Chapter 5

That was how she was repeatedly rubbing salt in my wounds.

I became more and more indifferent towards her.

Until now, my mother was in her eternal sleep, and I felt that it didn't matter much if Hazel was not around.

I no longer paid attention to her and focused on handling the affairs of my mom.

Hazel didn't call me again until the day of the funeral.

Because I hadn't gone home for days, Hazel called me. "Eugene, what are you doing? I'm not even angry, but you are? Don't you want your job or your family now?"

"I only have one home!" I answered the phone coldly and then hung up.

The only place I identified with was my rural hometown.

As for the house in the city, it had long made me feel disheartened and numb.

And my mother's death had made me completely understand some things.

Since Hazel asked me to understand her, I would fulfill her!

Because there were many customs in the countryside regarding these matters, I immediately felt overwhelmed and short-handed.

The relatives in the village asked, "Gene, where are your wife and son? It's already the third day, why haven't they shown up yet?"

Faced with this question, my heart was once again pierced with pain.

Is she still my wife?

She can ignore the matters at home.

But when Terry calls her, she does go to him immediately.

As a normal man, I cannot tolerate this matter and have long been fed up with it.

What was more, my mother's departure also made me completely sober.

She is no longer my wife.

She may already be someone else's wife.

She is not worthy of being the daughter-in-law of our Hill family!

Of course, I could only handle these things coldly. I looked at the relatives and shook my head. "Maybe she is no longer my wife, we are getting divorced soon."

"This..."

They were very surprised.

In the eyes of the people in the village, I was very happy.

After all, when my family was poor, I had a girlfriend from a wealthy family and got married.

I also relied on Hazel to establish myself in the city.

I still remembered the first time Hazel came to my house. She drove a Mercedes, attracting the attention of many people. My mother also laughed happily.

But now, times had changed, and things were no longer the same as they were in the past. Everything had already undergone a qualitative change and would never return to what it was before.

In the surprised eyes of everyone, I felt that their eyes were a bit strange.

I also seemed to feel a gaze behind me, staring at me tightly.

I turned around and looked back.

It was Hazel with my son. The two of them appeared silently behind me...
