In the hospital, Megan stared blankly at the doctor as he delivered the devastating news in a deliberate tone, “The physical trauma was too severe, resulting in a miscarriage. And you must prepare yourself for the possibility that you may never be able to conceive again.”

It was like a bolt from the blue. Megan thought she was hallucinating as confusion painted her gaunt, pale face. “What... what did you say?”

The doctor, anticipating her shock, sighed inwardly and repeated his diagnosis.

Megan felt as if a bucket of ice water had been dumped over her head in the dead of winter, chilling her to the bone.

She had never imagined herself in this dire state, childless, with no hope of motherhood in the future.

The thought of losing even the slightest hope of nurturing a life because of Lucian, the very architect of her misery, made it hard for her to breathe.

As she was engulfed by these thoughts, the door to her room swung open again, and Lucian entered.

His presence was striking – deep-set blue eyes, a high nose, enough to make any nurse’s heart flutter.

Lucian Graham, the celebrated movie star.

Why is he here? Could the rumors actually be true? The nurse’s mind raced with these thoughts, but she managed to keep her composure.

With a wave of his hand, the doctor nodded to Lucian and exited, leaving only Lucian and Megan in the room.

Facing the man she had loved for so many years, Megan couldn’t help but seek an answer, “Lucian, was it really you who did this to my child?”

Lucian’s cold gaze swept over her, a smirk breaking across his face.

“What do you think, Megan? Don’t kid yourself. I made sure that problem was taken care of. You? Carrying my child? Please, don’t flatter yourself.”

Each word was a knife twisting in her heart.

The unimaginable had become reality, rendering Megan’s face a ghastly pale.

Her already thin hands clenched white; it looked as if she might leap up and tear into Lucian.

As they locked eyes, filled with hatred, Lucian looked down on her with icy disdain. “What do you want, Megan? Did you think you could forget your place just because I’ve indulged you lately?”

Her place – the words woke Megan up. Yes, her place...

Her hair unkempt, she hadn’t quite recovered from her scattered thoughts when a nurse’s shout startled her, “What are you doing here? You’re not allowed in!”

Before the nurse could protest further, the room was flooded with the noise of a swarm of reporters barging in.

The sight of Lucian and Megan together was like a feast to starving hounds.

“Ms. Campbell, is it true that the child was Mr. Graham’s?”

“Ms. Campbell, what is your relationship with Mr. Graham? Are you really being kept by him?”

“Are you two married?”

Megan clutched her head as the reporters stormed in like a pack of wolves, triggering memories that cut to the bone.

In a shocking turn, she slapped a reporter across the face, then shoved him away; the cameraman behind him fell in a domino effect.

A collective gasp filled the room.

“Get the fuck out!”

Megan, already frail, looked wild-eyed and frenzied enough to instill fear.

Everyone glanced at her warily; after all, this woman was known to be unhinged. The reporter she slapped harbored a vengeful glint in his eye, knowing just how to spin the story.

Once the room cleared, Lucian, who had been watching silently, finally spoke, “Your reputation is completely ruined now. Are you happy?”

Megan, with nothing left to lose, knew all too well who orchestrated her downfall. She shook her head.

“Good,” Lucian seemed pleased. “Just don’t beg for mercy later.”

Hearing the ominous undertone in Lucian’s voice, Megan had a sinking feeling about what was to come, but she knew she could only brace herself and endure.

Megan’s miscarriage news was leaked by her assistant, and it was clear to anyone with eyes that it was a deliberate attempt to sabotage her. Yet, in the merciless world of showbiz, where Megan had no real power or influence, the fact that others chose to remain neutral instead of kicking her while she was down was considered a form of care.

However, her talent agency was not about to let her off the hook. Shortly after she was discharged from the hospital, her agent called.

“The senior executive is very displeased with you, and I can’t protect you anymore. If you want to keep your job, meet him at the Celestial City Hotel at 8 tonight to make it up for him.”

Before Megan could respond, the call was abruptly ended, leaving her stunned in place.

She knew she had no choice but to go; otherwise, the company would surely demand a hefty penalty fee. But she was broke, penniless – where would she find the money to pay?

Now, she could only hope her tolerance for alcohol would hold up long enough to thwart their plans.

At 8 p.m., Megan arrived wearing a simple white dress, her face bare of makeup.

Yet, even unadorned, her natural beauty was striking enough to turn heads.

When the so-called senior executive saw Megan, his eyes practically popped out, his excitement causing his chubby cheeks to tremble.

As Megan approached the repulsive, greasy old man, she stiffened slightly but forced herself to appear submissive.

Pleased with her compliant demeanor, the man nodded approvingly and then broke the ice with a sleazy invitation. “Ah, you must be Megan. Indeed as lovely as I’ve heard. Come, sit by my side.”

