Chapter 5

"Do you know who I am? Run the name again!" Justin's demand came out ragged with desperation.

The high-pitched scrape of luggage wheels echoed through the VIP corridor of JFK Terminal 4.

"I apologize, sir. The system shows your Sinclair priority access has been permanently revoked," the ground attendant replied, her tone professional but strained.

I kept my pace steady.

"Keep a tight perimeter," I told Marcus.

"Understood, Mrs. Sinclair," he murmured.

I adjusted the lapels of my oversized camel-hair coat. The thick cashmere fell in clean lines, concealing the curve of my five-month pregnancy. Four guards flanked me, their shoes striking the polished floor in unison.

Up ahead, Justin slammed his fist onto the marble check-in counter.

"Run it again! My uncle is Brandon Sinclair. The CEO of the entire corporation. You are making a mistake."

"Sir, please step back from the desk," the attendant said.

Chloe tugged at Justin's wrinkled Gucci blazer. She sat slumped in a standard-issue airport wheelchair, a stark contrast to the luxury she usually demanded. Her face looked sallow, her eyes red-rimmed.

"Brother," Chloe whimpered, her voice trembling just enough to carry down the hall. "Is sister Rosalie still blaming us? Did she make Uncle cancel our access on purpose?"

Justin dropped to one knee. He grabbed her frail hands.

"Don't talk like that, Chloe. She doesn't have that kind of power. She's nobody."

"But it hurts," Chloe sobbed, burying her face in her scarf. "I just want to go home. Why is she punishing me for loving you?"

"She isn't punishing anyone. She is irrelevant to our lives."

I stopped ten feet away.

I reached up and pulled off my oversized Tom Ford sunglasses, folding the frames with a sharp snap.

The noise cut through Chloe's fake tears. Justin's head snapped up.

His bloodshot eyes locked onto mine.

For a fraction of a second, his jaw went slack. His gaze swept over my tailored coat, the pristine blowout of my hair, the undeniable aura of wealth that now surrounded me. The ragged, exhausted man on the floor stared at me like he was seeing an apparition.

Then, the familiar sneer twisted his features. The brief flash of awe vanished, replaced by a defensive, ugly rage.

He pushed himself off the floor and marched straight toward me.

"Back off," Marcus ordered, stepping into his path.

"Stand down, Marcus," I said quietly.

Marcus stepped aside but kept his hand hovering near his waist.

Justin stopped inches from my face. He pointed a shaking index finger right at my nose.

"Rosalie!" he shouted. "Where have you been hiding and wasting time these past three years?"

I didn't blink. I didn't lean away.

"Who gave you the nerve to use the Sinclair family's VIP access?" he demanded, his voice echoing off the glass walls. "Did you beg one of my uncle's assistants for a pass? Are you still trying to stalk me?"

I lowered my gaze to his outstretched hand.

A dull, scratched titanium band sat on his ring finger. The cheap metal looked pathetic against his trembling skin. He had pawned his luxury watches. His cuffs were frayed. The three years of exile had stripped away his fake polish, leaving only the desperate, entitled boy underneath.

"Are you finished?" I asked. My voice sounded bored.

Justin flinched. He expected tears. He expected anger. My total apathy threw him off balance.

"You are a bitter, vindictive woman," he sneered, trying to regain his footing. "You think a fancy coat changes who you are? You are still the same pathetic girl who sold her dead mother's jewelry to buy my attention."

A dry laugh escaped me.

Justin's eyes widened. "What is so funny?"

"Your memory," I replied, smoothing my leather gloves. "You always did rewrite history to suit your narrative."

"You are tracking my flights. You showed up here to gloat."

"You flatter yourself, Justin. I am catching a flight. You just happen to be blocking my terminal."

Chloe wheeled herself closer. Her hands gripped the armrests tightly.

"Rosalie, please," she begged, looking up at me with wide, tear-filled eyes. "If you are angry, take it out on me. Don't humiliate Justin. We just need to get to the hospital."

"I do not care where you go," I told her, my tone flat.

"You are so cruel!" Chloe cried out, burying her face in her hands. "I am dying, and you are standing there mocking us."

"Nobody is mocking you, Chloe. I am simply ignoring you."

Justin stepped in front of her wheelchair, shielding her from me.

"Tell them to let us through!" Justin ordered. "Tell the staff you made a mistake. Fix this."

"I do not fix your mistakes anymore, Justin. I stopped doing that three years ago."

"You owe me," he hissed, stepping closer again.

"I owe you nothing."

"You ruined my wedding!"

"You abandoned your bride," I corrected him. "You made your choice. Now you get to live with it."

"I will call Uncle Brandon," Justin threatened, pulling a cracked smartphone from his pocket. "When he finds out you are parading around the VIP terminals pretending to be a Sinclair, he will destroy you."

"Call him," I challenged.

Justin's thumb hovered over the screen. He hesitated.

"You think I won't?"

"I think you don't have his new private number."

Justin's face flushed a deep, ugly red. "He is my family. You are a discarded piece of trash."

"Is that why your accounts hit zero at midnight?" I asked.

Justin went pale. His phone slipped, nearly hitting the floor before he caught it.

"How do you know about that?" he whispered.

"I know everything, Justin. I know you drained the offshore shell companies. I know you filed an emergency proxy request."

"You hacked my accounts."

"I did not have to hack anything. You are painfully predictable."

Chloe looked up, panic flashing across her pale features. "Brother? What does she mean the accounts hit zero? How are we paying for the clinic?"

"Shut up, Chloe!" Justin snapped.

Chloe recoiled, shrinking back into the wheelchair.

Justin turned his furious glare back on me. "You did this. You poisoned my uncle against me. You told him lies to cut off my funding."

"I told him the truth. I handed him the ledger of every patent you stole."

"Pay for her treatment," Justin demanded, ignoring my accusation. "You owe us that much."

"I am not a charity."

"Sister Rosalie, I know you hate me because Justin chose me," Chloe interrupted, her voice gaining a desperate edge. "But I am dying. Have some mercy."

"Your illness is a tragedy, Chloe. Your personality is a choice. I have no time for either."

"You lying bitch," Justin growled.

He lunged forward, reaching for my arm.

Marcus intercepted him seamlessly, shoving him back hard. Justin stumbled, his cheap shoes skidding on the polished floor. He crashed into the check-in counter, knocking over a velvet stanchion.

"Don't touch her," Marcus warned, his voice a low growl.

The ground attendant picked up her desk phone. "Security to Terminal 4 VIP entrance. We have a hostile passenger."

Justin scrambled upright, his chest heaving. "You think you won, Rosalie? You think you can steal my family's money and walk away? I am the Sinclair heir!"

"You are a bankrupt exile," I replied.

I didn't even look back at Justin. I adjusted my sunglasses, sliding them back onto my face. The tint blocked out his pathetic, desperate expression.

I turned my head toward Marcus.

"We are going to miss the boarding window," I said.

"Right away, ma'am."

I didn't stop walking. I didn't break my stride.

"Clear this irrelevant person yelling in public out of my private channel," I instructed Marcus.
