a mate who had spent years deceiving me about the most fundamental aspect of our relationship?

I picked up the pregnancy test with shaking hands, staring at those two pink lines that had brought such joy only moments before. Now they felt like evidence of his failure rather than our success—proof that even his carefully orchestrated deception couldn't overcome the Moon Goddess's will.

But what did that mean for us? For the ceremony tomorrow? For the life growing inside me?

The healer's mental voice had gone quiet, her confession spent, but the damage was done. Everything I thought I knew about Chase, about our bond, about our future together—it was all crumbling around me like sand.

I needed answers. I needed to look into the healer's eyes and hear the full truth, no matter how much it destroyed me. Because if I was going to face tomorrow's ceremony, I had to know exactly what kind of man I was bound to mate with.

The pregnancy test fell from my fingers again as I reached for my coat, my decision crystallizing with cold clarity. It was time to learn just how deep my fated mate's betrayal truly ran.