Her agent discreetly nudged her forward. Megan stumbled slightly before sitting next to the man who immediately grabbed her smooth, pale hand with his clammy one, his tiny eyes nearly disappearing into his fleshy face as he leered at her.

Holding hands with such a man was revolting, and it took all of Megan’s willpower to suppress her disgust.

Before she could speak, the room was disrupted by noise from outside. Soon, Lucian’s tall, imposing figure appeared.

In public, Lucian always had a charming demeanor, and this occasion was no exception.

“I heard Mr. Waston was here and took the liberty of stopping by,” he said smoothly.

Everyone’s attention was captured by Lucian.

After all, as a famous actor and the head of the largest entertainment company in the industry, affiliating with him was a coveted opportunity.

The atmosphere shifted as Waston, ignoring Megan, now stood to greet Lucian with fake enthusiasm, “I didn’t expect to run into Mr. Graham here. What serendipity! Would you honor me with a drink?”

Lucian’s blue eyes flickered darkly before he smiled thinly. “Of course, how could I refuse?”

As they exchanged pleasantries, Megan buried her head deep, pretending not to see Lucian.

Meanwhile, Lucian casually chatted with the others, all the while observing the awkwardness of Megan, unable to free her hand from Waston’s grip.

After chatting for a while, Waston, initially wary of Lucian, began to notice that Lucian didn’t object to his behavior. This emboldened him, and his touches grew increasingly bold and unrestrained.

Megan bit her lip until it bled, knowing she had to endure or face a massive penalty fee she couldn’t possibly afford.

Yet, being degraded in such a manner made her whole body shake with rage.

Waston’s groping became more frantic, his eyes reddening, until he finally couldn’t hold back any longer and said, “I’m taking Megan back now. You go ahead.”

The other men, understanding the implication all too well, exchanged knowing looks.

Megan was pale as death, understanding all too well what would happen if she left with Waston.

She really didn’t want to go.

When he pulled her, she resisted desperately.

Despite her resistance, Waston’s face remained amiably smug, though a flicker of annoyance passed through his eyes.

He leaned close and whispered in her ear, “Do you think anyone else would save you in this situation? Be good, and you’ll live a life of luxury. Understand?”

His corpulent figure loomed over her, his breath hot against her ear.

Megan’s heart raced; she couldn’t bear the thought of her life being destroyed by this man.

As she glanced at Lucian, who seemed utterly indifferent, she swallowed her pride and pleaded for his help, “Lucian... please, save me...”

Waston’s actions froze as he looked towards Lucian.

Lucian finished his drink, then feigned surprise as he realized everyone was watching him.

He set down his glass and addressed Waston, “Since I’ve finished my drink, I suppose I’ll take my leave now. Let’s catch up another day, Mr. Waston.”

Catching the implication in his words, Waston brightened up with a smile, nodding enthusiastically. “Of course, of course, I’ll make sure to invite you to a drink next time.”

What little warmth Megan felt chilled instantly due to his dismissive attitude.

She was utterly hopeless.

Waston swept her up in his arms, his lecherous demeanor drawing snickers from the onlookers.

It wasn’t until they reached the bedroom that he set her down.

As Waston eagerly began to unbutton his shirt, ready to indulge in his ‘feast’, Megan suddenly grabbed a lamp from the table and smashed it over his head.

Caught off guard, he was struck squarely, blood immediately oozing from his face, contorting his features into a sinister grimace. “You little bitch, you got a death wish?” he snarled.

Megan couldn’t afford to care about the consequences anymore. She dashed towards the hotel exit.

It was pouring outside, and she was instantly drenched.

Knowing she had to escape, but with the whole world seemingly a dead end, what could she do?

Just then, a car slowly pulled up in front of her, the window rolled down to reveal Lucian’s handsome face.

Seeing him, Megan recoiled in fear. But Lucian only sneered.

“How does it feel to escape? Did you ever think about how those people might punish you?” he taunted.

Biting back her fear, Megan refused to show any more weakness or plead for mercy.

As she turned to walk away, she saw a group of people running towards her.

Her face went deathly pale, and her body shook uncontrollably with fear.

She knew Waston had a reputation for cruelty.

Just as the two sides were about to converge, Lucian finally spoke up, “Get in.”

Megan stared at him, their eyes locking for a split second. Without thinking further, she got in, as she really didn’t want to be caught by those people.

Once she was in the car and saw the distance increasing between her and her pursuers, Megan finally managed to calm her racing heart.

“What do you want from me?” she asked, knowing well that Lucian’s help would come with strings attached.

“Simple,” he replied. “I want you out of the entertainment industry, for good. Don’t get involved in anything related to it ever again.”

Megan’s pupils dilated as she let out a bitter laugh. “I’m already a D-list celebrity, why can’t you just leave me alone? How am I supposed to pay back the debts I owe to Rose if I leave the industry?”

