Never Seeing You Again in My Life
Chapter 2
Two screams pierced the air. The first was Ruby's sharp cry.
The second was my own agonizing shout.
I fell to the ground, clutching my stomach.
Issac actually hit me!
A wave of pain surged through my lower abdomen, sending shivers throughout my body.
He wrapped his arms around Ruby, whispering words of comfort. Then he turned to me, his voice cold.
"Are you done making a scene?"
"Keira, my patience has its limits."
His indifferent words struck deep into my heart, causing a sharp pain inside me.
I wanted to say something, but the agony left me speechless.
"Blood, there's blood!"
The onlookers shouted in panic.
Blood? My baby!
I heard my own shriek.
"My baby!"
I felt a warm flow escape beneath me.
I couldn't care about anything else; I just clung tightly to Issac's pant leg.
But he coldly shook off my hand.
"Stop with your tricks."
"Keira, are you really going to play games like this? I'm truly disappointed."
I stared at him, unable to make a sound.
It was as if I was seeing him for the first time.
A bitter smile crossed my lips, and then everything faded to black.
When I opened my eyes again, all I saw was white, and the smell of antiseptic filled my nose.
My baby, where is my baby? I thought.
I trembled as I reached for my flat stomach.
"Keira, you...you're awake?"
A hoarse voice broke through my thoughts.
I turned my stiff head and looked over.
It's Issac.
He avoided my gaze, his voice rough.
"I'm sorry... Keira, we lost our baby."
I lost my baby?
The panic inside me was confirmed, yet I felt an unsettling calm wash over me.
With a father like him, even if the child had been born, it would never be happy.
I was so composed that it surprised Issac.
"Keira, that's our baby, how can you be like this?"
"You don't feel anything? Haven't you ever thought about giving birth to it?"
"Enough!" I shouted.
I couldn't bear Issac repeatedly shifting the blame onto me.
I pushed him to the ground.
At that moment, a woman's voice rang out from the doorway.
Ruby rushed over in her high heels, standing in front of Issac.
"Keira, how could you do this?"
"Your baby is gone, and Issac is heartbroken too. Why are you taking your anger out on him?"
"Am I throwing a tantrum? Ruby Vaughn, this has nothing to do with you. Just stick to being the angelic bitch you've always been!"
My words shattered her composure.
"Keira, how can you say that?"
"You didn't even tell Issac you were pregnant! If he had known, he definitely wouldn't have pushed you away! This is all on you, do you understand?"
Hearing this, Issac seemed to find his justification.
He straightened up and embraced Ruby.
"Ruby is right. Why didn't you tell me you were pregnant? Or were you planning all along to use this baby to make me feel guilty?"
I was stunned, my mouth agape at their brutal exchange.
But he looked at me as if he had figured everything out.
"Keira, how can you be so cruel? If you have grievances against me, you can voice them. But to use your own baby as a weapon? You truly are a wicked woman."
He seemed furious, holding Ruby tightly as they walked out. Before leaving, he threw one last remark over his shoulder: "You really don't deserve to be a mother."
I couldn't understand how he had turned into this.
The memory of the boy who used to shyly smile at me was fading, as if he had never existed...
After they left, I ignored the doctor's pleas and packed my things to leave the hospital.
I sent Issac a breakup text and blocked all his contacts. Once I gathered my things, I never returned to the home we once shared.
I met Issac in college.
At that time, we were both members of the same club, and the president of the club was my pursuer.
After I repeatedly turned him down, he got angry and even tried to drug me to force himself on me.
"Keira, how do you, an orphan, expect to survive in this big city? If you stick with me, at least you'll have a place to stay," he sneered at me.
My rationality was slowly eroded by the drug.
I thought my life was about to be ruined right there.
Then something dramatic happened.
Just like in many TV dramas, Issac smashed open the locked door of the club.
Faced with my dazed murmurs, he didn't take advantage of the situation. Instead, he took me to the hospital and stayed by my side until I woke up.
After that, it was only natural that we ended up together.
He was a wealthy heir in this city, and I thought his family would look down on someone like me.
But they didn't. He would take me home and always considered my feelings in front of his parents.
And his parents also embraced me.
When did things start to change?
We were happy together for two years after graduating from college.
Then Ruby came back.
Once she was back, everything seemed to change.
Issac's parents became distant, no longer warm and friendly towards me.
And Issac-my boyfriend was also called away at any moment by just a phone call from her.
I remember clearly that one time when Issac and I were in a passionate moment, just about to take things further, Issac called.
He received the call and quickly got up, pulled up his pants, and left without knowing what was said on the phone.
There was not even a single explanation.
"Ms. Langley?"
The voice of a client pulled me back to reality.
I had zoned out during work, which was completely unacceptable.
"I'm sorry, please continue."
I was the sales director at a company.
I had interned there during college and eventually worked my way up to the director position.
Issac had always wanted me to work at his company.
But I felt embarrassed and never agreed.
Until then, I felt grateful for that choice.
Otherwise, I would have nothing.
"Ms. Langley."
The new intern Joe approached me with a worried expression.
I glanced apologetically at the client I had interrupted.
"There's a notice from above that the boss from our partner company is coming at twelve-thirty. They want you to welcome him."
Twelve thirty?
I looked at the clock.
It's already eleven o'clock now. There was still an hour and a half.
I felt very sorry for the client.
"Miss Roan, I'm truly sorry. Please, let me..."
She waved her hand, understanding. "It's fine, it's fine. I understand that work comes first."
"You go ahead and busy yourself."
I nodded and quickly left the reception room.
"Why is it so sudden?" I asked.
Usually, for such an important visit, we would prepare at least a day in advance.
But this was too abrupt; I didn't even know which company it was.
Joe looked miserable. "I don't know either. It's an order from above. I just saw it and rushed to tell you."
I took the documents he handed me.
"The Lewis Group..."
I froze when I saw the name on the document.
