Chapter 1

"I reject the bond," Ethan, my mate, declared—right there at our mating ceremony, in front of the entire pack,as a video played behind him—

a video showing a she-wolf with my face, doing unspeakable things with a group of wolves.

"No, no, Ethan, that’s not me," I whispered, my voice trembling, tears streaming down my face, blurring everything.

What was happening?

Who was that woman?

Ethan took a step back. His expression hardened as murmurs rippled through the crowd.

"To the ceremony clearing. Now." His voice was like ice, sharp and cold, his eyes refusing to meet mine. Each word hit like a physical blow.

Lyra—my wolf—let out a broken whimper and retreated deep inside me. Our dreams… shattered in an instant.

....

I smoothed the delicate white lace of my ceremonial dress, fingers trembling with excitement rather than nerves. The fabric felt cool against my skin, specially designed to shimmer under the full moon's light during tonight's ceremony. Three years of preparation had led to this moment—my official bonding ceremony with Ethan, my fated mate and future Alpha of the Moonstone Pack.

"You look perfect, Luna Violet," whispered Sarah, one of the pack's younger she-wolves who had been helping me prepare. The title still felt strange—not quite mine yet, but soon to be official.

I smiled at my reflection in the ornate silver mirror that had witnessed generations of Luna ceremonies. "Thank you, but I'm not Luna yet."

*But you will be in hours,* Lyra, my wolf, whispered through our bond, her joy radiating through me like sunlight. *We were born for this night.*

I nodded slightly, acknowledging her excitement as I unfolded the small piece of paper containing my ceremonial speech. The words blurred slightly as I blinked back tears of happiness.

"I, Violet Harper, accept the sacred bond with Ethan Miller before the Goddess Moon and the Moonstone Pack..." I practiced, my voice growing stronger with each word.

Lyra hummed with approval, her presence warm and vibrant within me. *Perfect. Our pack will adore you.*

The pack—*my* pack. I had grown up as Alpha Marcus Harper's daughter, beloved by our members, but tonight would transform me from cherished daughter to revered Luna. The responsibility was immense, but with Ethan by my side and Lyra's strength within me, I felt ready.

A soft knock interrupted my thoughts. "Violet, it's time," my father's deep voice called through the door. "The gala has begun."

My heart fluttered as Sarah helped arrange my ceremonial cloak over my shoulders. The silver embroidery caught the light, tiny crescent moons and stars that represented the eternal bond between mates.

"I'm ready," I called back, taking one final glance at my reflection. The woman who stared back seemed transformed—poised, elegant, worthy of leading alongside an Alpha.

The great hall of our pack house had been transformed for the gala that preceded the bonding ceremony. Crystal chandeliers cast a warm glow over the gathered pack members, all dressed in their finest. The air hummed with excitement and the scent of ceremonial herbs burned at the four corners of the room.

Ethan stood tall and handsome across the room, his dark hair combed back, his eyes finding mine immediately. The connection between us pulsed, not yet the complete bond we would share after tonight, but the promise of it made my skin tingle.

*He looks at you like you're the moon itself,* Lyra purred, and I felt myself blush.

My father squeezed my hand before leading me through the crowd. Pack members bowed their heads slightly as I passed—a gesture of respect for their future Luna.

"You make me proud," my father whispered, his voice thick with emotion.

The first hour of the gala passed in a blur of congratulations, traditional dances, and ceremonial toasts. Ethan kept finding excuses to touch me—a hand at the small of my back, fingers intertwined with mine, his lips brushing my temple. Each touch strengthened our connection, a prelude to the full bond we would share after the ceremony.

I was laughing at something Ethan's mother said when I noticed the first ripple of unease move through the crowd. Heads turned toward the large screens mounted on the walls—screens meant to display ceremonial images and pack announcements.

The murmur grew louder, expressions changing from confusion to shock to horror. I turned, following their gaze, and the world stopped.

There on every screen was... me. Or someone with my face. Doing things I had never done. With wolves I had never met.

"What—" The word died in my throat as blood drained from my face.

Lyra howled in confusion and rage within me. *This isn't us! This isn't real!*

The explicit images kept changing, each more degrading than the last. My body in positions that made me want to vomit, my face contorted in expressions I'd never made.

"Violet?" Ethan's voice sounded distant, hollow. When I turned to him, his eyes held something I'd never seen before—disgust.

"It's not me," I whispered, reaching for him. "Ethan, that's not me!"

He stepped back, his face hardening as whispers erupted around us.

"The ceremony clearing. Now," my father commanded, his voice like ice, refusing to meet my eyes.

The ceremonial clearing, where I had imagined exchanging vows of eternal love, now felt like a execution ground. Pack members gathered in a circle, their faces masks of judgment and revulsion. The videos had stopped playing, but their damage was done.

"Ethan Miller, do you wish to proceed with the bonding?" Elder Ashworth asked formally, though the answer was written in Ethan's rigid posture.

"I reject the bond," Ethan stated, using the ancient words that would sever our connection forever. "I reject Violet Harper as my Luna and mate, before the Goddess Moon and the Moonstone Pack."

Each word was a physical blow. Lyra whimpered, retreating deep within me as our dreams shattered.

"Alpha Marcus," Elder Ashworth continued, "as father of the rejected, what say you?"

My father's face was stone, his eyes fixed somewhere above my head. "The Moonstone Pack values honor above all. I, Alpha Marcus Harper, disown Violet Harper. She is no longer my daughter, no longer pack."

The ceremonial clearing spun around me. Disowned. Rejected. In the span of minutes, I had lost everything—my mate, my father, my pack, my home.

I ran. Through the judging faces, past the pack house that was no longer mine, into the forest that had once been my sanctuary. Lyra's voice grew fainter with each step, her howl of anguish fading as I collapsed by the riverbank, alone and broken under the same full moon that should have witnessed my greatest joy.

As the cold water rushed past me, I felt something inside me beginning to fade—Lyra, my wolf, retreating so deep I could barely hear her. And in that moment, I wondered if it might be easier to let her go completely.
