On The Wedding Day, I Chose The Groom Again!

On the very day we were meant to register our marriage, my long-term fiancé abandoned me. That evening, another woman sent me a provocative photo showing him submissively peeling shrimp for her. He believed I would wait, completely unaware of the consequences of his betrayal. While he was busy catering to her every whim, I decided I was done playing second choice. Without his knowledge, I went ahead and registered my marriage to someone else entirely, leaving him behind forever.

Chapter 4

When I reached the door, Leo chased after me and grabbed me. "Nora, I know you're angry, you can hit me or scold me, just don't say it's over. We're about to get married."

I looked at him and chuckled, "So you know we're about to get married too? I thought you didn't. But it doesn't matter anymore. We're over, Leo."

I tried to shake off his tightly held hand, but it was no use. He looked at me earnestly, a slight frown creasing his forehead as if he were a bit impatient. “Nora, I didn’t stand you up on purpose yesterday. I really had something to deal with.”

Seeing his furrowed brows made me feel ridiculous after all these years. Leo and I had once shared a beautiful past, but he had gradually worn that away.

I no longer felt the gut-wrenching pain I had when I first discovered his affair. Now, I could accept it with a calmness that surprised me. I regretted the 18 years of my youth spent on him, realizing he wasn’t worth my sincerity.

For the past three months, I had given him chances, holding on to my mother’s words that I just needed to endure a little longer.

But what have I got? Photos of him with someone else.

Leo still held my hand tightly. A breeze brushed against my cheeks, lifting the stray hairs around my ears.

I blinked, thinking I had suppressed my emotions, but a hint of bitterness resurfaced. I pulled out my phone and showed Leo the photos I had received yesterday. My voice was soft as if I had truly let him go. “Leo, let’s end it here. Let's break up peacefully. Is that okay?”

When he saw the photos, Leo froze for a moment, his grip on my hand visibly loosening. Seizing the chance, I pulled away and took back my phone.

“I can explain, Nora.” The impatience in his tone had vanished, replaced by a hint of nervousness as he faced the prospect of losing me.

He raised his hand to touch me, but I dodged and replied sarcastically, “Explain what? How did you end up with her? Or explain, who is the girl you keep mentioning?”

“I…” Leo stammered, looking at me in silence, unable to find the words.

Years ago, he had tattooed the letter N on his wrist. He knew I didn’t like tattoos, so he always hid it from me.

At that time, I only thought that Leo was hiding it from me because he was afraid of making me angry. Now, looking back, maybe the tattoo was not for me, but for Nina.

Even though I knew about his betrayal three months ago, recalling the details now still makes my heart ache.

I stopped looking at him.

Someone once told me that not all relationships end happily. Back then, I believed it, but I thought Leo and I would be the exception. Reality, however, delivered a harsh blow.

The person who once cared for me could easily turn his affections to someone else.

While discussing recent movies with me, he would book tickets to see them with someone else just moments later.

He could love me and someone else at the same time.

I blinked back tears that threatened to spill over. Just then, my phone chimed with a notification. I glanced at the message, then turned to leave.

Maybe I should have ended things with Leo a long time ago. When I found out he was engaged to me but still cheated, I should have confronted him and made a scene.

As I turned to walk away, he grabbed my arm. "Nora, I promise I won’t contact her again. Please don’t be angry. Forgive me this time."

His words sounded sincere, but they didn’t move me at all. If it had been three months ago, I might have been swayed.

But now, I had cut off all my options, and nothing he said would take us back to what we once had. "Leo, I've given you a chance, but you’ve never given me anything in return."

He tightened his grip on my arm. "Nora! You're 28 now. We've known each other for 18 years. Who else would want you? Do you really think the Sanders family is the same as it used to be? Without my help, how long can the Sanders family survive?"
