Only One Day of Memory

I woke up on the couch in the early morning, my head still foggy.

Seraphina had risen early today. Hearing movement, she came over and leaned against the sofa, watching me.

"Alec, good morning."

"I'm Seraphina."

I sat dazed on the couch, watching as Seraphina approached and looked me in the eye. She said gently,

"You've forgotten me again, haven't you?"

As usual, she opened her phone and played a video of the two of us.

I looked up at her without speaking.

I watched as she led me to the dining table and handed me a hot cup of coffee.

The phone screen on the table was lit up, with a note that read "Alec must eat on time and love Seraphina".

Seraphina spoke softly, as if afraid of startling me.

"Don't be scared, just have your breakfast first."

"I'll explain everything to you in a bit."

I sat at the table, cradling the coffee mug and sipping slowly.

My mind was in complete chaos.

Before I could finish my coffee or open my mouth to speak, there was suddenly a knock at the door.

The knocking had a rhythm to it, coming in pairs.

Seraphina gripped her coffee mug, her gaze fixed heavily on the door.

The knocking continued.Seraphina fell silent for a moment, showing neither an intention to open the door nor to ignore it.

She seemed deep in thought as she withdrew her gaze and turned to meet my eyes.

"I'll go answer the door."

As I was about to get up, Seraphina held me back.

"I've got this. You keep eating."

Her tone was casual as she walked towards the door.

The door cracked open slightly, and I shifted my position to get a better view.

Behind the door, I saw a familiar face.

It was the drunk man from last night.

My hand holding the coffee trembled involuntarily as they exchanged some words I couldn't make out.

Seraphina abruptly slammed the door shut.

"Who was it?"

"No one," Seraphina calmly explained. "They got the wrong apartment."

I watched Seraphina's composed expression, my heart suddenly skipping a beat.

An indescribable feeling churned in my chest.

Actually, I hadn't had a chance to tell her yet.

I could remember everything that happened yesterday.
