My Story No Longer Includes You
Chapter 2
Sylvie took a hot shower and had a good night's sleep. In her dream, she saw her parents. They had already prepared a feast for her and were all smiles as they waited for her to come home. She also dreamed of Damian Pierwyn, her childhood sweetheart, gently pulling her into his embrace.
She was dreaming away happily when she was woken up by the notifications coming from a chat group.
"Goodness me! Anna listed Sylvie up on eBay for 99 dollars per round! That's hilarious."
"99 dollars? That's too much! A doormat like Sylvie is only worth 9.90 dollars at best."
"Sylvie never would've gotten a chance if Anna hadn't gone abroad to study a few years ago. Just wait. Connor is going to divorce her soon enough. I bet it'll happen in three months."
"I say a month!"
"I say two weeks!"
"Dude, this is the wrong group. Sylvie's in this one."
Immediately, the chat group went silent. Soon afterward, Sylvie got a call from Connor.
"You haven't read those messages from the chat group yet, right, Sylvie?"
"Oh. I have," Sylvie calmly replied, as if she weren't the one being humiliated.
After a pause, Connor said, "Annie didn't do it on purpose. I've punished her for it."
Connor seemed certain Sylvie wouldn't kick up a fuss, and he was right. She didn't. She wasn't even angered. All she did was ask, "How did you punish Anna?"
"She'll have to skip a meal," Connor answered.
Sylvie said nothing.
Noting her silence, Connor lowered his voice and said, "From the very first day we got married, I told you that Anna is the only one I love. You're the one who insisted on casting aside all your dignity to cling to me."
After hearing the same thing for seven years, Sylvie already had his speech memorized by heart. She was just about to end the call when she heard riotous laughter coming from his end.
"I told you, Connor. That doormat Sylvie wouldn't dare say a word about it."
"It's already rather generous to sell a shameless woman like her for 99 dollars."
Connor's buddies were mocking her yet again. She had grown used to such treatment over the years.
"Shut up," Connor snapped angrily.
For a brief moment, Sylvie thought he was standing up for her. However, he immediately continued, "Annie's here. Don't say such nonsense in her presence."
Sylvie ended the call in silence.
Connor didn't return that night. Instead, Anna posted another update on social media.
"Thanks to that special someone who took time out of his busy schedule to celebrate my birthday with me. I feel so blessed."
She shared a video that showed Connor accompanying her while she made her birthday wish. After blowing out the candle, she kissed him on the cheek.
Their friends all left comments.
"Oh, my. Connor is such an innocent man! He turned red from a single kiss."
"Excuse you! Connor is a religious man who believes in celibacy. He's not a playboy like you."
"If I'm not mistaken, it's Sylvie's birthday today, right? I guess that lovesick doormat is probably crying her eyes out at home. I bet she doesn't even have any appetite right now."
Sylvie, who was munching away on a drumstick, snorted when she saw that comment. There was no way she'd cry over a bastard like Connor.
…
Sylvie was the type to get over things quickly. The next morning, in a bid to finish her mission as soon as possible, she couldn't wait to text Connor, asking, "Are we doing it tonight?"
"Are you that much of a shameless woman?" Connor replied within seconds.
Sylvie waited for a few minutes. She could see that he was typing a message. Eventually, she got a response.
"Wash up and wait for me."
Sylvie smirked. After just two more times, she could leave Connor at last. Thrilled at the thought of finally reuniting with Damian, she wanted to celebrate by opening a bottle of red wine.
However, the moment she stood up, she felt a wave of nausea hit her. Clutching the table for support, she began dry heaving.
All of a sudden, Anna entered the house. The moment she saw Sylvie heaving, her expression darkened at once.
"Sylvie Waverly! Are you pregnant?"
Before Sylvie could wrap her head around the situation, Anna's bodyguards were already restraining her.
"Connor has never slept with you, so who did you sleep with to get pregnant? I can't believe you're really such a slut!"
Grabbing Sylvie's jaw in fury, Anna stuffed a handful of abortion pills down Sylvie's throat. Soon after the bitter pills went down her esophagus, Sylvie felt an intense pain coming from her abdomen.
"I-It hurts."
However, Anna wasn't going to let Sylvie off so easily. She slapped Sylvie twice, screaming, "You deserve to be in agony! You're nothing more than a stupid doormat hanging around Connor all the time. What gives you the right to marry him?"
Sylvie felt as though her abdomen was being squeezed and wrung out like a piece of laundry. She broke out in a cold sweat. Using all the strength she could muster, she shouted, "Help… Save me…"
But at the very next moment, Anna grabbed Sylvie by the throat, making it impossible for her to scream.
"How dare you call for help? Die, you bitch!"
Just before Sylvie lost consciousness, she thought she saw Connor dashing in.
