Parting Ways After Not Falling In Love
Chapter 3
"Jack, go with her. I can do it alone."
Having said that, Jennifer left alone with a lost look on her face.
Her look made Jack feel very distressed.
He shook off my hand and said coldly.
"Even if you are jealous, there should be a limit. You curse my mother. My mother has loved you for so many years. You are not worthy of being her daughter-in-law!"
After saying that, he took Jennifer into the car and sped away.
Watching the car leaving, I collapsed to the ground in despair.
At this time, the hospital called me.
"Ms. Jones, please come to the hospital quickly to see the patient for the last time..."
I hung up the phone and rushed to the hospital like crazy.
When I arrived, Elysia was already dying.
She struggled to open her eyes and looked behind me.
She tried to find Jack.
But Jack didn't come.
He was accompanying Jennifer to bury the dog.
I hate Jack's indifference and I also hate my incompetence.
I watched Elysia's expression change from expectation to disappointment.
My heart ached. I knelt down in front of Elysia with tears.
"I'm sorry, Elysia. I'm useless. I..."
Elysia moved her lips and smiled bitterly.
It seemed as if she had guessed what had happened.
She shed tears.
Elysia looked at me and said weakly, "It's not your fault, Laura. It's my fault. I didn't teach my son well and let you suffer."
After saying that, Elysia wanted to reach out to wipe my tears, but as soon as she raised her hand, it fell down weakly.
She didn't move anymore.
I saw that Elysia's electrocardiogram had become a straight line.
I threw myself on Elysia and broke down crying.
I cried until my voice became hoarse and I almost fainted, and then I gradually calmed down.
I call Jack again.
But his cell phone was always turned off.
I was heartbroken and handled Elysia's funeral by myself.
I watched Elysia turn from a human being to white ash.
My heart ached.
I didn't understand. Elysia had been kind all her life, so how could she had a stupid, ungrateful son like Jack?
What did she do wrong that God wanted to turn her birthday into a death anniversary?
After dealing with Elysia's funeral, I returned home.
I sat in the living room, looking at the amiable face of Elysia in the portrait, and couldn't stop crying.
Elysia was kind and had always treated me very well.
She said that when she was young, her mother-in-law made things difficult for her in every way and her life was miserable.
She knew how difficult it was to be a daughter-in-law.
Therefore, she hoped that I could be happy.
This was so warm for me after my parents died when I was young.
Therefore, my relationship with Elysia had always been very good.
I found it hard to accept her death.
I couldn't forgive Jack's ruthlessness.
For three whole days, Jack did not show up.
He seemed to have forgotten his family.
He only cared Jennifer and Jennifer's dead pet dog.
Three days later, Jack finally returned home.
When he saw me, he explained with a guilty conscience, "Jennifer had always raised Peter as her own son. Peter's death was a big blow to her, so I stayed with her for two more days."
After saying that, he turned around and called out naturally, "Mom, cook me a sandwich. I..."
Jack's voice stopped abruptly. His pupils shrank, and he stared at Elysia's portrait on the wall.
"What's going on?"
