Chapter 2

I rushed back home. My mom, Susan Carter, had just sent me a text, complaining that I hadn't discussed my marriage with her when it was such a big deal.

On the couch, a woman with green hair patted my mom's back with a smile.

My mom seemed unwell and couldn't stop coughing.

I grabbed Chelsea's hand right away, and she was about to start cursing.

As soon as she saw me, she wore a meek look and stepped forward shyly. "Darling, you're finally home."

I ignored her and patted my mom's back, my gaze cold. "How did you get here? Miss, get out of my house now."

Chelsea widened her eyes, as if she had heard something shocking.

She grinned confidently and revealed her shoulder, and I could see some red marks on it.

"Darling, what are you even saying? I know. You think I should've come earlier, right?"

She pulled my mom over and held her hand. "Mom, when can Nicholas and I get married? My parents are ready. We won't ask for a lot of gifts."

She looked around the villa and seemed satisfied.

"This house is pretty good, but it's a bit small. Mom, you should move out after Nicholas and I get married.

"You're old. It isn't nice to keep staying with your own son."

Chelsea made all the arrangements for the rooms at home. We didn't even have a chance to speak.

"I don't even know you. If you insist on staying here, then don't blame me," I warned.

I demanded that she get out of my house, but she didn't even take my words seriously.

She held my mom's hand and said sweetly, "Mom, look at him. We haven't gotten married, but he's lashing out at me like this."

My mom shook her hand off, her voice cold. "Miss, you've been saying that you're marrying my son since you came in. But he said he doesn't even know you."

The awkward look on Chelsea's face vanished as soon as she heard that.

She put both hands on her hips smugly and recounted how fate had brought us together.

I finally recalled that some time ago, I had seen a woman with her head lowered. She was scrolling on her phone while I was crossing the road. She didn't realize that the traffic light had turned red.

Just as the car sped toward her, I swiftly pulled her aside and saved her life.

I remembered that she fell to the ground and called me a pervert. She thought I only saved her to get her attention.

At that time, I wanted to explain myself, but Chelsea hit my head with her bag. She kept shouting and asking the passersby to stand up for her.

Someone tried to explain to her, but she thought they were in cahoots with me and had ulterior motives.

She was certain that I had other intentions.

Just then, my driver arrived and pulled over at the roadside. I paid no heed to her and left right away.

But now, she was expressing her gratitude in tears, saying that she could only repay me with herself.

The corner of my mouth twitched slightly. I could still remember how she had insulted me. She called me a fool and said she would never love me.

"Now I finally remember." I finally came to a realization. Chelsea was overjoyed, and she kept clutching one of my mom's ceramic collections.

"All these things are worthless. I'll sell them off for Mom tomorrow," she said.

I caught sight of the joyous look that flashed in her eyes. "You damaged my suit. It was a customized suit that cost 500,000 dollars. How do you plan to pay me back?"

The smile on Chelsea's face froze, and she teased, "Darling, are you kidding me? We're family. Why are you so calculating over something like this?"

The guards who rushed over stood behind me. Then, they stepped forward to hold Chelsea's arms.

"Women should have some self-respect. Don't just call anyone your husband. You should take a look at yourself before you judge others."

Chelsea couldn't keep her cool anymore. She kept struggling to free herself from the guards' grip. "I'm repaying your kindness with myself. Stop joking with me."

Disgusted, my mom threw away the cup Chelsea had just used and mumbled.

Chelsea had suddenly shown up at my place, so my mom had poured a glass of water for her.

However, she chided my mom, saying that my mom looked down on her because she came from a poor family.

My family was well-off, but we only served her a glass of plain water. She thought we wouldn't share our assets with her even after I married her.

I had to say that she was really confident.
