Our Love is Like a Dead Tree Blooming
Chapter 2
Everyone looked at me and the man.
He had tan skin with a handsome face.
However, judging from his shabby clothes and horsewhip, one could easily realize he was a coachman.
Everyone was whispering and laughing that the Crown Princess' younger sister fell in love with a coachman.
I grabbed his sleeve tightly, and the rough cloth scratched the tender flesh of my palm.
Instead of being frightened, he raised his eyebrows with self-composure and looked at my clumsy performance with an amusing expression.
Emma seemed satisfied with my embarrassment with a mean smile.
"My sister has made a choice. You are engaged to each other now," she said.
The crowd was shocked.
"Ms. Parker, I don't think I know you." The coachman frowned, seeming unhappy with this sudden arranged marriage.
"Let's talk about it when we get back!"
I looked at his strong nose and tightly pursed lips, feeling secretly reassured.
After all, he was the future new emperor in my foreboding dream.
It was the best chance for me!
Scarlett seemed so eager to confirm the fact that I was married to the coachman as soon as possible.
When she heard that his parents had all passed away, she immediately ordered the servants to decorate my courtyard and had us get married that night.
This wedding was like a joke. There was no wedding dress, no banquet, and no guests. My wedding couldn't even be compared to a mistress' dinner party.
I felt like crying sitting on my chair.
Including the life I had in my dream, my parents never doted on me, and even my wedding was so simple and crude that I didn't even have a wedding dress.
Suddenly, my eyes lit up. The expedient wedding veil was lifted by that coachman, and his handsome face was so close to me.
Noticing my red eyes, he said softly, "Tell me, why did you come to me?"
Instead of feeling sorry for myself, I started to figure out how to respond to his question. I couldn't say that he would be the king in the future, after all!
"I have no other choice. You are the only one who is not in my mother and sister's plot. If I don't choose you, my sister will give me to Prince Henry."
I pretended to be pitiful and lowered my neck. I knew I looked the most delicate and adorable in this posture.
"Don't worry, I will divorce you if you find a girl you like in the future." For fear that he would refuse, I made a promise.
Maybe it was because of the flickering lights, he seemed to be displeased.
"Luke Harris. That's my name." He sat casually at the table, pouring some coffee for himself and taking a sip.
The room was a bit stuffy.
"Please don't mind me. I want to take a walk." I made an excuse to run out of my room.
Feeling distressed, I strolled to an obsolete house of the Parker Manor and overheard someone talking inside.
"You failed to win me when you were alive, and your daughter can't be compared to mine as well! Just look how I will torture her to death!" Under the flickering light, Scarlett's face looked hideous and distorted, no longer as dignified as before.
I was shocked by this freaking news.
The confusion that had plagued me for so long that I didn't even figure out before my death in my previous life was now solved.
Her unfair treatment of me was because I was not her biological daughter.
Who was my mother? Whoever she was, her death must have something to do with Scarlett.
As I was too shocked to stand steadily, a robust hand supported me from behind.
Luke picked me up sideways and walked towards my room quietly.
On that quiet night, I nestled in his broad chest, tears falling down my face.
The love I pursued so eagerly from Scarlett was just a lie.
No wonder she ignored me and even cursed me since I was a child.
Luke gently put me on the bed and was about to get up.
I hugged his neck tightly. Being isolated for so many years, I really wanted someone to be with me at that moment.
"Don't worry, I won't leave. I just want to wash the handkerchief." He soothed my nerves with a soft voice.
After coming back, he carefully wiped the tears from my face with a handkerchief.
However, I seemed to want to vent all the grievances of what I had suffered and couldn't stop crying at all.
Luke was helpless and hesitated for a long time before hugging me and patting my back gently, as if to counsel and assure me. "It's all in the past. You will get better and better in the future."
I was tired of crying and gradually fell asleep in his arms.
The next day, when it was still dawn, Scarlett sent a servant to inform us that she would take us to enjoy the hot spring in the Silverpeak Mountain for a vacation.
On vacation?
The day after the banquet in my dream, she also took me there.
In the past, Scarlett would always take Emma to Silverpeak Mountain every year. When I was young, I also cried and wanted to go with them. However, she beat the nanny who took care of me to death for not teaching me to be a good lady.
She was the only one who cared about me since I was a child, but I witnessed her death.
I still remembered her eyes, which were wide open and bloody when she died.
Since then, what I hated the most was Silverpeak Mountain. I feel nauseous just by hearing about it.
Now, after so many years, Scarlett suddenly came up with an idea to take me there for vacation.
I knew it was an excuse for her to plot against me again.
I didn't expect that they would still refuse to give up even if I was married to an underprivileged coachman in their eyes.
In that case, I had to fight back by every means.
