Chapter 1

Today was Christmas Day. I worked overtime at the company until six o'clock before going home.

I had thought I would see a table full of food when I opened the door. But what greeted me was a deafening noise and garbage and toys all over the floor.

I froze in my tracks, watching all this in disbelief. Was there a thief in my house?

"Brittany, you are finally back. Go and cook. We all are waiting." My father-in-law, Adam Sinclair, was sitting on the sofa playing with David Sinclair, the son of his second son, Brad Sinclair.

"Adam, why are you here?" Next to him were many aunts and uncles, so many that I couldn't recognize them all.

Adam slowly glanced at me. "This is my son's house. Can't I come?"

I frowned, "That's not what I meant. You came too suddenly, and today is Christmas Day..."

"We are here because today is Christmas Day. Stop talking nonsense and go cook."

Next to him, his sister Emma Sinclair said with a smile, "Alexander's wife is really pretty. We are sorry to bother you today. But you are so capable. It's not a big problem."

I smiled reluctantly and looked for my husband, Alexander Sinclair, with a sullen face.

I walked into the bedroom and saw my mother-in-law, Olivia Sinclair, rummaging through my closet.

"Olivia, what are you doing?" I couldn't help but raise my voice and walked over quickly to stop her.

My pajamas were in disarray. There were several children in my room. My sheets were crumpled, and my dresser was messy.

Feeling that my privacy was being violated, I was furious. "What are you doing? Get out of here!"

Olivia seemed to be frightened and said aggrievedly, "Brittany, why are you so loud? I just want to help you clean up and take a look at your bedroom."

The people outside heard the noise and rushed over.

The first one was Alexander, who was wearing an apron. He came over to hug me when he saw me. "Honey, you're back." I glared at him. But before I could ask him what was going on, Adam interrupted me.

"Brittany, are you bullying Olivia? What the hell are you two doing? Let go! You adulterous couple!"

I was shocked. What a terrible old man! It was terrible to be uneducated.

"Adam, what are you talking about? This is my home. I'm hugging my husband. What do you mean by adulterous couple?"

Alexander, who was always timid, also muttered, "That's right. What's wrong with me hugging my wife?"

Olivia coughed a few times, walked in front of us, and glared at Alexander.

"Brittany, don't make a big deal out of it. Adam and I are not well-educated, and it's not easy to raise three children. Today is a good day. Don't make a fuss about it."

"Yeah, Brittany, we're all starving. The baby in my belly can't wait." A woman with a big belly was supported. She was Brad's wife, Ava Sinclair.

The man supporting her was Brad. He said to Alexander, "Alexander, can you let Brittany cook quickly? My wife is still pregnant!"

Before I could say anything, Alexander said, "Your wife is hungry. Why don't you go cook for yourself? You just order my wife around. And I'm doing the cooking, right? You're not diligent, and you just talk."

His voice was neither too loud nor too soft, and everyone could hear it.

Hearing this, Brad blushed. Ava's expression also changed slightly.

Alexander would protect me whenever it came to me, which was why I didn't lose my temper right away.

I didn't want to embarrass Ava, who was also a mother, so I looked at Brad coldly. "Alexander is right. Stop pretending. Today is indeed a good day."

I paused and looked at the mess in the bedroom. Holding back my anger, I said, "As for this, we will talk about it later."

Alexander turned around with me and gasped when he saw this. "Honey, I'm sorry! I didn't notice..."

I glanced at him and said to the kids, "Come out, you guys. Whose children are you?"

Ava waved lazily. "Come here, David. You're always getting in trouble."

A little boy came over, his face covered with traces of makeup.

Soon after, Emma and Olivia's sister, Sophia Johnson, also called their grandchildren over.

Ava patted David's head and said with a smile, "Children are just naughty. Brittany, you won't mind, right?"

Alexander answered before I could, "We don't mind!"

I frowned. But just as Brad and Ava smiled, Alexander said, "The lipstick in David's hand was a gift from me to my wife. It's only two thousand dollars. Brad, just pay me back later."

Then, he pointed at the foundation and perfume in the hands of Emma and Sophia's grandchildren. "Aunt Emma, your grandson is holding a Chanel foundation, which costs more than a thousand dollars. Aunt Sophia, your granddaughter is holding a Maison Francis Kurkdjian perfume..." He paused, his eyes sympathetic. "It's a bit expensive, more than six thousand dollars."

These words shocked them.

"Alexander, are you blackmailing us? These things add up to almost ten thousand dollars?" Ava was the first to lose her temper and shout.

Emma and Sophia also looked horrified.

"Alexander, we have all watched you grow up. It's wrong for you to do that." Emma pressed her lips and looked at Alexander.

Alexander lowered his head, grabbed the corner of my clothes, and said, "Then don't bully my wife."

"You! Adam, look at him! He is so ungrateful!" Emma was angry, and the other aunts were whispering.

Adam looked at the mess and yelled, "Alright! Stop arguing!"

He glanced at me and said, "Buying such expensive cosmetics is simply extravagant!" Then he said in a deep voice, "I'm in charge of this matter. You don't have to pay it back. Brittany, be sensible. This way I won't hold you accountable for spending so much money."

Emma, Sophia, Brad, and Ava all looked happy.

Well, I was so pissed off.

They were so shameless and simply insane.

What would it have to do with them if I had spent my own money?

Adam said he didn't pursue the matter. Did he think he was a lawyer?

My daughter, Ashley Sinclair, and son, Frank Sinclair, ran over and hugged Alexander's legs. "Dad, I'm hungry..."

I rubbed their heads, took a deep breath, and interrupted their compliments to Adam, "I bought expensive things because I deserve them, not because my money was earned for nothing. We all know how you treated Alexander when he was a child. Don't blackmail me morally I'll send you the purchase records later. Otherwise, I'll call the police."
