Chapter 4

Tabitha's POV

Luckily, the contract for that project hadn’t been signed yet, so there was still time to fix everything.

As for my family’s company, I’ve never been interested in our traditional industries. Besides, my work didn't allow me to be tangled up with them anyway. My cousin was a genius in business, so letting him take over was perfect. I could just sit back and collect dividends, enjoying my life.

But where on earth did Terence hear that I’d been kicked out of our estate?

I glanced at him, amused. I knew his father had plenty of illegitimate children, so he probably assumed all wealthy families were as messy as his own.

When I looked back at him, my eyes were full of contempt. “I will never marry you. Now, get out of the way or don’t blame me for what happens next.”

Terence gave a cold laugh. “Move aside for you? Don’t forget, this is Highland. You dare order us around? You really don’t know what you’re getting yourself into.”

The funeral director at my side urged me again, “Miss Sherman, we’re running out of time! We have to move quickly!”

My voice was ice-cold as I instructed, “Smash every one of their worthless cars. Let’s see if they still block us.”

Even so, Jacqueline and Terence stayed calm, confident that their luxury cars were too expensive for anyone in a funeral procession to dare touch.

But they were wrong.

Most of the people in this procession were my family’s long-time retainers, loyal to the bone. Since these two had blocked my father’s hearse and insulted me over and over, my people had been itching to act, just waiting for my order.

In our family, we had rules not to strike civilians nor threaten the safety of public property. But these cars were just entry-level Rolls-Royces and not even worth as much as the interest on the money my father once lent the Tomlinsons.

One by one, I watched as my people smashed all ten-plus cars to pieces. Terence and Jacqueline were stunned into silence.

When they finally snapped out of it, Terence exploded with rage. “Tabitha! Pay me back! These cars are worth fifteen million! If you don’t, I’ll make sure you get buried with your father today!”

I gave him a mocking smile. “Fifteen million? For a few entry-level junkers? Have you lost your mind?”

Like a mad dog, he barked, his voice dripping with fury, “Enough! This is Highland. My word is law here. When I say fifteen million, you pay fifteen million! Now hand it over!”

Just then, my phone rang. It was one of the officials waiting at the cemetery.

“Tabitha? Where are you? Are you almost here?”

I glanced at Terence before answering, “Someone blocked the road. They won’t let my father’s hearse pass. He’s demanding fifteen million from me, and he says if I don’t pay, he’ll have me buried alongside my father today.”

The official’s voice shot up. “What?! Is public security in Highland really this bad to have such vicious criminals openly threatening mourners?”

Before I could respond, Terence snatched the phone. “Oh, cut it out, Tabitha. Stop pretending. You’re nothing but a stray dog now. Who’s going to save you? Boys, smash the old man’s hearse!”

The moment the official heard that, he went eerily calm. “Fifteen million? Fine. I’ll have someone bring it right away. You’re a good comrade. Stay where you are, and don’t do anything rash.”

The call ended, and five minutes later, the roar of helicopter blades filled the air.

Three military choppers swept in overhead.

Jacqueline pointed up and laughed. “Terence, look! Helicopters! You think they’re actually going to land here?”

The next second, the doors slid open and ladders dropped down.

Armed soldiers descended one by one, weapons raised, barrels pointed directly at Jacqueline and Terence.
