9.6 / 10.0
When Jane Wensley scores an abysmal 280 on her SATs, she still demands a $32,000 reward to match her peers. Her mother, Monica, eagerly backs this absurd request, expecting her son Jamar and his wife to foot the bill for both the cash and a lavish party. Refusing to be a financial scapegoat, Jamar's wife confronts Jane over her academic failure. Driven to a tantrum, Jane climbs to the rooftop, threatening to jump. Instead of backing down, the protagonist boldly calls her bluff.

Powerful Revenge: Never Tolerate Unreasonable Demands Chapter 1

Jane Wensley, my sister-in-law, scored 280 points on the SAT, but she wanted us to reward her with 32,000 dollars.

The reason was that all her classmates had it, and she couldn't fall behind.

Even Monica Wensley, my mother-in-law, supported her and even wanted to hold a grand celebration, but Monica wanted me and my husband, Jamar Wensley, to pay for it.

What a joke! Monica loved her daughter and wanted me to pay.

I directly confronted Jane.

"Others are admitted to Harvard University or Massachusetts Institute of Technology; Are you really struggling that much? Even getting into a vocational college seems like a long shot for you?"

Jane got angry and threatened me by climbing to the rooftop.

"Haha, am I scared?" I thought.

I said, "If you dare to jump, I'll spend $32,000 on a fine resting place for you. Dare you?"

Jane only scored 280 points on the SAT and couldn't even get into a good vocational college, but she asked for a 32,000-dollar SAT reward.

"I've been studying hard for more than ten years; isn't this money worth it?"

I silently rolled my eyes. 280 points? It really wasn't worth it. I recalled scoring 600 points myself.

But Monica looked at her daughter with love.

"Certainly, it's worth it. My daughter is worth not just a reward of 32,000 dollars, but even 80,000 dollars if that's what it takes," she said.

I didn't want to listen anymore. I didn't know what they were proud of with such a low score.

Jane was happy to hear Monica say that.

"Then Mom, when are you going to give me the money? I've already picked out many things to buy, and my classmates have already bought them."

Monica smiled kindly at me.

"Tiffany, Jane has finally finished the SAT after much hard work. You, as her sister-in-law, should also show some appreciation."

"Haha, is this trying to make me a scapegoat? I'm just rich, I'm not stupid." I thought.

I quickly sat further away from her and nodded, "You are right; I remember Jamar told me that he got into a top university, and you gave him 100 dollars as a reward. So, Jane, I'll give you 100 dollars too."

When Jane heard 100 dollars, she flew into a rage, stomped her foot, and said, "Mom, what can I do with 100 dollars? I can't even buy a set of cosmetics. No, I cannot accept it."

Monica's face didn't look good either, and she said, "Jamar is a boy, and he graduated a few years ago. Most importantly, I didn't have any money at that time. Even giving him 100 dollars was difficult at that time."

I kept silent, waiting for her to continue. My husband took the STA just a few years ago. Regardless of how much the prices have escalated, there's no justification for it to jump from 100 to 32,000.

Sure enough, Monica showed no intention of stopping.

"I really had no way back then. You are different now. Look at this big house you live in. Your monthly pocket money is tens of thousands. Giving Jane 32,000 dollars is just a matter of a word from you," she said.

"Exactly," Jane said, "Just tap your finger twice and hand it over. Don't drag it out; why be so stingy?"

"Hehe, this mother and daughter really know how to scheme." I thought.

Unfortunately, I didn't have any other strengths, but I had a strong will. Whatever I promised, I would deliver.

I took out 100 cash from my wallet and handed it to Jane.

"Take it and buy whatever you want with it."

Jane was so angry that she threw my 100 dollars on the ground.

"Who do you think you are looking down on? I asked for 32,000 dollars, and you only gave me 100 dollars. Are you trying to humiliate me? "

"Don't say she's not smart during exams; she's actually quite clever now. I'm just humiliating her." I thought.

"Which one of my classmates doesn't have a reward worth over $16,000? They've got it all now—Apple products, trips, concerts. I need money, and yet I have to consider your feelings. Why should I have to compromise on that?"

"Furthermore, all the money you have is earned by my brother. You don't seem to contribute much daily, spending most of your time at home. It feels like you're relying heavily on my brother's efforts. My mother and I haven't said anything to you about it, but don't you realize how this might be perceived?"

"Ha, it's ironic how she eats under my roof and lives in my house, yet she still finds something to criticize about me. She's truly an unappreciative guest. Today, I'll make it clear who holds the reins in this household." I thought.

I silently picked up the 100 dollars on the ground, blew on it, and put it back in my wallet. Although it's not much, I earned money through hard work.

"Since you look down on this, then you won't take any of it."

Jane completely lost her mind. She grabbed Monica's arm and shook it desperately.

"Mom, will you just watch her bully me like this? Am I still your daughter? Aren't you going to help me?" said Jane.

Monica's face turned pale, and she quickly tried to calm Jane down, and said, "Don't worry, I will speak."

She turned her head and reprimanded me sternly, "Tiffany, as the eldest sister-in-law, you are expected to set an example. According to tradition, the eldest sister-in-law is often seen as a surrogate mother figure. It's your responsibility to look after your younger sister's financial well-being. And if she's willing to accept your help, it signifies her recognition of your role as the eldest among us. This is giving you respect; do you understand? Don't be shameless."

Her words made me angry, and I said, "I don't really need you to give me respect. Jane, you are 18 years old and have grown up. Don't stay in my house anymore. Now, pack up and leave immediately."

Monica and Jane didn't expect me to be so ruthless and directly start a fight. Jane immediately burst into tears.

"Mom, this is ridiculous. Does she seriously want me to leave? This is my brother's house too; shouldn't I be able to live here?" she exclaimed to her mother before turning to me. "I'm going to call my brother right now. When he gets back, we'll see who ends up leaving this house," she added.
