Chapter 2

Vicky Is Pregnant

"You're going to be a father!"

I stared at the pregnancy test in bewilderment.

"Is… Is this real?"

Vicky chuckled at my reaction and wrapped her arms around my neck as she asked if I was happy or not.

When I realized my reaction was a bit off, I quickly explained to her that I was just overwhelmed by the surprise. To smooth things over, I asked what gift she wanted.

Vicky smiled and said meaningfully, "I don't need anything. All I want is for you to love me and our child forever." Then, she playfully poked my lower region, which reacted immediately.

However, I couldn't do anything since Vicky was pregnant. Thus, I tapped her nose and headed to the bathroom for a cold shower. When I came out, Vicky was scrolling on her phone while muttering about all the precautions we needed to start taking.

I figured we should focus on the basics first, so I suggested we visit the hospital to check how far along she was and to make sure the baby was healthy.

Vicky agreed after hearing my words. She curled up against me and joked about how pregnancy was already making her feel scatterbrained.

"It's a good thing our baby has such a smart dad," she said.

The next morning, we went to the hospital. After a blood test, the doctor confirmed she was four weeks pregnant. Vicky was overjoyed and bombarded the doctor with questions about pregnancy while I stood beside them in silence.

When we left the hospital, her mood shifted drastically.

"Shawn, do you not want this baby?"

I was shocked by her words and quickly denied it.

"How could I not want our baby after all these years of waiting?"

"Then, why didn't you seem to care just now?"

When I heard her words, I realized she was upset about my earlier indifference. Thus, I hurriedly explained myself and offered all kinds of reassurance until she finally brightened up.

On our way to the car, Vicky returned to her playful self as she insisted on sitting on my lap instead of the passenger seat. As she teased me, she looked satisfied as she watched me squirm under her touch.

I stared at her and couldn't help but say, "Do you think I won't do anything to you right now?"

Vicky's eyes widened, and she reminded me, "The doctor said we can't… At least not right now…"

Although she said so, her eyes twinkled mischievously. However, I knew better than to let my desire get a hold of me. I knew that I had to wait until the baby was a few months older.

And frankly, I didn't want to.

After I dropped her off at home, I made up an excuse about needing to check in on some urgent work. Vicky seemed a bit annoyed but didn't ask too many questions since she knew how unpredictable construction projects could be.

Then, instead of going to work, I drove straight to a private clinic owned by my childhood friend, Jack Zenith.

When Jack saw me, he raised an eyebrow and whistled.

However, I wasn't in the mood for jokes and went straight to the point. "Jack, you've got to help me. Can you check if I still can fertilize someone?"

Hearing my words, Jack was dumbfounded.

"I thought you were dead set on not having kids? Besides, you'd need to do a proper exam after surgery to find out."

Although it was embarrassing to tell him the truth, I couldn't hold back anymore, at least not in front of my best friend.

"Vicky is pregnant, and I doubt that child is mine."

Jack looked even more shocked as his mouth went agape.

Then, I followed him into the examination room.

After we ran some tests, the results were clear. I had no sperm at all.

As expected, that child wasn't mine.
