Rejected as Barren, Pregnant with the Alpha King's Twins Novel Cover

Rejected as Barren, Pregnant with the Alpha King's Twins

Silvercrest called me their barren Luna for three years—until Ethan's first love returned with a child she claimed was his. A forged report stripped me of my title, my rooms, my place, and left me to die in the snow. Alpha King Damon found me, and his Blood Moon Curse stilled the instant my blood touched his skin. The truth surfaced: I was never infertile—the medicine I trusted had been poisoning me. I conceived twins with the one man who never demanded I heal him at my own expense. Eight months later, Ethan comes begging for a treaty and finds the woman he discarded crowned Royal Luna.

Chapter 4

"Read the third clause aloud," Ethan said.

The Pack Hall was full before sunrise. Elders filled the semicircle behind the judgment table. Guards stood at every exit. Sophia sat near the front with Oliver asleep against her shoulder, as if the presence of a child could make the proceeding look humane.

I held the rejection document in both hands.

"I, Mia Arden, acknowledge conduct motivated by jealousy toward the recognized heir and waive future claims against Silvercrest medical staff," I read.

I dropped the paper onto the table.

"No."

Elder Grayson frowned. "This language allows both parties to separate without prolonged scandal."

"It also turns medical fraud into my confession."

I removed the printed reagent photographs from my folder and laid them beside the document. "My prescribed fertility tonic contains concentrated silverleaf. The bottle carries Silvercrest inventory code SC-MED-409. I request an independent audit before any rejection is finalized."

Dr. Voss stood from the witness bench. "The bottle could have been altered after leaving the clinic."

"Then produce the dispensary log."

"Archived records are unavailable due to a system failure."

A bitter laugh escaped me. "Of course they are."

I turned to the security technician. "Play the full corridor recording from yesterday."

He stared at the floor. "The original file was corrupted overnight."

"And the five-second gap happened to contain Oliver falling by himself."

Sophia rose, clutching the child closer. "You frightened him. Isn't that enough?"

"No," I said. "Fear is not evidence."

Ethan sat at the center of the table, silent.

That silence told me more than any speech could have.

I stepped closer. "Order the neutral test. One blood panel. One external review. If I am lying, I leave without another word."

Grayson tapped his fingers against the table. "Silvercrest cannot delay succession for the private obsession of a former Luna."

"I am still Ethan's legal mate."

"Not for long," another elder muttered.

I looked at Ethan. "You once told these men you married a mate, not a breeding vessel. Were you lying then, or are you lying now?"

His face hardened. "Do not turn this into theater."

"You brought hundreds of people into a hall to announce the condition of my uterus. You made it theater."

The gallery stirred.

For the first time, Ethan looked ashamed.

It was not enough.

He lifted the rejection blade from the velvet tray.

A narrow silver edge caught the morning light.

"Mia," he said quietly, "if you sign, the financial office will release a settlement and arrange safe transport to the neutral district."

"And if I refuse?"

Grayson answered for him. "The Council will exercise emergency authority and revoke Pack protection."

I looked at the guards. "Safe transport to where?"

No one answered.

I already knew.

I picked up the iron pen.

Sophia exhaled.

Then I struck out every confession clause on the page.

Across the bottom, I wrote: Rejection accepted under protest. Medical fraud allegations preserved. Asset claims preserved. No admission of wrongdoing.

I signed my name.

Ethan stared at the changes.

"Sign it," I said. "If you are so certain I am the problem, finish what you started."

His fingers tightened around the pen.

For one heartbeat, I saw the man who had once stood between me and the elders.

Then he signed.

The mate bond tore.

Pain exploded beneath my sternum. I dropped one hand to the table, refusing to fall. My wolf howled somewhere deep inside me, not from love, but from the violence of being severed from a bond she had trusted.

Ethan flinched too. His hand went to his chest.

He recovered first.

"Mia Arden is no longer Luna of Silvercrest," he announced.

Grayson struck the gavel.

"Pack protection is revoked at noon."

"What about the neutral transport he just promised?" I demanded.

Elias stepped forward with my cardboard box. "A carriage is unavailable. The northern road is blocked by snow. The nearest open crossing is Blackpine."

The lie was almost elegant.

They had found a way to make murder look administrative.

"You cannot send an injured, newly rejected wolf through rogue territory alone," one younger council member objected from the back.

Grayson cut him off. "The former Luna is free to seek shelter anywhere outside Silvercrest."

Ethan would not meet my eyes.

I understood then that waiting for him to become brave again was another form of surrender.

At the outer gate, two guards searched my coat.

One turned every pocket inside out and shook my scarf onto the snow. The other opened the cardboard box and split the bottom seam with a knife, checking beneath the lining. They were not looking for stolen jewelry. They were looking for something small enough to hide.

I had moved the bottle into the hollow lining beneath my boot before the hearing. They found nothing.

Elias returned my phone but kept my Pack token.

"Boundary access ends once you cross," he said.

"I know how exile works."

Snow had begun to fall when the iron gates opened.

Blackpine stretched beyond them, dark and dense beneath a white sky.

Ethan stood beside the boundary stone. Tradition demanded the spoken rejection match the signed record.

His voice was rough when he said, "I, Ethan of Silvercrest, reject you, Mia Arden, as my mate and Luna."

The second wave of pain was worse than the first. My wolf clawed at the hollow space opening in my chest.

I locked my knees.

"I, Mia Arden, accept your rejection."

The last active strand snapped.

My silver Pack token blackened against my wrist.

For one second I swayed.

Ethan moved as if he meant to catch me.

"Ethan," Sophia called from behind him.

He stopped.

That single pause told me everything I still needed to know.

A guard removed the dead token from my skin and dropped it into a metal tray.

"Silvercrest assumes no responsibility beyond the boundary," he said.

I stepped across the engraved stone.

The gates began to close.

I turned once.

For three years, I had slept beside that man. I had stitched his shoulder after battles, learned the rhythm of his breathing, defended him when the elders questioned his leadership.

"If I prove the report was forged," I said, "do not come looking for me."

His face tightened.

"Mia-"

The gates slammed shut.

The locking bolts dropped into place.

I walked into Blackpine alone.

After half a mile, I heard the first set of footsteps behind me.

Then a second.

Then a third, spreading apart through the trees with military precision.

These were not hungry rogues stumbling onto an exile.

They had been waiting for me.
