Chapter 1

I decided to get married on a whim and abandoned my boyfriend of seven years.

It all started because my boyfriend’s childhood sweetheart had never seen anyone suffer from eating mustard.

He secretly added a lot of mustard into my cake.

When I noticed something was wrong, I chugged some milk.

But it turned out the milk was also laced with mustard.

I made a fool of myself, while he and his childhood sweetheart laughed uncontrollably.

“Haha, you're about to cry! I’m going to take a picture for the memories.”

I hadn’t returned to the apartment for three days.

After the mustard incident, I agreed to my mother’s suggestion of an arranged marriage.

“Mom, let’s set the wedding for next month, right around my birthday. We can do it all at once, much simpler that way.”

My mom grinned from ear to ear. “That’s the spirit! Don’t worry, the man I’ve found for you is a thousand times better than that useless Kieran Fairfax. Seven wasted years? Think of it as paying tuition. Let it go.”

Yeah, I had loved Kieran for seven years, lived with him for seven years, but he never once officially acknowledged our relationship.

Even when his parents invited him to spend Christmas with them and asked him to bring his girlfriend, he made up an excuse about not having a girlfriend.

That evening, I hired a moving company to pack my things and take them back to the apartment.

As I looked around at everything I was leaving behind, I suddenly felt a pang of regret for the seven years I had wasted on someone who wasn’t worth it.

“What are you doing? Who told you to move things out?”

The moment Kieran returned, he shouted at the movers. Seeing me packing up, he stormed over.

“Yara, what the hell is this? You know I don’t like strangers in the house.”

I replied calmly, “I’m getting married.”

Kieran was stunned.

“Married? Yara, don’t be ridiculous, the timing’s not right.”

I knew he wanted to try and convince me to wait, but just then, his phone rang.

A woman’s weak voice came through the line.

“Waaah, Kieran, my car got rear-ended, what should I do?”

I recognized that voice—it was Kieran’s childhood sweetheart, Nadia Langley.

Kieran’s hand trembled as he answered, barely able to control his breath. “Are you hurt? Send me your location, I’ll come right now.”

Before he even finished speaking, he was already rushing out the door, completely forgetting what we’d just discussed about marriage.

Watching his hurried figure disappear, I felt nothing but calm.

Leaving like this works, too—no need for explanations.

After everything was loaded into the car, it hit me—where was I going to take all this stuff?

When my family had opposed my relationship with Kieran, I had moved to his city alone, spending seven years with him.

Just then, my cousin Beatrice texted, asking me to meet at a café.

Beatrice was genuinely sorry when she heard about the breakup.

“Yara, you guys were together for seven years—aren’t you sad to end it like this? If you marry someone you don’t love, you’ll regret it for the rest of your life.”

I gave a careless smile. “No, not at all.”

Beatrice, seeing the lifeless look in my eyes, assumed I had been greatly wronged and wanted to defend me.

“Tell me, did that jerk Kieran bully you? I’ll take care of him for you right now.”

I declined her offer. “No, I’m fine now.”

Beatrice gently took my hand. “You can’t force something that isn’t right. Our Yara is so wonderful—Kieran will regret it one day.”

Whether Kieran will regret it, I don’t know, but looking at my still-unpacked things, I regretted not throwing them all away.

After finishing my coffee, I planned to stay at Beatrice’s place for a few days.

But as I walked out, I saw Kieran strolling towards me, humming a tune while carrying Nadia on his back.
