Chapter 6

Eddie's POV

During that period, Stephanie's body was still in the process of recovering, yet I was determined that she use birth control. She declined. For a whole month, she dodged me and refused to communicate.

"The mother's health affects the fetus," the doctor had told her himself.

But now, here we were.

Stephanie had utterly forgotten about all of that.

I looked at her, then lowered my gaze and slid the divorce agreement across the table toward her.

"Sign it."

Stephanie studied me for a moment, her expression shifting as she realized I was serious.

It didn't take long for her anger to flare up.

"These are just small matters. We can resolve them calmly. There's no need for this..." Stephanie trailed off, trying to soften the blow.

"It is necessary," I interrupted her firmly.

Humiliated and angry, her words came faster, sharper.

"Where will you go after the divorce? The Hayes family's house is already occupied. Even if you don't care about yourself, what about Thea? Do you think someone as broke as you can just take her with you?"

She paused for a moment, as if thinking it over, then the tone in her voice softened just a bit.

"Or are you willing to give up Thea's future right to inherit the company just to divorce me and take her with you?"

Her words stung. It wasn't just about the money, but the weight of what she was willing to do to hold on to everything.

Our argument caught the attention of several people, and Stephanie's mother quickly pulled us into the hospital room.

I didn't care about the onlookers; all I wanted was to get the divorce over with.

"Yes."

A single word, but it made Stephanie's face turn instantly cold. Her neck bulged with veins from anger and frustration.

"Fine," she snapped, her voice cutting through the air. "Keep causing trouble!"

She picked up the phone quickly, called her lawyer, and began drafting a new divorce agreement. Within minutes, she signed it.

Relieved, I signed it too, quickly folded the papers, and walked out of the room, my movements urgent.

As I rushed down the hallway, I didn't hear her hoarse voice behind me.

"If you regret it, I'll be discharged in a few days, and we can talk it over then."

Seeing my hurried yet relieved steps, those around me couldn't help but feel a heavy silence in the air.

Stephanie suddenly thought of her daughter, whom she hadn't seen in over half a month, and a sharp pain struck her chest.

She stood unsteadily and staggered out of the room.
