"What?"

Lily suddenly stood up and said with a frown, "Kendall Powell, are you done? How dare you threaten me with divorce?"

Kellan scolded me, saying, "It's not a big deal. Why are you being so inflexible?"

Smiling more and more happily, he looked at me like I was a clown.

I wanted to punch his face hard.

Lily and Kellan had known each other since childhood. From high school to university, they were both the campus belle and the campus princess, as close as a couple.

Everyone deemed them a perfect match.

Later, for the sake of his future, Kellan left Lily and went abroad. At that time, I met Lily and fell in love with her.

But Lily kept in touch with Kellan.

Lily swore to me that she would only treat Kellan as her best friend and she had no other thoughts.

I was too silly and naive. From my perspective, loving her meant that I had to spoil her and firmly believe her.

But true love entailed mutual trust.

Lily failed.

After Kellan returned home, she made an appointment to watch a movie with him. They hung out in various bars and clubs and even posted photos showing how intimate they were on her Facebook account.

Nine days out of ten, she returned home early in the morning.

For other days, she was nowhere to be seen.

I handled many of the company's affairs while taking care of Nancy.

Nancy asked me, "Why does Mom always like to be with Kellan? Doesn't she like to go home?"

Fearing that it would affect Nancy's mind, I had to cover for Lily.

I had a few arguments with Lily.

She thought that I was being too nosy and overthinking things.

I asked her to set up a good example for Nancy as a mother.

Per her, there was no need for Nancy to know anything at such a young age.

Before I could say something else, she got impatient, saying, "If you don't want to be with me, let's get divorced." Then she slammed the door and left.

At that time, I loved Lily so much that I felt I couldn't live without her.

I didn't want my family to fall apart. I didn't want Nancy to be said to be from a single-parent family.

So I compromised.

Now that upon recalling, I was indeed stupid. I thought that I could make her treat me sincerely by putting up with her.

I took a deep breath, strode forward, and slapped Kellan hard in front of Lily. Growling, I said, "This is my home. Get out!"

Kellan fell from his chair. He was shocked at first before looking cunning.

"Lily, look at how barbaric he is. My face is swollen."

He pretended to be wronged to gain sympathy from Lily, which was his commonly used trick.

Just like before.

Lily flew into a rage on the spot. She pounded the table and shouted, "Kendall, are you crazy? How dare you hit Kellan."

"Since you want a divorce, let's divorce. I am not afraid!"

"The custody of Nancy is mine!"

She had scolded me because of Kellan a lot of times.

I had long been used to it.

"How dare you mention Nancy? Do you really think you are qualified to be Nancy's mother?"

I questioned her.

"Why not? Nancy usually says that she likes me."

Lily raised her chin and ordered the bodyguard not far away, saying, "Is Nancy in the car? Call her down and see who she chooses to follow."

I sneered.

"Nancy said that all because I taught her. I hoped that by doing so, Lily could remember that she was a mother and thus had a sense of responsibility for the family."

The bodyguards looked at each other, wondering how to answer. They could only look at me in unison.

"It must be Kendall that hid Nancy."

Kellan took the opportunity to add fuel to the fire.

"I thought you would be more reasonable if you suffered a little, but I didn't expect you to go even further. How dared you use Nancy as a bargaining chip to threaten me! You're too despicable!"

Lily scolded me bitterly.

"I didn't hide Nancy. She's right in front of you."

I choked with sobs.

"Nonsense. If so, how come I can't see her, a grown-up kid? Do you think I'm a fool? I think you're crazy!"

Glaring at me, she was sure that I was messing around.

"Nancy's ashes are in my hands."

"Are you satisfied now?"