Before she could process everything, the car stopped. A pair of strong hands clamped around her throat, cutting off her breath. She struggled desperately, her face turning a ghastly shade of pale.

Lucian’s face looked demonic, terrifying. “Did I say you could mention her? You figure out your debts on your own, or I’ll make sure you wish you were dead.”

His icy threat felt like it could strangle her at any moment, plunging Megan into deeper despair.

She thought, if leaving was what it took, then so be it. She hadn’t fulfilled her mother’s wishes anyway. Tears of despair trickled from the corners of her eyes.

“Okay,” she whispered.

“Sorry, Ms. Campbell, without qualifications, we can’t make an exception for you. Please look elsewhere.”

“We’ve already filled the positions…”

“You don’t meet our requirements…”

Megan walked the streets, head hung low as if the whole world had abandoned her.

She had been jobless for three months now.

Lucian had compensated her with severance, and after speaking to Waston, they hadn’t troubled her much.

But she knew what Lucian wanted – it was all just a form of revenge. Why else would he pay her a substantial sum to leave the industry but offer no real help afterwards?

What good was knowing his motives when she was left destitute, without even a place to live, still having to pay for Rose’s medical bills every month?

Desperation drove her to take a job as a courier.

Being a courier was grueling and exhausting.

Her health was already poor, and the job had caused her to lose over 20 pounds in less than a month.

But debts had to be paid.

When she saw her sister again at the hospital, there was no change in her emotions. Even as Lucian looked at her with a curious eye, she seemed not to notice.

She left an envelope on the table, “I’ve brought the money for this month, I’ll be going now.”

She was still in her courier uniform, her face haggard.

She had another meal to deliver soon.

“Be at the Crescent Moon Hotel, room 107 tonight. Don’t make me wait,” came a low, seemingly mundane voice.

Megan’s body stiffened, and she managed a forced smile. “Aren’t we done?”

Lucian looked at her as if hearing a joke, his lips curling into a sardonic smile, his eyes devoid of any warmth. “It ends when I say it ends, understand?”

It took Megan a long time to respond, then she nodded. “I… understand.”

In the dead of night, the bed creaked with the motion of two bodies, the low moans echoing through the darkness.

“Rose, Rose…” the man’s voice was thick with agony.

Megan tried to cover her ears to block out the sounds, but the disparity in their physical strength was clear.

Tears streamed down her face uncontrollably.

It felt like an eternity before it finally ended.

The man sat up and lit a cigarette.

Megan headed to the bathroom to take a shower before dressing to leave.

“Remember who you are. As long as Rose doesn’t wake up, you’re nothing but a sinner, understand?”

Just as Megan reached the door, she stopped dead at his words. Without responding, she opened the door and stepped out.

In everyone’s eyes, she was a sinner, but was she truly guilty?

As Megan contemplated this, she shook her head, trying to hold back her tears.

Perhaps due to her distraction, she bumped into someone on her way back.

“I’m so sorry. I wasn’t looking. Are you okay?” Megan immediately apologized.

But when she recognized the person, she froze.

“Rose? Is that really you? What happened to you?” he asked.

Seeing James Lopez, Megan’s instinct was to flee.

She blurted out, “You’ve mistaken me for someone else.”

But James grabbed her arm firmly, making it impossible for her to break free.

Looking up into James’s eyes, she saw them shimmer with tears: “It’s been years, but I’d never forget your face. How could I possibly mistake you for someone else?”

Megan felt a lump in her throat, unable to speak.

“She’s right; you’ve got the wrong person. Rose is still in the hospital, unconscious, and this woman,” Lucian’s voice cut through the tense air, “is the one responsible for her condition.”

Lucian’s casual stride and unbuttoned shirt gave him a debonair look; yet his words stabbed Megan sharply, especially the last part that turned her even paler.

She faced James and whispered softly, “I’m not her. I’m her twin sister. Please, let me go.”

Still processing this new information, James held onto Megan’s arm without moving.

Unable to endure another mention of Rose or Lucian’s piercing gaze, Megan gathered all her strength and pulled away from James.

Before they could react, she was already running away.

[Do you think running away will solve anything, Megan? Just because you escape doesn’t mean it’s over. If I could turn you from a star into a nobody, I can make you pay a thousand times over for your actions. Just you wait.]

Later, at home, as Megan read this message on her phone, she felt as if all her energy had been drained.

She collapsed onto the floor, sobbing uncontrollably while tearing at her hair.

Suddenly, as if remembering something crucial, she staggered to the bedroom.

When she returned, the knife in her hand gleamed ominously under the light.

Expressionless, she started slashing at her arms, the blood dripping steadily onto the floor.

The red stains quickly spread, painting the floor a grim crimson...
